I worked at halley 5 and helped with halley 6 test sledge which helped make this base possible. I always feel extremely proud and privileged to have played my small part. One day who knows I might return.
I really wish someone would do the kind of in depth tour of Halley that Jeffery Donenfeld or Gone Venturing did for Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station. If you get beck to Halley you should do so. I would love a 45 minute in depth exploration of your facilities there.
Gone Venturing’s Viktor is such a legend like ! His videos are incredible of the US amundsen Scott station. The US station looks more cosy I have to admit like , although both would be cool
Those sounds recorded by the Halley Very Low Frequency Reciever brought me here. Thanks to Elite Dangerous. I have always loved Antarctica, and it is always great to see this stuff. Greets from Finland!
there's only 6 of us left now. Bryce and Johnson are nowhere to be found. Same, but I couldn't share the sleeping areas like that and to be stranded with the other workers would be a nightmare for me cos there's no escape and no privacy

i was offered a job once in the military in the 80s flying C-130s on skis out of new zealand on resupply missions, probably helping build this, I wish i had not turned it down. For those wondering why, my ex wife talked me out of it threatening divorce, i should have just divorced then lol. oh well, the one continent i havent been to, regrets.
Not really, I was only there for 3 months and was very pressed for time. Was too busy to be bored but if i didn't have work to do it would get tiresome quickly. The area is very flat without many features, but the base had a lot of games, musical instruments, a gym and movie stores for entertainment. Also there is a real community feel with great support structures if you're feeling down. Thanks for the question!
That's not what they're researching, mostly space observation, particle physics research, global climate observation, and paleo-climate studies with ice cores. There are tundra areas on the continent's coast that are more mild, relatively speaking, and home to some plant life in the form of terrestrial algae, a few dozen moss species, and two small flowering plants (Antarctic Hairgrass and Antarctic Pearlwort), as well as some fungi and bacterial colonies, these are host to a few hardy insects and various birds and seals. In this part of Antarctica the living things are studied too for a variety of reasons.

So basically, humanity still managed to find a way of working a 9 to 5 in an office even at the end of the earth.
I've never laughed so hard at a comment in my life
And they seem to spend half the day just eating, which isnt too far off from the governement work in my town.

I love how the US station looks like a war ship and the UK station looks like a village primary school (on a snow day, obviously..)
Which US station? There are 3 main ones.

This is awesome, the best things about science is the worker's life is always a pleasure. How awesome!
It's my biggest dream to ever do research on Antarctica, this station looks great. But it will be a hard way to ever get there..
Just hide in a beer barrel till you get inside. You'll be fine. I believe in you.
This stations looks amazing, I love watching videos about it. Thanks for sharing!

Is there an ample supply of flamethrowers ready? Id hate to get caught with my pants down when we do the regular blood tests
These environments always remind me of "the thing" movie lol

Check out the HBO miniseries "The Head". Thriller/mystery that takes place in a remote antarctic station just like this one.

Thanx for the vid. Halley is dope.
All you need now is Kurt Russell and a flame thrower!
That is the most non-Antarctic openning music I could possibly imagine.
How do you deal with alien lifeforms that are able to infect, absorb and replicate fellow team members ?
They do regular blood tests, and have flame throwers on standby.
Frach bread every day. Damm do not worry king 👑 is coming to live there
It's all fun and games until an eldritch horror shows up
Why do you have to sleep in a container outside the station? (??)
I have the same question
I can imagine someone shouting "who left the door open!" every half hour just like in our house.
Very interesting video
What's the name of the intro song? Great video too, I had no idea there was a British base!
this is really great!
Reminds me of my base in Subnautica 😀
That’s what I was thinking
I wanted this to be more like Alien Isolation.
It wasn't

How close are you to the entrance to inner earth?
This reminds me of that movie The Thing
is there anyone who could help me find the actual size of this? Tyring to do a project of this thing
why isn't everything connected? it can't be economical having to open doors all the time.

How do you stop the metal handles from freezing/icing over so they will still move?

(2:50) I'm wondering why a few of the modules are separated from the rest by this long wood planked walkway. 🤔
There are less popular people in the other ones.
Could have done without the education of the small snow drifts outside the buildings.
Not to much work going on there either
