I love this. He's not trying to make the ultimate space suit, he's trying to put the technology into ordinary hands for all to use and expand upon. We need more stuff like this!
At first I thought "what a waste of time" but after watching the video I love it. Putting it online like an 'open source space suit' is such a great idea. I really hope a community forms around it which work together to develop these suits.
Yaaaa Cameron!! My archaeology professor! Can't tell you how many times he and I would sit in his office and talk for hours about archaeology and space exploration. Truly a hero of mine.
Don't forget Ryan Nagata, he's the one who makes super high detail replica Apollo suits. A combination of his suits and Cameron's tech would be so cool
It’s exactly this kind of spirit, passion, drive, dedication and love that put us on the Moon and will one day land is on Mars. I applaud you my good man.
I know it's necessary, to protect everyone else as well as yourself, but it really saddens me when people are forever barred from certain careers because of something out of their control, in this guy's case his eyesight. It's the finality of it that gets me, and the never knowing what might've been. *Sigh*...
Weapon of mass construction laser eye surgery has come a long way and so people like him now can be pilots even with less than perfect vision. Tho in his days it was an unfortunate reality that he could not have flown.
It is not called a space suit it is a pressure suit. A space suit is made for EVA operation, a pressure suit to help the crew survive in case of a cabin leak. No astronaute would use a pressure suit in space. It like confusing a scuba diver with a submarine
As a scuba diver and space enthusiast, somehow I’m missing your comparison in the comment “It like confusing a scuba diver with a submarine.” There’s no comparison between a scuba diver and a submarine. Scuba divers (especially solo) wear a lot of equipment to make a scuba dive. I typically wear a drysuit, custom duel tank rig with emergency pony bottle, full face mask, and backups for everything. When I’m on a submarine such equipment isn’t necessary. But when scuba diving, it doesn’t matter if the water is 10 feet or 1000 feet deep…the same equipment is still required. How does that possibly compare to the differences between a pressure suit and a space suit?
@@mudman6156 because EVA suite is a pressurised environment with its own power supply and life support hardware to perform extended operations in any space condition. Its is closer to a mini spacecraft. It like comparing scuba diving with rigid deep articulated diving suits if you like. They can operate the same at any rated depth like a mini submarine. A pressure suit only helps you breath and dont die because of lost of cabine pressure. They inflate in case of depressurization and are then hard to use.
"No astronaut would use a pressure suit", that's just wrong. A space suit is not exclusively made for EVA since NASA also made an intravehicular pressure suits for example. Every pressure suit has its own closed environment ("atmosphere") and is part of/incorporates its own life support system. How do you think does a space suit maintain constant internal pressure if not using a pressure bladder?
@@romanglinnik8073 you seem to have trouble with logic. In space there is vacuum, but vacuum is not space. A space suit is pressurized, all pressure suits are not rated for space. There is a huge gap in technology between something that is made to survive and something made to operate. I would bu curious how he can still move his arms once in a 10 PSI athmosphere.
I think it’s so cute how he’s always had this dream of becoming an astronaut , and even thought is isn’t one he has fun making these Suites and exploring new things
"i hope that people will then make improvements on it"! ten years worth of work and he wants to put it online. unselfish, sincere effort to help better the space suit
I'm impressed at how the suit manages to look so freaking awesome while also being totally functional. Except for the helmet. It looks so out of place as the only ugly part of an awesome looking piece of functional equipment
As much as this gentleman enthusiasm is admirable but in the technical department he is missing a few layers as radiation protection and sensors monitoring, also he never mentioned the need for diapers for some reason.
I was just curious. Did you ever determine how to make the coupling of the glove with the rest of space suit? And the bearing with the inner and outer race for the glove? Who was the manufacturer of it? I'm currently doing research on a spacesuit myself
I love your project, and even more because it's opensource. You're really trying to improve something, though I doubt it will have much effect on new possible spacesuit designs by NASA, SpaceX etc.
awesomeguy2802 radiation shielding is probably the last of his worries considering NASA doesn't even incorporate radiation shielding into anything other than the mars suit. Radiation is only a problem if you are outside of the magnetic field or if you spend a prolonged amount of time in the radiation belts.
I was thinking, Erm,... don't you think you are taking this a little too far?... Now I'm thinking, Dude,... if you actually get this going and online, I can guarantee within 10-Years It'll look totally different and probably really fucking Awesome,... All the best of Luck to you.
The air we breath is ~80% nitrogen and ~20% oxygen. Too much oxygen would make you pass out. This is what hyper-ventilation is- putting significantly more oxygen into your blood stream.
Miki Nagazu why are you getting butthurt? I aint even hating, im just saying that he can give that suit a try in outer space when our technology allows him to do so.
I love this. He's not trying to make the ultimate space suit, he's trying to put the technology into ordinary hands for all to use and expand upon. We need more stuff like this!
Well said.
#righttorepair
We might need a lot more people doing this. Happy Holidays and New Year!
At first I thought "what a waste of time" but after watching the video I love it. Putting it online like an 'open source space suit' is such a great idea. I really hope a community forms around it which work together to develop these suits.
suit*
and suite is pronounced like "sweet"
Mignefjollist LXIX oh yeah I forgot that. Thanks :)
yw, I'm usually not hard on grammar but when you use the wrong word entirely I felt the need to point it out.
I'm all in!
PNathan I totally agree.
“None of them were killed... directly, from this” lol
That stuck out to me as well...
Interesting
Assassination?..
That is right
Yaaaa Cameron!! My archaeology professor! Can't tell you how many times he and I would sit in his office and talk for hours about archaeology and space exploration. Truly a hero of mine.
You should get in contact with Tom Sachs or Adam Savage.
:)
Well Sachs makes "space" things as a joke/theater, and Savage makes nice looking movie replica suits.
It's not really the same thing.
Don't forget Ryan Nagata, he's the one who makes super high detail replica Apollo suits. A combination of his suits and Cameron's tech would be so cool
Full respect to you and your colleges. This type of self driven innovation is what pushes our species forward. Don't stop what you're doing. Fly safe!
It’s exactly this kind of spirit, passion, drive, dedication and love that put us on the Moon and will one day land is on Mars. I applaud you my good man.
thanks, bud!
This guy is like a first generation Belter.
Oye! Beltalowda To pensa like Tumang sabaka? Nating like Tumang!

Can I just say that your username is awesome?
I see that Weyland Yutani patch!!! Only true film fans will understand
Aliens
I frckn LOVE this guy. Live long and prosper dude. This is the spirit of human collaboration we need so desperatly.
"None were killed by this... directly"
Hol up you aint gonna say that and not explain wtf you mean
M. de k. Oh yeah I figured thats what he meant. It just sounds really off lol
*L m a o*
he mean they got hit by a car after they took off the suit
His thesis is no joke. I like the way he explained from past to present and in hopes the future. Imagine if this was funded or if he was helped.
remarkable, i love it, love the spirit, great effort ...keep on the good job man :)
What in incredible attitude, this is how engineering and science reaches the highest goals. Collaboration and humble dedication.

This guy is very proud of his “pickup truck” reference haha
I totally get the whole-- " I wanna have money so that I can spend it on cool projects" concept...
Awesome dude. This attitude of inventiveness and cooperation is what its all about.
4:05 the most accurate words ever spoken... Ford
That is honestly one of the coolest things I’ve seen 👏🏼
I respect this man for following his dreams
That's awesome. You don't see too many people like that anymore that have this true ingenuitive personality and advancement for human kind.
I think it’s so cute how he’s always had this dream of becoming an astronaut , and even thought is isn’t one he has fun making these Suites and exploring new things
#OpenFREAKINGSource!!!
Most space suits are made in Dover, Delaware.
Thank you for posting this story!
this is inspiring i want to make my own suit, a while ago i made a Mars Spacesuit Helmet (prop) i think it looks good.
For Sale- One lightly used lunar lander. Only 477,710 miles. Some burn damage to the paint, timing belt needs replaced. Ask for Stan
"i hope that people will then make improvements on it"! ten years worth of work and he wants to put it online. unselfish, sincere effort to help better the space suit

It is based off the Apollo moon helmets. Those had an inner soft part and an outer shell, his is the inner soft part
They made a Belter Spacesuite from The Expanse
Liam Knight awesome show!
Yeah. It kinda looks like one...
Im so excited fir season 3 tomorrow!!!!
Have space suit; will travel.
This guy is a source of inspiration!
So how exactly is this suit protecting you from radiation?
MLG_420_Dorito what about the pressure in space? Wouldnt it completely crush you or hurt u
MLG_420_Dorito Well that's one, also in space there's nothing not even pressure, so you need a protecting layer, so you don't die
uhh, paper stops a tiny percentage of the electromagnetic radiation from the sun...
Zinogg Yes I watched the whole video I was just curious.
There is no pressure in space. It's a vacuum.
What an absolute unit
Badass, 'nuff said. Also he's a fellow Oregonian! Woo!
Love the Weyland-Yutani Patch on the suit :)
no way, he started this 4 days before my first birthday!!
As much as this gentleman enthusiasm is admirable but in the technical department he is missing a few layers as radiation protection and sensors monitoring, also he never mentioned the need for diapers for some reason.
You should make it open source now so it could be an on going process.
Just shows you whereever you are or whatever you do you can still earn your dreams
This is a diving suit not a spacesuit. I’m serious.
I was just curious. Did you ever determine how to make the coupling of the glove with the rest of space suit? And the bearing with the inner and outer race for the glove? Who was the manufacturer of it? I'm currently doing research on a spacesuit myself
The bearing is the hardest thing. Just buy some russian Sokol glove bearings or so. Or just don't have them. Building them is nearly impossible.
If this person is properly trained he could be an astronaut
I love your project, and even more because it's opensource. You're really trying to improve something, though I doubt it will have much effect on new possible spacesuit designs by NASA, SpaceX etc.
where is the link to the files?
Hold my beer I'm going to space bois
He should make a suit for going to the bottom of the ocean. We need to explore that too.
So cool. Love the ingenuity
This is heart warming
God bless this man... Inspirational
That Weyland-Yutani patch killed me though lmao!!!!!
At first I thought this guy was wasting his time but a any one can fix it space suit is a good idea
The Video you are gonna need in space
A true engineer
That library though!
Just in case you wake up and the earth is gone.
Benjamin Drinkwater agents of shield season 5 lol
Claustrophobia... couldn't breathe watching him put this suit on!
Congrats and godspeed for yor future flight!
Did he mention radiation shielding at all?
awesomeguy2802 radiation shielding is probably the last of his worries considering NASA doesn't even incorporate radiation shielding into anything other than the mars suit. Radiation is only a problem if you are outside of the magnetic field or if you spend a prolonged amount of time in the radiation belts.
I imagine this is what the first Belters of The Expanse novels / tv show used :)
I like this.He seems like a cool dude.
This is like a great big story video
God bless ppl like this,
He is Trying to Set a Foundation and To help get a Start if anyone is interested
and is willing to make it All free to Access
Where is the site? Where will the source be published? :D I love this idea :D
I've made one from cardboard and tape. They are coming to collect me soon on the mother hip.
He started building this when I was born lol
This space suit shall be the beginner's space suit to be bought in Star Citizen!
Someone send this video to Adam Savage
This guy WILDLY underestimates the electric instalation of a pickup truck.
One word, impressive!
you can test it on earth by pumping it up to 1 atmosphere (15psi)
get this man a job at NASA he fucking deserves it!
Thats so cool! Live for your dreams! Rock on dude👍
2:12 I want this 😎
D.I.Y Mission Specialist and Moon Walker
this is like a usable tom sachs gallery
Can we contact him?
aright its been a few months are there any updates?
This guy is amazing!
0:40 look in the left side, is the moon landing fake?
Neil? Is that you?
Amazing video, by the way!
I wish this dude had better eye vision so he could follow his dreams
I was thinking, Erm,... don't you think you are taking this a little too far?... Now I'm thinking, Dude,... if you actually get this going and online, I can guarantee within 10-Years It'll look totally different and probably really fucking Awesome,... All the best of Luck to you.
good for him
4:35 "we breathe %100 oxygen" why would you do that? isn't that harmful? Why not breathe %100 air?
Tonguç Endem human beings breathe oxygen. Any other gas is a pollutant. If you have pure oxygen why pump something else?
My chemistry teacher told me you faint almost instantly.
Most space suit use 100% O2 at round 3.7 to 5 psi.
The air we breath is ~80% nitrogen and ~20% oxygen. Too much oxygen would make you pass out. This is what hyper-ventilation is- putting significantly more oxygen into your blood stream.
Calvin neason, Apollo 1. That's why.
This guy would tear it up at Comic Con : |
Next he should build an EVA space suit.
Next level evolution
He needs to work with Copenhagen Suborbitals.
So he's a fucking genius....
Salute..! Deserve a lot of respect.
The suit will definetly explode in the vacum of space...
Awesome I Love Your Way Of Thinking Buddy!!!!!
No kevlar?
at 250c in space those tubes gonna melt
Same for me, my vision is actually not very good. Therefore I turned down the path of becoming a military pilot.
He will not survive space, but could maybe go in a high alltitude baloon?
He can give that suit a try when he actually travels to space and see what happens
stephen jang or just go to a deep pool like NASA
Say what you want at least he's following his dream
Pandorin of course u don't, cuz ur just another idiot sitting in front of a screen all day
stephen jang
You’re the one talking shit about this guy who is simply following his dream
Don’t you have anything better to do?
Miki Nagazu why are you getting butthurt? I aint even hating, im just saying that he can give that suit a try in outer space when our technology allows him to do so.
