- This short clip was made in Female Ward 9 & 10 (previously known 4 & 5 before 1961) within the Callan Park Kirkbride Block, designed in 1877
by James Barnet, Colonial Architect, in collaboration with Frederick Norton Manning, Inspector of the Insane.
Construction of the asylum began in 1880 and was completed in 1885, with patients being moved into buildings as they became ready from 1884. The hospital took only three years to become overcrowded.
By the 1980s, half of the Kirkbride block was either vacant or under-utilised, then 1991, a new rehabilitation complex was built on the grounds which led to led to the phasing out of the Kirkbride Block for psychiatric care.
In 1992, the Kirkbride Block was leased to Sydney College of the Arts, although the buildings depicted in the video were never occupied by SCA and remain mostly in their original condition from the time of closure. - Фільми й анімація
Terrible decay. I worked there 1970-72. Loved it.
I have been there as a patient . i seen crazy stuff there.
What did you see? I was unfortunately there as a patient as well and experienced a terrifying experience.
