This needs to be the most up voted comment on this page. It's not enough that people have lost faith in businesses from an employer to an employee viewpoint. People need to force companies to follow safe and fair policies. It'll probably never happen, we need more unions, and it needs to be something that isn't refused by companies, nor used against potential employees for being a member of them, which both things have happened.
I witnessed a company employee give their boss a full three-months notice in order to better benefit the corporation in finding a replacement with plenty of time, and for his thoughtfulness, they dropped him immediately and he had to struggle to make rent until his new position started at the new job. Luckily for him, when his new company found out what happened, they hired him sooner so that he wouldn't be surfing someone's sofa or homeless before he got onboard. These companies don't deserve your respect.
A similar thing happened to me. My boss hadn’t noticed that it was my one-year anniversary when I gave my 2-week notice. He was so mad he’d have to grant me vacation time (after never allowing me a day off in a whole year, including sick days!) that he fired me on the spot. As I was packing my things, one of our clients called and when I told them I was leaving, they hired me to help them at their office for the two weeks until my move to another city. They treated me so well I almost changed my plans to work there permanently!
I've not had an enormous number of jobs, and I've always been an above avg employee. That said, on only one occassion did a company "allow" me to work a notice.
@zerogravityriding8615 No. Employers that are respectful to employees do deserve notice, Especially if you want them to refer you fairly when your future employers contact them.
There was a casino which it will be called Rusty nugget LOL... and the guy who was one of the directors told me that I am not rehireable. Even though I did give a four - or five day notice. This is for my resignation. I can not give you two weeks because the job was ready to bring me on. And trust me, it was a better job. So this is Knucklehead said at the end of the meeting you know you won't be able to get rehired back here again. Like this job was my life and it's going to end when I leave. I smiled widely...... and said, "You know I am not worried about that because you will never see me again!" Peace!!!!
Other employers can see that you were marked not eligible for rehire. They will wonder what you did for them not to want you back. Did you quit without notice? Sexually harass all the female employees? Not do anything you were asked to do? As a hiring manager, I am hesitant to hire ppl that have previously been marked not eligible for rehire. Legally, the prior employer can't tell the prospective employer why, and we are not allowed to directly ask candidates why they aren't eligible. We can ask why they left their last job. If we know they aren't eligible, it is easier to discern if they are or aren't being truthful.
I am not from the US so this sounds so alien to me. So how do other employers see that you've been marked inelegible for rehire? Why is that even a public thing? It being public sounds like it's an extortion tool. Wouldn't a company that actually wants you back be actually able to rehire you? Like if they make a better offer or whatever. US labor rights are SO third world man
@BaroTheMadman I wouldn't say it was "public record" per se, but it does go in your file. It has to, so if you try to come back 5 years down the road, they know not to rehire you. Things have happened and people have gone back to work at a previous employer before. However, if the new job you're going for asks the outgoing job if they would hire you again, they can say no, they just can't say why and the "new" job can't ask them or you why. They can just NOT hire you if they're thinking you're trouble.
I literally had this happen. I hurt myself at work and they tried fighting me on the workman’s comp. I asked my lawyer if quitting would affect the workman’s comp case and he said no so I put my resignation in the next day which would be my last day. The HR manager literally told me I HAD to put in a 2 weeks notice or I would forfeit my workman’s comp claim and that I would be ineligible for rehire. I asked her what part of me quitting effectively immediately would make her think I cared about being rehirable. She said “because you’re desperate to get that workman’s comp money and I can make it to where you won’t see a dime if you dont do what I say!” She didn’t realize the phone in my hand was recording until she received a letter from EEOC and the State Labor Department letting her know she was under investigation. I got a check for $9,000 for the injury and $10,000 for her stupidity. Easiest money I’ve ever made.
How ironic. My 23-year-old sister wrote a scheduled email to her manager and HR to send at 9:30 p.m. yesterday. She wrote the email on Sunday and went to work Monday to return company equipment. She did her job as usual. Her manager messaged her this morning, asking if she had jury duty. Two hours later, she replied, “Hi. I sent you and HR a resignation email.” He said, “Oh, I didn't get the email.” She didn't reply. She didn't tell any coworkers she planned to leave the next day. Sis even packed her tiny Ferris wheel off her desk in her work bag and left after work. I'm proud of that girl for leaving the toxic corporate world.
@@anncokafor If it is toxic, leave. I also did a similar thing, giving them a day's notice. As a manager of this ex-company, I thought leaving like that was odd and abrupt, but I had to go ASAP.
@@donw4889 I call BS. Anyway, this 2 weeks notice/effective immediatly nonsense is US specific, so in developed countries people are most of the times more civil in that matter.
Well, you're probably getting fired for a reason, so you are a disgruntled employee at that point and, depending on what field you are in, can do irreparable damage to the company. It makes sense, but it doesn't mean it fair.
@@mikep3813well the employee doesn’t want to work for you anymore & they found a new job, leaving immediately just makes sense for them. See how this goes both ways. The employer is not the main character in anyone else’s life but theirs.
@JoanneNjeri-ef6sz obviously it depends on the situation, but to write off giving two weeks' notice just because they can fire you without notice is kinda dumb and will do more damage than good for both parties involved in the long run. If you have only been in the employees shoes and not the employers shoes as well, you may not understand fully.
Wild that companies think the employees are there are there to enthusiastically help the company, and not just hating their job, but doing it for a salary.
I can only tell you how Liberated I felt. To play games and try to spite me. They scheduled me to work on the day I was starting the new job even thou it was past the two week notice I had given them. So I showed up for work ;-) Timed it perfectly then just walked over and clocked out. It was the greatest pleasure seeing the alarms blare “clocking out before the end of your shift!”. The supervisor came over and said “What’s this about? This is all for show isn’t it? You didn’t really get a new job did you?”. I proudly told him: Yes I did and it pays 35k more a year than this place does. Oh and it starts in an hour so I have to get going now. Wouldn’t want to be late on my first day! He said: You leav’un us hanging! Where is your Loyalty to our company? We have no one to cover your shift! I’ll have to *gasp* do it myself! With the greatest of pleasure, I took off that dinky little vest. Handed it to him and said “This job is yours now. My loyalty is why I came to work a half shift after my last day of work. Good for you to, or I’d get over time if I worked the full shift. You’d get in trouble again if I did that right? Peace out!” 6 years later I purchased my home. Ever thankful for the opportunity to actually have a full time career with perks and benefits. Plus free banquet food on weekends, supervisor position that reports only to the general manager who then forwards my report to the owner. Blessed
One of the best things being an employee in Italy is they cannot fire you without a sufficient notice unless they can prove you did something very wrong at job. If they cannot provide evidence of your fault, they give to pay you the corresponding wage for the days of notice they didn't give you (which neans, for example, you were entitled to 3 weeks notice, if I fire you today, I pay you today, ahead, for the three weeks you would have worked for me if I had given you the correct notice by time. ) *this does't apply to small companies, under 15 employees.
@@luckystroke126 yes 😅 That's because for smaller business, it's considered "family-run". Plus, smaller companies are more sensitive to ups and downs in budget, so they are entitled to send you away if business is bad and they simply cannot pay you anymore.
I have seen people fired and laid off and no one gets a 2 week notice. At best you get to the end of the day to clean out your stuff. Most times security walks you out immediately then your manager arranges to have your stuff sent to you.
Companies fire employees “effective immediately” then turn around and expect a two-weeks notice when you resign. Now that’s Unprofessional. It also, makes them a hypocrite.
Companies that fire effective immediately usually give you pay for those two weeks. Sometimes they give severance packages that are even larger. They do that so you won't complain on glassdoor and they make you sign a form to make sure.
@@paulaw418 I've seen it. Small companies maybe not. But larger companies have a reputation to maintain. The huge company I work for now, and the small company I worked for last both had this policy, two weeks pay minimum.
I did get fire after giving my boss my two weeks notice. I guess he did not like the fact that i was leaving and he decided to let me go two days after i let him know
They can in fact sue you for breach of contract. If you think that is out of the question it is only beacuse you have never been important enough for the business for them to consider it
@@iecsao Unfortunately people are very particular when it benefits them, but when it comes to meeting your own obligation that you signed a legal document to honour they revert to - what are you gonna do about it? @Insert.Name.Here. One section I worked at got closed and we were redeployed all around the area. We had all got on really well and were sad to be parting. The people in the room across the hall wanted our room because it was nicer than theirs. Fair enough. But every time any of us bumped into any of them, they kept saying "We can't wait for you to go, we're so looking forward to having that room." So, on our last day, as the rest of us were busy packing up, our team leader was busy mashing prawns and pushing the paste down the holes in the tops of the radiators.
I put in a two week notice at a job, tried to call in at the beginning of the second week for a medical reason and was told to not bother coming in for the rest of the week for being "unreliable" when I almost never missed a day at that place for two years.
@@DargonhumanYep they didn’t want you to take your sick days. Start your own 2-week notice internally before ever mentioning it to your employer to take your PTO/Sick time. Then just leave whenever you choose.
Composing a resume is a skill that can be learned. Additionally, providing adequate notice is a common courtesy. For instance, when I gave two weeks' notice after a decade of service, I received letters of recommendation from both the owner and the chief financial officer. Indeed, exceptional, or even acceptable work is often recognized and rewarded.
@@kalevala29 While you may have been recognized it does not mean it happens 'often'. Most people who quit and move on to a new job, do it precisely because they are NOT being recognized or rewarded. I gave two weeks notice but because there was a holiday during those two weeks the company was saying it wasn't a full two week. It's petty stuff like that, that happens often.
Well they also can't use that against you on your reference which is why they say won't make you eligible for rehire. It's easy for you to just tell the new employer the truth on why you left. Laws protect us more than the employer, most of us just don't know shit.
Employment is mutually beneficial. I once quit a job after the boss told me that I was on "his time." Let me say this as clearly as I can ... EMPLOYERS RENT MY TIME FROM ME! I don't "owe it" to anyone and no one else "owns" it!
I left a toxic job with immediate notice 3 months ago, felt sooooo good. The final straw was them demanding that we give at least 6 months notice when we leave. All staff left within 2 weeks of me leaving and they closed their business until about a week ago. Satisfactory outcome for the workers.
@@nygrl6102also I left that Job to join a union job. The owner of my company literally pays off my unions reps so we dont get paid our proper overtime rates, among other illegal stuff they get away with somehow lol

@@Ryliasnow I was forced to resign from a job and got unemployment. The options given by my employer were being fired and never being allowed to work for the company again (this was at a major health provider with multiple locations within 50 miles of my house) or resigning. When I explained how it went down to the employment office they approved me for unemployment. Better than the money was the thought of my former manager having to deal with grief from his manager over why someone "resigned" and still got unemployment. HA HA
Why do I find myself watching this clip on a repeat. Her bluntness hits great 😃 Feels like she's speaking for most people who never had the opportunity to say their mind before leaving some abusive jobs.
When I quit my job back in 2018, I gave 3 days notice. The assistant manager came to me and was like "You're quitting without giving notice?" I said "Dude, my last day is Friday. Today is Tuesday. How much more notice do you need? Not like people getting fired are notified 2 weeks in advance."
Depends on the infringement. Some actions lead to immediate dismissal; however, it is common practice in my country to involve a labour lawyer and hold an official hearing between the employee and employer. Don't know how things are done in the Sates. Generally in SA you are given at least 3 weeks notice of your dismissal.
I would never give someone notice that they're fired, that seems crazy. We do give severance though, which, I would think, is better. You get paid but have the time to look for a new job
I worked with a great boss. No way I would not give notice to her. Her replacement had a chip on her shoulder. Threatened my job within 10mins. I decided to quit within a minute. Finished up some work for an hour. Said I was quitting. Clocked out, walked out the door
Not always.. sometimes there's just no where to move in the company, and your best bet is to take a promotion elsewhere for more pay. You can have a great boss, but money always talks.
This myth needs to die. Yes a bad manager will cause people to quit....however that doesn't mean a good manager can magically make people want to work a crappy job. If the job is crappy (hard labor, bad work life balance, bad hours, low pay, bad benefits, long hours, bad holiday schedule.....ect) people are going to quit regardless how awesome the boss is.
the reason most dont is because you have access to all their propriety information or client info or databases. I work in IT and if a person wanted to in tow weeks they could destroy the company. just saying its a huge risk for them thats why they do it.🤷🏼♀️
At my last job i was 4 days into my 2 week notice when they said "Just finished today, because your clearly not putting any effort in." And they were right. 😂
I had a former manager tell she hated when people gave a two week notice because she didn’t want to pay them. So I clocked out and walked out on the busiest day.
The one that got me”I would rather sell my ass”, got me. Sometimes those people are talking so much, that I would rather just call out and not come back kind of a situation.
Nailed it! Two weeks notice is a thing of the past. When my daughter was seventeen. She told me. She wanted to quit her part time job at the movie theater. I told her to do the responsible thing and give written notice. Cause in my generation that's what you did. Later that day. She came home early. Saying when her manager read her two week notice. He released her right on the spot. To this day, I feel guilty giving her such bad advice. I'm her Dad. She trusted me. I didn't recognize the world is changing. And not for the better. 😢
The problem is, when most people give notice, they've already mentally quit. They view the two weeks as a chance to get paid for goofing off or ripping off the company. As a security issue, lots of companies will make the termination immediate.
I had a company do this when I gave my three weeks notice, but they paid me for those three weeks, while I looked for a different job. It was such a toxic work environment, but apparently my bosses bosses boss. Was a great guy. He stepped in after I qualified for unemployment due to the toxic work environment. My boss was fired after I gave my exit interview. Man, that felt good. I kept a file on everything she did to make my life hell.
I did my Thesis and Dissertation on 'toxic management' ... While still employed. As you can imagine that did not go over well with my bosses. After the news got around about my studies, it took them another 4 years to fire me. Even then, they couldn't find a way, until I got hurt and was in the hospital and couldn't call in. They couldn't fire me for 'non-performance', because I was a stellar employee, so they fired me for not calling in for 3 days. They had a policy that if you don't call in for 3 days you can be terminated. Since I was unconscious in the hospital and I couldn't call in, and you can't fire somebody for that, it turns out you can fire somebody for not calling in. Corporate America baby!!! 🤦🏻
I put in a two week notice at the job I worked, I was a salesman I did my best to prepare management for being down one salesman by explaining all the contracts under my name (about 9 or 10 jobs) I worked with the manager to explain all of them and give as much detail as possible. After I left not even a week goes by and I hear from some friends that still worked there that he was talking shit about me and how I left them high and dry and didn’t help any. I worked at a manufacturing plant once as a machine operator. I enjoyed my job and had a great manager. Upper management was horrible though. They eventually fired my manager without notice, just walked him out one day. They installed a ‘yes man’ to his role who was hyper focused on “safety issues” such as wearing ear plugs and safety glasses at all times, even in the break rooms. It didn’t take long for us machine operators to start looking for other jobs. This industry is very specific, there aren’t a lot of people who know how to operate those machines. After the company refused to listen to us and start threatening us, we all left without notice at around the same time period. In fact, they waited specifically so they hoped I wasn't even at work when they wanted to get rid of me. I scheduled vacation, and the manager refused to approve it but kept telling me to go ahead and take it and she'd approve it later. The first day came, I showed up to work anyway, and the manager marched on the floor, all smiles, calling out for me, hoping I didn't show up. It sucks, but that is why I always say that you should never do anything for the company unless it is written. Never trust the "we will figure out later", because that is just an excuse to put you at fault and clean their hands of the problem. That is amazing, now send me the email and I will send you a confirmation. What is that? No, sorry, "we talked about it, I swear" ain't going to cut it if they try to blame me for missing a day.
Of course there was no notice. Lay-offs are not fun for anyone. Would you have been productive at work after getting the news? Most people aren't. Would your mood be a great boost to morale for the people who aren't leaving? Most people's wouldn't. Would you do something stupid if given the chance? Maybe not, but some people have. Companies won't take the risk. There is no reason to keep someone around when they've been laid off and most people don't want to. Your severance package is compensation for a number of damages caused by your termination without cause, including the lack of notice.

@donw4889 the only jobs with that problem to a major extent are low pay jobs that treat their workers like they own them. My place of employment does not have that problem.
They fire by zoom and text but they continue to pay you for two weeks or more, and give you severance. So they are basically saying, you are terminated as of two weeks from now, but during the two weeks, you have no responsibilities and no access and should not attempt to visit company premises.

I still gave 2 weeks notice when I figured out my official last day. The entire time leading up to it I kept asking my manager if she had figured out a replacement and that I was happy to help train them so that it would be a smooth transition for our team (at that point I cared way more about my coworkers than her). She kept telling me that she was working on it, but not to worry about it. Two days after my last day she texted me asking if I could come in for her because she was sick (this was a constant anytime she didn’t feel like coming in, but I was usually fine to pick up the extra hours). It was so satisfying to remind her that I didn’t work for her anymore. She acted like she was surprised and said, no I thought we had one more month? This needs to be the most up voted comment on this page. It's not enough that people have lost faith in businesses from an employer to an employee viewpoint. People need to force companies to follow safe and fair policies. It'll probably never happen, we need more unions, and it needs to be something that isn't refused by companies, nor used against potential employees for being a member of them, which both things have happened.
You better believe it.
True very true smh
Fuck corporate.
And I say F them
I witnessed a company employee give their boss a full three-months notice in order to better benefit the corporation in finding a replacement with plenty of time, and for his thoughtfulness, they dropped him immediately and he had to struggle to make rent until his new position started at the new job. Luckily for him, when his new company found out what happened, they hired him sooner so that he wouldn't be surfing someone's sofa or homeless before he got onboard.
These companies don't deserve your respect.
what an idiot
Wow I'm glad they helped him out❤. That's just cruel😢
I had that happen to me once. I gave a month's notice to be nice & after one week I was sent home. I should have just walked out.
“Employment at will”
Is a two edged sword. It’s time they started to feel it.

Same here. I never give notice. They dont give notice so why should we?
She said, "Ineligible for rehire", like it was a punishment.
US labor rights are SO third world man
I've had a company tell me this...gave them a week and a company tell my spouse the same thing...he gave about a week and a half. Crazy
She said “because you’re desperate to get that workman’s comp money and I can make it to where you won’t see a dime if you dont do what I say!”
She didn’t realize the phone in my hand was recording until she received a letter from EEOC and the State Labor Department letting her know she was under investigation.

One of the best things being an employee in Italy is they cannot fire you without a sufficient notice unless they can prove you did something very wrong at job. If they cannot provide evidence of your fault, they give to pay you the corresponding wage for the days of notice they didn't give you (which neans, for example, you were entitled to 3 weeks notice, if I fire you today, I pay you today, ahead, for the three weeks you would have worked for me if I had given you the correct notice by time. )

Two weeks is only necessary if you need them as a reference.

Not true. In most states, if you give an explicit, bad reference the person can sue for defamation and loss of wages.
Well they also can't use that against you on your reference which is why they say won't make you eligible for rehire. It's easy for you to just tell the new employer the truth on why you left. Laws protect us more than the employer, most of us just don't know shit.

Boss power move.
That's typical
Wow. 😂
It's happened to me at the last 3 jobs I've had. I even try to give up to a month if possible
That one is especially fun when you ask “Would you rather consider it me resigning or you firing me?” Because… unemployment.
I’m crying 😂😂. Talking about turning the tables.
So you want to pay me for two more weeks knowing full well I don't want to work here anymore? Ah, ok. 😂
There were a few that stayed, but that was because the company offered them big bonuses and raises to do so. That was 8 years ago and I’ve never regretted by leaving that place.
What were the other things? Because requiring to wear PPE is standard practice, I don't see why people would leave because of that
Interesting how just one person can completely transform a workplace for the worse.
LOL you sound like you don't care about your safety. It's probably a good thing they got rid of incoming lawsuits like yours. You probably would've been the first to file a lawsuit if you got injured on your job. They cleaned house. Good for them! LOL!!!
@@mejsjalv Like you and this guy LOL!
Once told "you'll never get rehired" my reply, "can I have that in writing?"😂😂
I quit without notice at one job. They mail me my final paycheck with a notification that I was ineligible for rehire.
😂😂😂
Spot on, loyalty IS a two way street. My mom always told me that if you can’t say anything nice don’t say anything. I guess l am shutting up now, you fill in the rest.😂

I was always told to give two weeks notice. When I was a young man I was moving my family out of state to a new job in a less expensive area and gave my employer two weeks notice. I was really depending on that last two weeks pay to make the move. It made my employer very angry that I was leaving so he let me go immediately. Somehow I was able to scrape the money together to make the move. Literally limped into our new town on bald tires and totally broke. Best decision I could’ve made. Got back on our feet and even had more time with my family.
How's it going? I'm at a Toxic work place and I'm on vacation out of state and at this point I wanna go back and give my 2 weeks and wing it in the new state.
That’s actually illegal, you can’t be fired for giving a two weeks notice

Only 2 in 26 years quit effective immediately, all others I try to empower to move up, and if it’s not working there are at least 3 documented discussions why things are not working (constructive criticism and advice-to try to right the situation) before termination. Common courtesy and treating people like you would have them treat you! It’s simple, corporate has lost core values, if they ever had them. Do good everyday…
Old boss called me while I was in the new job's director's office accepting a position. I had taken a "sick day" during my 2 week notice. I excused myself, heard I didn't need to come back, walked back in with a "well what do you know, I'm available immediately!" And that was that 😂
I’ve never given two weeks, exactly like she said, they don’t give you two weeks.
They don't give us a notice when they fire us. The nerve. 🤣
They give you pay in lieu

I got laid off from a job once. There wasn't notice. Company didn't care about giving me two weeks to prepare for the change. When I walked out from behind a machine and said I was there, that smile just dropped into the biggest scowl I'd ever seen, and I got taken into a small room to get my severance package sorted out.
Short version of this: Company Loyalty is a one-way street, and it isn't going to be in your favor, ever.
It sucks, but that is why I always say that you should never do anything for the company unless it is written.
Never trust the "we will figure out later", because that is just an excuse to put you at fault and clean their hands of the problem.
If you want to me to do X, send me an email or a formal notice requesting X. A corridor ask is not going to do it.
Oh, you need me to do an extra day, and you are offering two holidays in exchange?? That is amazing, now send me the email and I will send you a confirmation. What is that? No, sorry, "we talked about it, I swear" ain't going to cut it if they try to blame me for missing a day.
...How cheap and awful. I bet she was looking to fire you for being a no-call/no-show, and for taking and "unapproved" vacation.
😒
Of course there was no notice. Lay-offs are not fun for anyone. Would you have been productive at work after getting the news? Most people aren't. Would your mood be a great boost to morale for the people who aren't leaving? Most people's wouldn't. Would you do something stupid if given the chance? Maybe not, but some people have. Companies won't take the risk. There is no reason to keep someone around when they've been laid off and most people don't want to. Your severance package is compensation for a number of damages caused by your termination without cause, including the lack of notice.
That's why you record, whenever they say anything outb of the norm.

In Germany it's written in the contract for how long in advance you may resign (about a month mostly) and if the company fires you it's up to three months in advance. BUT if you have just started a new job it's a day to day business after six months you are save😅
its funny because the subcontractor company that I worked for a co-worker of mine who was in the safety department put in his 2 weeks notice and bothered the superintendent for our company so much he just fired the poor guy the next day. It turned out he was getting hired as a safety superintendent directly for the contractor. He made our superintendent a living hell by chewing his ass off for anything unsafe that was caught by any of his workers, it was kinda fun to watch.
Hang on, explain that again? 🤔

The boss fired the new boss which he didn't know was going to be his boss and now he is paying for all the slack from the people he is still bossing because now the big boss don't play 😂😂😂😂
A friend of mine gave almost a Month's notice and 2 days later, her boss came back and said her last day was at the end of that week (2 days from now). She was moving and hadn't lined up a job and really needed the $ from the last few weeks...and her boss knew this. So he intentionally screwed her over.
Take away: Do what's best for you. Take care of yourself before making sure the company is ok.
Sounds like something that warrants a conversation with a labour lawyer. I don't know what jurisdiction this happened in, but I'm pretty sure that a case like this where I live would not go well for the employer in court. You're not going to get "make it rain" money, but probably those missing weeks of pay plus legal costs and some punitive damages to discourage similar behaviour in the future. You might even be able to find a lawyer who will take up the case on a contingency basis. It doesn't hurt to ask.
Yep the "trickle down" mafia do this kind of abuse just out of their sheer sadism cruelty total absolute power over everything in society vengeance and spite and to send their evil "message" to threaten the other employees because they can total abuse happens often. This is why don't give them any notice because if you do they will only use it to hurt you further. Everything they do is nothing but lying thieving plotting against you how to bleed you dry and destroy you and any ability to genuinely afford a home or family
Your friend was a dumb ass. Who quits and tries to move with no job lined up and no $?

Louisiana is a right to work state. Either party can terminate the employment at any time, for any reason. Even non-competes are questionable in their enforceability here, though I have no personal experience with them.

This is so good!! I love everything about it, especially the cold, hard truth!
Giving notice went away when severance pay did.
I worked for a company where one of the owners announced that they would no longer pay for unused vacation time if you quit. I replied that then there is no reason for me to give two weeks notice when I decide to go. He told me to do what I had to do. . . . A year or so later when I quit without notice, they were mad as hell.
The one time i gave two weeks notice, they were so angry they threw me out that day

@@joelgraham6820 that’s nice, but unfortunately not everyone gets a severance package…
Don't know about usa but in canada they have to give notice or pay instead of 2 weeks notice. Even holiday pay is included in the package.
Cause if you tell someone they are done in 2 weeks they will not do their work or worse sabotage the company. Note one of the few things employers will ask your previous employers is if you gave 2 weeks notice.
They have no problem canning you without any advance notice, and not always with civility. But they expect you to give them an extra two weeks of your time so as not to inconvenience THEM. I’ve always said, “the only notice they’ll get is when they notice I’m not at work anymore..”😂😉

I wonder how many people spouting off about professionalism know that today companies fire by Zoom, email or TEXT? Professionalism isn’t one sided.
We can't get our employees to show up at the office to be fire correctly for not show up for work or doing the job anymore, no choice but to let them know over zoom, email or texting.
@donw4889 the only jobs with that problem to a major extent are low pay jobs that treat their workers like they own them. My place of employment does not have that problem.
This comment should have more likes. Professionalism goes both ways.
They fire by zoom and text but they continue to pay you for two weeks or more, and give you severance. So they are basically saying, you are terminated as of two weeks from now, but during the two weeks, you have no responsibilities and no access and should not attempt to visit company premises.
Friend of mine was "fired" like that. Shame for them thats not how that works in Germany. It has to be written, as in on Paper, with a signature.
You said the quiet part out loud. Never understood why companies are allowed to ditch you without warning because “it’s an at will state” but it would be a detriment for our careers if we dare not to give ‘em two weeks to theoretically replace us (and I know they don’t because after someone quit I had to take on their work without a raise)
True! I left on short notice once, but the company had to hire two full time employees to handle my position. Within a year, the company's mismanagement caused it to go bankrupt. The owner of the company had hired all 3 of his daughters into management positions. One had an affair with the VP, one micromanaged to the point that nothing got done, and the youngest left after getting married.
This. I gave a job unofficial notice like 2 months out because I was moving states and I knew the month I would be leaving, but didn’t know my official last day. And I was like feel free to check my letter of resignation that I submitted two weeks ago to check the date when you get in. 😂
Because they are legally required to pay into unemployment.
Is it that they "won't" or "can't"
