It's amazing to see the differences between Romita and Kubert. How Romita seems to have everything planned out precisely and there is no wasted motion. And then you have Kubert which seems scattered and frantic but comes out beautiful and dynamic in the end!
also don’t forget how many (maybe 1000) times John drew Spidey, its in his blood. If I were to ask him to draw something out of the ordinary, maybe he would do it a bit more loose like Joe did
I've been watching all three parts of this montage for years and I never get tired of it, especially the first part with Jazzy Johnny pencilling and INKING Spider-Man in front of your eyes.
Man, I wanna draw like that one day! I've been drawing superheroes since I was two, so I'm mostly self taught, but watching all the greats draw like Jim Lee, Jack Kirby, John Buscema and Todd McFarlane has really taken me a long way in the past two years! Keep up the good work comic artists!
The way Johnny draws Spider man, Still has me in Awe today! I wish in my lifetime I could have met him! Would have done anything to him him draw me a Spidey! A legend is gone in my eyes! Loved anything he did!❤️❤️😩😢😢
@@Ktn_Tico I sure wish I had his address to write him, I grew up with his work, I have the amazing Spider-Man comics 39-135, without missing one!! I also draw. But would love to contact him before he passes. But No luck.😫🥺
@@matthewfriend2230 yeah, I went to school with John jr and my grandfather used to be in the comic business coloring the prints of the pages that the greats like jack kirby Gil Kane and John sr did. Ya know in the old comic book when you look close enough you see those dots? Yeah my grandfather worked on some prints that where sold in NYC.
Glad to know I'm not the only one who likes to watch and hear someone draw. I've even included it in my migraine therapy. Thanks SO much for keeping these in real time without loud obnoxious music.
the second "weird mean looking Batman" was being drawn by the late JOE KUBERT (whom founded the Kubert School Of Graphic Art in Dover NJ). Joe designed that Batman for DC's "Just Imagine" with Stan Lee back in 2002!
These guys are amazing - and Jazzy Johnny Romita once again proves that his Spider-Man is the definitive version, against which all others are measured. True legends at work.
I like how Romita, just does the straight up drawing in light strokes, than he just goes to darkening it, he doesn't even sketch them which is also cool
I think it's so incredible to see Kubert not even bother to pencil his idea and go straight into inks. I guess if you've been doing this most of your life, you build up a good bit of confidence:P
The Pen John Romita is using in this video is a TOMBOW Double-Brush tipped marker pen. They have them on amazon and on a website called BLUE LINE PRO. Just google BLUE LINE PRO and when you get there, run the name of the pen through the website's search engine. You'll find the very pen John Romita is using in the video. Good Luck!
Why would anyone thumbs down on this? Too sedate a video? No annoying and intrusive loud music? Incapable of recognizing the simple but profound act of a human being creating something from nothing? This is one of the best youtube videos I have seen, and it says more than many hyperactive attention deficient brains can cope with!
So beautiful getting to watch John romita draw Spider-Man. And Joe kubert style is so awesome the way it figures gesturing and shaded he really packs some action into it and it's dramatic even without a story to go with it
Known John since 1982 super talent man. A true gentleman with a heart of gold! Never thought as a little boy & teenager I'd know him & be friends with him!
I actually write him a very brief letter in early 1982. A few month later in spring. While in Marine boot camp I received a letter back from him. To my surprise ith a small spidey head sketch on it. We reconnected again in spring of 86. Then over many years we'd reconnected.
Ok it's 2022, someone should run these videos through that AI Upscaling software XD I'd love to see these at 1080p hehe. Even all these years later i still love watching these.
Interesting that Romita Spidey’s eyes have gotten larger over time, whereas someone like Bagley has drawn them smaller and smaller as the years have gone by. Weird how that goes lol
It's amazing how sure he is of every stroke he makes. No hesitation. Same with Buscema in his video. They just know what's right! Could watch these videos all day
Guys like him are like One Direction to a teenage girl, I admire people like this because they are artists who are both creative and imaginative enough to bring these comics to life.
I think the ultimate key to drawing muscles is simplicity. When I try to squeeze is lots of detail into an arm, it doesn't work. Ya'know, with all the ripples and stuff. Once you learn how to draw simply but effectively, your drawings will soar in greatness!
I can't believe I get to watch one of my main artist heroes and Inspirations, John Romita, draw one of my favorite heroes, Spider-Man! I was begging money off my dad, my biggest hero, to buy Spider-Man comics drawn by Romita when I was 5 years old! Plus Joe Kubert is on here too? It's too good
man, they each used several brands of pens, of different thicknesses. most art stores have a huge selection, just get like 5 or 6 different ones from thin to thick.
RIP to the man who drew so much of my childhood

Kubert's like "pencils? I don't need no stinkin pencils."
10 years later and I'm still watching...
Same here man

John’s work on Spider-Man is absolutely amazing!

John Romita's confidence with that drawing is AWESOME! :)
i guess it is quite off topic but does anyone know a good place to watch newly released tv shows online ?
@Griffin Apollo i watch on FlixZone. Just google for it =)

@Grady Milan thanks, I went there and it seems to work =) Appreciate it !!
@Griffin Apollo no problem :D
Love the sound of the pencils and pens moving.
So relaxing!
Gets me psyched up to draw....and I am an artist!

I am right there with you. Comics for life

It was so interesting to see Romita draw the line that neutered Spidey!
After all these years, he's still great! My favorite Spidey artist of all time.
what an artist and a legend !
I draw comics for a living, and this *still* seems like magic to me. Especially John Romita Sr at the beginning - just incredible.
Amazing! They seem to know what it will look like before they start.
HE MAKES DRAWING ALL THOSE LITTLE WEBS LOOK SO EASY
With practice it is easy

Best Spider Man artist ever!!!
Agent Venom I'm gonna be the next best!

No music beats the soothing scratching noise of the chemistry between the pencil/pen/brush and the paper/canvas.

Best spidey picture I've seen, what talent, you know, I draw too, but that is just amazing.
Wow so soothing. I was so involved in every pen stroke, I didn't even notice the 9 minutes go by.
That’s amazing. Spectacular even.
The comic book masters doing what they do best!
Gotta love comics!

That being said, good to see such rare footage of pro artists performing.

I like how comic book artists really understand how Lycra body suits reflect light and cast shadows.
Wow that was amazing how they could do that without looking at anything and getting the shading just perfect so it all goes perfect together.
Joe Kubert is so boss he doesn't even have to do construction lines
I love how Mr. Kubert makes those at first seemingly random lines work in the end.
AMAZING!! Romita was PERFECT. Pause for a moment of greatness at 4:23-4:37. The others were really awesome as well.
Beautiful. I love it. I hope that when I reach my 60's 70s, Im' still able to rock like these guys. Cool stuff. :-]
That Spiderman was perfect
That was magical
I love the gesture in the Joe Kubert piece.

amazing!
It's an artist pen, with a brush tip. You can pick one up at your art supply store for a few dollars. And they are the best!
Romita is using a Tombo ABT brush pen-- it's a marker with a flexible tip on one end and a hard tip on the other. Made in Japan. Romita is awesome.
wow.. amazing!!
All these years later I think Kubert's "Enemy Ace" was my favorite work by him.
