@@Nocure92 I know people who have had the other side of this conversation with me literally (like complaining ab an employee not putting in a 2-week before quitting) and they actually do think this way it's wild. When I mention sometimes that work isn't everything and some people don't really value it in the same way that same person seems to get confused about why someone would think that way every time. It's funny what being a neutral party will end up letting you overhear lmao

This needs to be the most up voted comment on this page. It's not enough that people have lost faith in businesses from an employer to an employee viewpoint. People need to force companies to follow safe and fair policies. It'll probably never happen, we need more unions, and it needs to be something that isn't refused by companies, nor used against potential employees for being a member of them, which both things have happened.

There was a casino which it will be called Rusty nugget LOL... and the guy who was one of the directors told me that I am not rehireable. Even though I did give a four - or five day notice. This is for my resignation. I can not give you two weeks because the job was ready to bring me on. And trust me, it was a better job.
So this is Knucklehead said at the end of the meeting you know you won't be able to get rehired back here again. Like this job was my life and it's going to end when I leave. I smiled widely...... and said, "You know I am not worried about that because you will never see me again!" Peace!!!!

Other employers can see that you were marked not eligible for rehire. They will wonder what you did for them not to want you back. Did you quit without notice? Sexually harass all the female employees? Not do anything you were asked to do? As a hiring manager, I am hesitant to hire ppl that have previously been marked not eligible for rehire. Legally, the prior employer can't tell the prospective employer why, and we are not allowed to directly ask candidates why they aren't eligible. We can ask why they left their last job. If we know they aren't eligible, it is easier to discern if they are or aren't being truthful.

I am not from the US so this sounds so alien to me. So how do other employers see that you've been marked inelegible for rehire? Why is that even a public thing? It being public sounds like it's an extortion tool. Wouldn't a company that actually wants you back be actually able to rehire you? Like if they make a better offer or whatever. US labor rights are SO third world man

      @indiah663 Місяць тому +15

@BaroTheMadman I wouldn't say it was "public record" per se, but it does go in your file. It has to, so if you try to come back 5 years down the road, they know not to rehire you. Things have happened and people have gone back to work at a previous employer before. However, if the new job you're going for asks the outgoing job if they would hire you again, they can say no, they just can't say why and the "new" job can't ask them or you why. They can just NOT hire you if they're thinking you're trouble.

I can only tell you how Liberated I felt. To play games and try to spite me. They scheduled me to work on the day I was starting the new job even thou it was past the two week notice I had given them. So I showed up for work ;-) Timed it perfectly then just walked over and clocked out.
It was the greatest pleasure seeing the alarms blare “clocking out before the end of your shift!”. The supervisor came over and said “What’s this about? This is all for show isn’t it? You didn’t really get a new job did you?”. I proudly told him: Yes I did and it pays 35k more a year than this place does. Oh and it starts in an hour so I have to get going now. Wouldn’t want to be late on my first day!
He said: You leav’un us hanging! Where is your Loyalty to our company? We have no one to cover your shift! I’ll have to *gasp* do it myself!
With the greatest of pleasure, I took off that dinky little vest. Handed it to him and said “This job is yours now. My loyalty is why I came to work a half shift after my last day of work. Good for you to, or I’d get over time if I worked the full shift. You’d get in trouble again if I did that right? Peace out!”
6 years later I purchased my home. Ever thankful for the opportunity to actually have a full time career with perks and benefits. Plus free banquet food on weekends, supervisor position that reports only to the general
manager who then forwards my report to the owner. Blessed

I literally had this happen. I hurt myself at work and they tried fighting me on the workman’s comp. I asked my lawyer if quitting would affect the workman’s comp case and he said no so I put my resignation in the next day which would be my last day. The HR manager literally told me I HAD to put in a 2 weeks notice or I would forfeit my workman’s comp claim and that I would be ineligible for rehire. I asked her what part of me quitting effectively immediately would make her think I cared about being rehirable. She said “because you’re desperate to get that workman’s comp money and I can make it to where you won’t see a dime if you dont do what I say!”
She didn’t realize the phone in my hand was recording until she received a letter from EEOC and the State Labor Department letting her know she was under investigation.
I got a check for $9,000 for the injury and $10,000 for her stupidity. Easiest money I’ve ever made.

In fact, they waited specifically so they hoped I wasn't even at work when they wanted to get rid of me. I scheduled vacation, and the manager refused to approve it but kept telling me to go ahead and take it and she'd approve it later. The first day came, I showed up to work anyway, and the manager marched on the floor, all smiles, calling out for me, hoping I didn't show up. When I walked out from behind a machine and said I was there, that smile just dropped into the biggest scowl I'd ever seen, and I got taken into a small room to get my severance package sorted out.

I did my Thesis and Dissertation on 'toxic management' ... While still employed. As you can imagine that did not go over well with my bosses. After the news got around about my studies, it took them another 4 years to fire me. Even then, they couldn't find a way, until I got hurt and was in the hospital and couldn't call in. They couldn't fire me for 'non-performance', because I was a stellar employee, so they fired me for not calling in for 3 days. They had a policy that if you don't call in for 3 days you can be terminated. Since I was unconscious in the hospital and I couldn't call in, and you can't fire somebody for that, it turns out you can fire somebody for not calling in. Corporate America baby!!! 🤦🏻

Later that day. She came home early. Saying when her manager read her two week notice. He released her right on the spot. To this day, I feel guilty giving her such bad advice. I'm her Dad. She trusted me. I didn't recognize the world is changing. And not for the better. 😢

This. I gave a job unofficial notice like 2 months out because I was moving states and I knew the month I would be leaving, but didn’t know my official last day. I still gave 2 weeks notice when I figured out my official last day. The entire time leading up to it I kept asking my manager if she had figured out a replacement and that I was happy to help train them so that it would be a smooth transition for our team (at that point I cared way more about my coworkers than her). She kept telling me that she was working on it, but not to worry about it. Two days after my last day she texted me asking if I could come in for her because she was sick (this was a constant anytime she didn’t feel like coming in, but I was usually fine to pick up the extra hours). It was so satisfying to remind her that I didn’t work for her anymore. She acted like she was surprised and said, no I thought we had one more month? And I was like feel free to check my letter of resignation that I submitted two weeks ago to check the date when you get in. 😂

She did her job as usual. Her manager messaged her this morning, asking if she had jury duty. Two hours later, she replied, “Hi. You usually are required by law to give the employee or the employer sufficient time to permit transfer of knowledge. Sending an email on a weekend and not returning to a place of work is not a very mannered way to do thing, no matter that its a toxic workplace. You are not a kid, you indicate you won't be working with them and they have 2 weeks to close the files you were working on. You could actually tell them (or HR) at that time you prefer to leave immediately, especially if you believe it has an impact on your health. Working in a place is a contract, the employers has a contract to give you work everyday and not get rid of you if they don't have a good reason, you have a contract to do your job in exchange for pay and give them time to replace you once you leave.
This would not apply if you have been working there for less than 6 months and if you are not a full time employee. Hell guys, learn to be respectful, the other employees even bosses are humans too.

If you are laid off - ie. terminated without cause, you'll likely be paid out a notice period, any unused vacation pay plus a severance, but hey, if you'd rather just continue working a notice period and not get any of the rest of it, have at it! If you quit without notice, there might not be any major consequences. On the other hand, if you have that attitude about quitting, you probably have a poor attitude to work anyway. If prospective employers don't catch wind of your tendency to quit without notice, your unreliable attitude to work may come across in other ways which won't serve you well.

Ots so crazy to me. US. Everything is corporate. Where I’m from, we wonder why someone is showing up late. Maybe depression. Try to help them. Of course. We make much less money, but others in family try to compensate. I say this, my brother missed alot of work. He was also Iraqi commando. He worked at fish market owned by a Muslim Saudi, but he give my brother time. Didn’t fire. At place like i worked at, nissan and Walmart. There’s no consideration. They just fire.

TRUTH!!! They can fire people in my state with no notice at all. I was doing 2 different jobs while there with zero compensation. I was just DONE. If they have that right, so do we.

Exactly. Never give 2 weeks notice, it does not help you. Sometimes they will fire you right then.
