    They are converted DC3s known as Basler BT-67s. They have Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-67R turboprop engines. They perform better in the cold then the old piston radial engines. Many BT-67s are in use all over the world.

      @@extremefilm Quick question. Why do you need to pee before you poo in the toilet there?

    • @extremefilm
      @extremefilm  5 років тому

      @@david5uper529 I think just to keep it separate to carry out as nothing can be left in Antarctica. The pee just goes in a 250 litre drum but poo is packaged separately and is a more expensive way so pee would add to the expense and has the possibility of making it a whole lot messier for who ever is looking after it:)

    why is sun sets from right to left, if i see every single day from left to right until dark?

    • @extremefilm

      Do you live North of the equator? If you do it will set the opposite of this film in Antarctica:)

    • @Zavarkinas

      nope, Europe. but its only possible if sun is lot smaller than earth and u stay other side of it...

    • @extremefilm
      @extremefilm  7 років тому +4

      Europe is North of the equator so the sun goes left to right for us (I live in Scotland) but if you travel to Antarctica you cross over the equator and then you look back at the equator from the opposite of it, to see the sun. So the sun travels right to left:)

    • @Zavarkinas

    • @wynand988
      @wynand988 10 місяців тому

      @@extremefilm interesting! It's odd because I'm comparing the angels of the sun in the northern hemisphere and southern hemisphere and it would seem like the north gets more sun year round.
      Some places past the Antarctic circle for the same latitude past the equator has the sun quite a bit lower than you see in the arctic circle.
      I've become curious enough to go there myself if it weren't so expensive haha!

    • @extremefilm

    Why arent' there any windows on the planes going to Antartica? Wow

    • @extremefilm
      @extremefilm  7 років тому

    • @fiore4528
      @fiore4528 7 років тому +1

      yeah I know. It's not allowed to see the panorama 360° around, I know very well. The thing I do not know is ""Why??"

    • @extremefilm
      @extremefilm  7 років тому

      I am not sure 100% why either but I am pretty sure it is because lots of cargo is flown at the same time as passengers on most of these flights so a passenger jet would not work for this use. The cargo jet is more functional. I think they did once land a passenger jet here though? I think. The Ilyushin Russian jet are well tested in these cold environments too:)

      @@extremefilm Your wee films are fine. However, mate, don't laugh, if you knew the truth you would change your whole concept of how this world works - not a spinning ball lol ... It's so simple. And so pure. That's why all ancient cultures including the great Tartaria knew the truth we are not moving - how the hell could anyone think that... it's absurd anyway, - your socks would be burnt off if you know the truth. Live in sheeple land and true science and "experts" ... lol... Appreciate your comment mate. If you laugh at the truth that is fine by me. I cannot wake you up. From Australia, out. Antarctica is not a continent.

    What on earth are human beings doing in Antarctica. The exploration is not cool, its degrading in a way. We will pay heavy price for our own consequences when we can't leave even the smallest portion on earth to remain on its own.

      Most that travel there are scientists studying many things. Like we discovered the ozone hole from research at Halley research station which lead to the world wide ban on CFC gases. This stopped the enlarging of the hole. Just in the last year or two it has started shrinking. This would never have happened if we hadn't been in Antarctica. Many studies in Climate change happen down there too that affect our world and studies of cosmic weather which can have effects on our communications through satellites. So there are many good reasons to be there:)

      Are u one of the scientist? Cause I don't agree with what you are saying "good to be there". I acknowledge that hole in the ozone layer above Antarctica was recently discovered but that's not because human had research base in Antarctica or Access to environment in the continent. It can be discovered doing research anywhere else.
      Everyone that travelled there aren't scientist. Some are exploring ways to permanently established their territory in the continent because of the availability of huge untap resources. While some explore the continent for sports and sight seeing. Leave the nature to its natural state. Scientist or no scientist, research or no research purpose, human invasion only opens up possiblity for human colonization.
