That old man who won't unfasten his seatbelt (probably due to age and/or health condition), that man gets me. Man's seen it all, life after WW2, first spaceflight, people being able to call each other, to the modern age where everybody has a computer in their pockets. And now he casually went to space himself, in a rocket.

The most common definition of where space begins is the *_Kármán line_* at 100 km altitude. Their peak altitude or apogee was 107 km and they stayed above 100 km for about 80 seconds out of a total flight time of 10 minutes.

What I find profound is how most people don’t value what we have on this earth but put them up there, give your average human this experience, and once they touch back down it’ll bring them to tears, we really are so clueless about our existence it makes every issue on our planet seem futile, truly a beautiful experience, space travel is the answer to world peace in my opinion

Here's why: If you go to the frame at 9:46 exactly, that is taken at 200,000 feet ok, we can "see the curvature" now, keep that frame in mind, could even screenshot.
Now go to the exact frame at 11:34. This is taken at roughly 500 feet as per what the guy literally said it was. Notice, the same curvature at 200,000 feet in height, and 500 feet in height. This is due to the fish eye lens.
On your screenshots, draw a line from one end of the horizon to the other, you will see the clear bulge, on both..
This is nothing but the work of lens distortion.

But tourists momentarily touching the bare minimum Karman line & calling themselves astronauts is a bit of an eye roll, as if they're somehow on the same level of real astronauts that reach orbital velocity, work on the ISS, do moon missions, etc. This is what people mean when they say touching the Karman line is technically space perhaps... but not really because it's kind of a broad & overinflated statement to make.

Made me tear up too. My Grandpa told me that when he was at University in the 1940s, his physics professor told him that man would never make it to the moon because we'd never be able to generate enough energy to make it past the earth's atmosphere.

Yes, it was. First of all, deep sea is much more dangerous than space. And this here is not some garage style engineering. It is a company with 6000 employees, that launches this rocket since 2015 and did 15 unmanned flights before the first human flights, and has a NASA contract. And I don't know if you already knew that, but one of the guys who died in the Titanic submarine made a flight in this rocket.
This is honestly so cool to watch a group of guys go from shooting trick shots to becoming superstars and then being amongst the stars in space. Congrats men.

After watching this it not only made me super proud to be a DP fan but I also got really emotional and excited for Coby!!!!! Thank you Coby and the Space team to give us the opportunity to witness history.

I was a kid when this guys blew up in 2015.. seeing our own planet in Coby's pov is fascinating, jaw dropping scene to me.. its pretty much unbelievable, a world so bountiful and boundless can now be achieved in our time... this brings tears... that I thought would never happen in a Dp vid..
I would love to be there just so I could see the planet and have a real sense of how small we are .. but I wouldn't want to do it for the floating sensation since they weren't really floating they just weren't there yet what they were doing was falling it's like throwing a ball to the sky and you know that moment the ball can't go any higher and it's stops and start falling back down that's what they did I recommend anyone here to get the app brilliant.. I can teach you how it all works still pretty amazing and they are very lucky to experience something they know so little about and I would probably never do it even tho I know so much more than they know about it .. makes you realize your knowledge don't make you special in all situations 😂
It's the same for the astronauts onboard the International Space Station - they aren't actually floating either, but 'falling around the earth'.

I believe the earth is a globe but you can deny that on 9:40 round then 11:34 round then 11:44 still round at ground level.
It's more than obvious that some of the footage was recorded using cameras that are fitted with distorting wide-angle lenses.

I'm not 'assuming' anything - I know for a 100% FACT that cameras with distorting wide-angle lenses were used to record some of the footage shown in this video.

Compare the shape of the horizon at 9:48-54 to the short glimpse at 11:30.
Both passes near the _centre_ of the frame where the distortion caused by the fisheye lens is close to zero. Why is the first clearly curved while the second is not?
Using the fisheye lens as an excuse to reject the curvature without doing any further analysis is ignorant, dishonest or just lazy!

These guys are literally up there and they commented saying look at the curvature of the earth. But I guess they’re also in on it as well. 80% of the world is in on it and there has never been a leak.

and that dream will soon become reality for all of us. rocket launches are getting exponentially cheaper. once there is a fully reusable rocket and possibly a cheaper fuel source or fuel that has higher energy density (=less fuel needed by weight -> less energy needed due to lighter weight). im guessing a space flight will be as cheap as 10K within 30 years.

I saw nothing different from the footage what you would see from a high altitude inert gas balloon. Not to mention the curvature of the earth is not consistent and it increases or decreases 9:52 depending on the camera angle. That is a direst result from the conical curved shape of the vessels glass shield.
It's not consistent but it's consistently round.

I agree, my heart melted when I accidentally fell into a volcano. LOL! Just kidding (JK if you didn't know) I have never actually been inside a volcano, but I have been inside a dentist's office, and let me tell you, I can't imagine a place any worse than that. They told me I can only get my teeth cleaned after I present them with my credit card number and info, then they just sent me home. Unrelated, people are using my credit card to buy land in Mongolia, I'm not sure how they got my info. If you give me your credit card info, then I will send you candy.

I’m a very emotional and compassionate guy. I always shed tears of joy at the thought of how small we are and be so lucky to have life on this planet in the middle of an endless universe. Watching this for the first time on Thanksgiving Day made me so much more thankful! What an experience! Really happy for you guys! Thanks for sharing this journey with us all.
Don’t ever lose that man!! I’ve become more cynical than i used to be and I’m not happy about it. I definitely wouldn’t say I’m a cynic, just less empathetic than i used to be. Mainly because life has really kicked me hard over and over during the past 8-10 years. It sucks.😅…. Idk how old you are, but if you’re younger, just make sure you hold onto that. I’m only 36, and I’m glad I’m at least aware of how I’ve changed and I’m trying to fix it. Lol.
