- Halley VI build, the trailer.
A state of the art station being built in Antarctica and was finished this year 2012. The building is like no other ever built before in Antarctica. It took many people from all over the world to put it together in a hostile environment with blizzards and freezing temperatures.
The big red building is probably the biggest sledge ever towed!
One of the coolest things on the planet.

I love this place !
It is great:)
If ever there was a short film that looked like it would have made a decent 40 minute documentary then this is it. Fascinating
An amazing achievement! Cheers to the Halley 6 build team!
I'd like the red one as a house.
Wind was tricky as you can't get the big wind turbines to stay up in the snow (I believe). There is space for the solar panels and wiring in place they just need some extra pennies to get them bought and fitted in the future.
place I would love to go.
would be awesome to make houses like this.
Cheers for that. I made a feature length documentary of the project for British Antarctic Survey. Unfortunately so far they haven't done anything with the footage hopefully they will though.
What are overall costs?
@@iwantanaivanovic2962 Not sure actually?
i always thought Antarctica cant be claimed by any country, kind of like the moon. or does that not apply to research stations?
Thats right as long as the Antarctic treaty is upheld. Research Stations on Antarctica are owned by many different countries though and upkeep by those countries:)
An amazing antidiluvian city was found there by Chile explorers forbiden zone now but not for our north frienfs
Oh really never heard of it?
What no swimming pool ? .. this looked like a lot of work. WOW nice job. any use of solar or wind and how is power generated ??
diesel generators..they showed them in the film
Is the red pod like the life pod if anything goes bad do you all have to sleep and live in the red one if it’s a emergency 🚨 x
There were actually two sledges with container on them with 6 months food and all the kit needed. So if the ice shelf started breaking off they could grab these and drive inland to where it is safer:) Main danger is the ice shelf and the pods would take to long and could be impossible to move in the winter:)
"MAKE THEM SUPPER!"
"ALIEN BEANS!!!"
