Hey everyone! Sorry I forgot to mention the kind of zipper I used in this tutorial, but to clear up some confusion: Yes you can sew over the zipper if its those light weight zippers with plastic teeth. No, you CAN'T sew over the zippers with metal teeth :) If you want to use a zipper with metal teeth, make sure its the exact length you need it to be so you won't have to make any adjustments to it :D Hope this makes sense! +novacane +xnightdreamer
Thank you so much April I’ve never sewn zipper into fabric, this is $$$$ fabric too but I am going to watch you do that again before I attempt. Been watching your transformations for a long while but what really impressed me is your design you are a true designer thank you for showing me/us❤️🎃
You saved my life!! I was so worried and didn't know how to sew a zipper onto a dress so I was asking my friend's mom but she didn't answer, and I was reading the instructions but it didn't tell me! As a last resort I chose UA-cam and thankfully I did!
Great tutorial ❣️. You’ve actually showed how to finish the top seam. Very clear and to the point. Very clean looking finished product as wellLoved it❣️ I’ll be trying it today on my project
this is heaps helpful!! I have used zippers in bags but never in clothes, and I am halfway through a skirt pattern when i realise I have no idea how to put the zipper in! This has totally cleared it up. thanks!
Keep it up you are the reason why I got into sweaing love the things you do and you are a great teacher you make it look so easy and your instructions are great keep it up we all love watching your videos
Would you please make more tutorials like this one :) I'm learning how to sew and your videos have been really helpful. Thank you and keep up the good work.
I watched this a different day and was more clear, I was looking for help with a dress with a liner because its more complicated. Thank you for you time.
Hi April! Please do post videos every week. Your tutorials are very helpful and I want to learn more. You're amazing:) please make more thrifted transformation videos:)
do you study fashion or is this your hobby? i love the fact that you put such videos here will good explanation how to. not like flash diagrams of where you cut the materials.
I love this! Im a beginner at sewing and would really love some basics on fabrics and what type of stitches are good for certain fabrics as well as what tensions best/ most appropriate to use! I've had problems with this for as far as I can remember so this would be great and super helpful!!! Keep up the great work!! :)
Love your videos April!!! I find it hard to sew sleeves, necklines, collars, button holes and invisible zippers. Anytime i sew it, it just ends up..... not nice :( It would be nice to see a tutorial. Also getting the waistband right, it seems like whenever i sew a waistband, the top part is always loose... Not sure if the reason is, because i didn't sew the interface with the fabric, or i should make it a little bit less than my waist. not sure what the problem is... any advice? Thanks.
I didn't see how you folded down or back or over just before you stitched up the seam at the top of the zipper. Hey, thanks for this by the way. It was helpful!
Thanks for the tutorial! Somehow I always mess up when doing the zipper no matter how much tutorials I look at. You kept it simple and understandable (is that a word :P) so thanks a lot!!
Hello! Thank you so much for this tutorial :) I just have one question: I don't need to hem the top of my dress, because I lined it so the rough edges are already hidden. So for that little bit of the zip where the zipper doesn't reach, should I just cut it off? Because I want the zipper to zip up all the way of the dress.
hey april. i watch your videos alot and i love what you are doing. i got me a 1946 singer sewing machine and it works awesome. now that it is already autumn, can you please please make a video that you are making a button up long sleeve shirt with collar. i have been experimenting how to do it myself but i always end up failing. you know better than me. please. thank you so much. chiara
Thanks coolirpa I've been wanting to design dresses for my friends but I can't use stretchy fabric forever right? Thanks again for making this video, it helps alot :)
Thank you. That was a very good technique. I'm having a problem with a shirt in a size 2 toddler for my granddaughter. Everything is so little but the top of the back of the neck gets very bunchy when I fold over the top of the zipper as you did in your demonstration. What would you recommend?
Wow... i always insert zippers by basting it shut, sewing, and opening it but this actually seems so much simpler!! Now i don't have to dread my current project
Thanks is a nice tutorial. I am trying to add a zipper without cutting the entire skirt material from one end to another. I am attaching a princess skirt to a bustier but do not wish to cut a seam on the back creating another seam. I just wish to cut the skirt only 5 or 6 inches and sew zipper on the back with 7 inches for the bustier and include the 5 or 6 inches on the skirt without cutting and ctreating another seam.
great tutorial! I really need to practice my zipper skills :) can you make a tutorial on how to take in clothes to fit you? and how to sew with knits? how to sew without making too tight?
This video was very helpful since im about to sew in a zipper could you do a video on making sleeves for a tank top instead of wearing a cardigan hopefully dat makes sense😅
Would it be possible to put a zipper on something that's already made, for example I made a circle skirt with a waistband and it fits fine but is hard to get over the behind. I was thinking about putting a zipper in it but don't want to ruin it.
Yeah its possible. Sorry for answering instead of april but you could just cut it down and make a seam down the back or the side or where ever the zipper will go and then sewing it like the video said. I hope that made sense :)

So for that little bit of the zip where the zipper doesn't reach, should I just cut it off? Because I want the zipper to zip up all the way of the dress.
you cant either s
cut it, or you can fold those flaps back down on bith sides and sew them.
So I can either cut them or fold them? Ok! Thank you! :)
No problem :)
