This type of video is what we need more of. Orks are commonly capable of building additional units from left over bitz but you rarely see videos on it.
Jay, imma be honest, as soon as you put the woolly stuff on, i thought it looked kinda crap. BUT BLOODY HELL! Your paintjob has entirely changed my mind, especially the work in with the lore. Your perseverance and creativity is what really makes your videos f***ing AWESOME! Keep up the fantastic work!!
Neat idea. I just wish the fluff you used had smaller fibers, so it'd sell smoke better. To me it kinda looks like furball or some weird plant fibers and vines. Still looks great!
I think I agree. Although the models do look good, in my opinion they would look even better with a thinner fiber and less of it, something more whispy, bto perhaps look more like smoke. Nevertheless, this shows you need to trust the process as they do look good.
Initially I was so skeptical about the fluff but have to say it really did come together with that last darkening down with the more putrid brown color. Really great outside-the-box thinking. Great stuff as usual!
For next Monday's video, how about a tutorial on Painting a Crimson Fist. I first got into 40k way back when Rogue Trader was released. The cover artwork by John Sibbick captured my imagination but the teenage me struggled to paint the RTB01 space marines to the standard I wanted. Now with the release of the Horus Heresy, the original marines have been re-designed and proportioned and look fantastic. I'd love to see you paint up a modern MK VI space marine but keep the vibe of the old school judge dredd comic book style with lots of 'kill' and 'death' grafitti over the armour.
The only thing that would've made this more perfect is if it had been sponsored by Manscaped lol But genuinely, it turned out great! love these kinds of kitbashes using up the alt/extra bits
Rather than chimney, the word spiracle is the word you are looking for. The tyranids look like they have exoskeletons and they seem to be arthropods, so spiracle is appropriate.
Honestly I'm really glad the bits replacement wasn't just a 3d print of the actual model's body. Always fun to see creative choices and I think you're onto something with the smoke
The fluff is getting most of the attention but also want to call attention to those beads being used to look like bubbles about to pop. Definitely stealing that idea!
Feel like smoke made out of green stuff or milliput, or even 3d printed, would have ended with a much nicer effect, personally find the bundle of fluff super distracting from the otherwise lovely paintjob
You know what else produces a nasty gas? That’s right someone else’s patreon, our patreon is never smelly!! At first I was like I don’t know how that’s gonna work with the stuffing. I am impressed!! Look amazing!! Thanks gents!! Fantastic as always!!!

Since I started with Orks, I can't help but wholeheartedly cheer you on! This is fantastic, and a fun look at an interesting dilemma. With the price of kits, I don't blame ya! I do admit, I think the fluff could have been teased out more, make it more of a whispy cloud, but it works and that is what matters. They're free! How can you complain?
Great video again. I used this idea to double my hive tyrants. Its good to know the venom/zoan thropes box can get the same treatment. I think I know what box I am getting next now
I went for the magnetization option for my 6 zoan/venomthropes. Honestly not too difficult, but I didn't have a good replacement for the smokestacks on the venoms so I just left them off. The sculpted balls are a really good replacement
Nice build. But I wonder why you did not take some parts of the sprue and some green stuff (whatever) to model some of those smake-stack spines of the Venomthrope? These are a defining part of the creature as the spore clouds emit from them. You could even try to let the smoke come from those.
For my extra venom bits. I 3d printed some tails and made 3 venom's, then used the body's and my hive guard bits and some seashells to make some biovores. I still need to finish those.
I dont think the smoke looks right. The issue with cotton is that it gets all "ropey" when you paint it. I think it would've looked better to either sculpt the smoke or kitbash them so they look more balloon-ish
Speaking of overpriced dual-build tyranid kits, I can’t wait to see you do this with the toxicrene/malaceptor kit :D Seriously though, nice vid - though I’ve been putting it off, I’ve been planning on doing something like this with my own bugs and seeing your process has inspired me to get started!
Long time lurker, occasional commenter. Love the videos, particularly your painting ones. I really enjoyed this one and would love to see some more full-on kit bashing videos
There’s so many ways to make this kit into 6 models instead of 2 I used very few parts and some green stuff and also got a good result I love yours I did custom zoanthropes not venoms
Im one of them...I bought 1 box of these when I joined up, same purchase as my Leviathon box....ahhhh what a glorious year...8000 points of tyanids annndddd 6 other armies....ye a h. Alot a balls
Best way is to cast the missing parts with blue stuff and Apoxie Sculpt. Though, if you did that on UA-cam, then James Workshop would send his goons after you and we wouldn't want that because you are a great dude.
I think your Venomthrope models look better than the concept art. I like the smoke coming from the bottom, like there's so much going on inside that you can't see. So creepy. Overall great use of the extra bits from an insanely expensive kit.
I know this would be better posted on a Black Templars video but may I ask where you get the nameplates? I mightve missed if you make them yourself or if you buy them? Thanks
back in the day you could buy a skyray for the same price of a hammerhead and still get the hammerhead bits along with the skyray bits, while laughing at people who just bought the hammerhead kit. this was how you got a good deal, not by being a pro modeler and greenstuff sculptor to create bodies for leftover bits - you just rewarded yourself through your talents, than by doing some simple trick.
take a shot each time jay says balls
Lol! Couldn't get more than 2.40 mins in before I had to stop from laughing.
balls
Not all balls are created equal
I press down on my balls to make them flat
Bro you would die
This type of video is what we need more of. Orks are commonly capable of building additional units from left over bitz but you rarely see videos on it.
I think Orcs (and Chaos dudes) can be quite obvious for kitbasher, but this has a lot of innovative design to it.
agreed
This video is the definiton of "trust the process"
Jay, imma be honest, as soon as you put the woolly stuff on, i thought it looked kinda crap. BUT BLOODY HELL! Your paintjob has entirely changed my mind, especially the work in with the lore. Your perseverance and creativity is what really makes your videos f***ing AWESOME! Keep up the fantastic work!!
Unfortunately, I can't unsee giant balls of pubes. I think a finer stuffing would have been better or way less of it
Neat idea. I just wish the fluff you used had smaller fibers, so it'd sell smoke better. To me it kinda looks like furball or some weird plant fibers and vines. Still looks great!
I like how it turned out in the end, but would also be interested in seeing the same done with something like cotton balls maybe
I think I agree. Although the models do look good, in my opinion they would look even better with a thinner fiber and less of it, something more whispy, bto perhaps look more like smoke. Nevertheless, this shows you need to trust the process as they do look good.
Agree. These are a little to sheepish for me
Im not sure I dig that smoke effect. But my collection is full of weird convertions only I appreciate, so I understand. Nice paint job as usual!!
Initially I was so skeptical about the fluff but have to say it really did come together with that last darkening down with the more putrid brown color. Really great outside-the-box thinking. Great stuff as usual!
6:43 "They're supposed to be constantly obscured by clouds of smoke" just run big wads of that black fluff on jungle bases! 😂

And paint them while listening to Bolt Thrower
Youve been in the hobby longer than Jay has been alive dude 😂
Love that idea
Sam Lenz just painted one and he was talking about RTB01 SM
@Te-00091take your meds
I love how much fun Jay has with the word "balls".
You love to see Tyranids getting some love, can't wait for more Tyranids content!
Your Tangrowth is evolving!
It evolved into a Venomthrope!
The only thing that would've made this more perfect is if it had been sponsored by Manscaped lol
But genuinely, it turned out great! love these kinds of kitbashes using up the alt/extra bits
My friend has been obsessed with getting these, sent this video his way so he can maximize his kits when he gets them, thanks for making this!
Rather than chimney, the word spiracle is the word you are looking for. The tyranids look like they have exoskeletons and they seem to be arthropods, so spiracle is appropriate.
I'm a simple man, I see a new EOB video posted, I immediately click play.
Yes
Same
I've been LOOKING for a good way to turn my leftover Venomthrope bits into actual Venomthropes
Always a good day when I don’t have to watch another space marine get painted😂
Another option - 3d print the missing parts. You can extend a suprising number of kits this way
Where do you get them though?
Honestly I'm really glad the bits replacement wasn't just a 3d print of the actual model's body. Always fun to see creative choices and I think you're onto something with the smoke
"The skin is being pulled tight over the balls." - EonsOfBattle 2024
I love how uniquely different the venomthropes turned out. Plus, the fart cloud as a touch is chef's kiss
I've never played Warhammer and probably never will, but I always enjoy watching your crafting videos!
The fluff is getting most of the attention but also want to call attention to those beads being used to look like bubbles about to pop. Definitely stealing that idea!
Feel like smoke made out of green stuff or milliput, or even 3d printed, would have ended with a much nicer effect, personally find the bundle of fluff super distracting from the otherwise lovely paintjob
very happy to see more tyranid stuff!! great video
You know what else produces a nasty gas? That’s right someone else’s patreon, our patreon is never smelly!! At first I was like I don’t know how that’s gonna work with the stuffing. I am impressed!! Look amazing!! Thanks gents!! Fantastic as always!!!
Well this is absolutely getting saved. Those look awesome, im gonna have to buy some black fluff and balllls.
Such a great conversion! I wasn't sold initially on the fluff you used for their bodies, but in the end they looked great!
I love this! I made a second beast of nurgle with the spare parts in the box and some clay and green stuff !
I'm totally convinced that Jay went through all of this just because he wanted to say ball jokes. 😂
We love watching you make and paint these miniatures. Please let us see you play them on table top. We don’t care if you lose.
I’ve too have two box’s not made yet, waiting for a bro to 3d print parts for me so I too can have venoms. Love ya vid!❤

You the goat, kitbash Raptors or Space Sharks ? 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
I love this, I want to go back to my Nids one day, I let my teen son enjoy building the Leviathan half & have fun creating his own swarm.
Like many others I was at first not so sure. At the end though I am a true believer in the puffy foggy venom thropes! Great job they look amazing!
Great video and a perfect way to get more from an expensive kit!
Expensive is right. 80 bucks for 3 Models? That's mechanicus money right there.
That’s nice. I made tentacles from greenstuff for mine.
I don't play Warhammer, or do anything with minis at all, but gosh dang your videos are addictive.
These look dope! And a great way to use all the extra bits tyranids come with
“A plus” on the detailed explanation of how you turned balls into the features you needed 😂
Neato.
. Felt like a Bob Ross moment. "WTH are you making? Ooooh I get it!"
Ooh, here 15 minutes after drop! I don't love nids, but sharing this with the bestie that does, thx!
Great video again. I used this idea to double my hive tyrants. Its good to know the venom/zoan thropes box can get the same treatment. I think I know what box I am getting next now
Kitbashing videos are by far my favourite
Very cool. Thanks for sharing!
I went for the magnetization option for my 6 zoan/venomthropes. Honestly not too difficult, but I didn't have a good replacement for the smokestacks on the venoms so I just left them off. The sculpted balls are a really good replacement
That's a great idea Jay.
Love EOB so much!, bring on some ideas for world eaters!
3d printer nid parts. I got a tyrant like torso, and just used leftover flying tyrant parts after making a standard one.
I did kinda the same thing using Reaper's Bathalian Centurion bodies. They turned out pretty good.
Nice build. But I wonder why you did not take some parts of the sprue and some green stuff (whatever) to model some of those smake-stack spines of the Venomthrope? These are a defining part of the creature as the spore clouds emit from them. You could even try to let the smoke come from those.

Yeah 3d printing or Casting copies of the tail Sections would be worth it for stuff like this
I love tyranid kitbashing, recently made a chaos night swarmlord.
I dont think the smoke looks right. The issue with cotton is that it gets all "ropey" when you paint it. I think it would've looked better to either sculpt the smoke or kitbash them so they look more balloon-ish
I love the idea i might try to do this with something other than fluff 3d printed cloud, or tail maybe
Speaking of overpriced dual-build tyranid kits, I can’t wait to see you do this with the toxicrene/malaceptor kit :D
Seriously though, nice vid - though I’ve been putting it off, I’ve been planning on doing something like this with my own bugs and seeing your process has inspired me to get started!
Balls and Tentacles… 😊
Great Job though! I just build the Lictor Model Yesterday and there are also tons of parts leftover. Maybe have a look.
How's the dark eldar army coming along since the last video? Will we be getting another one soon?
Long time lurker, occasional commenter. Love the videos, particularly your painting ones. I really enjoyed this one and would love to see some more full-on kit bashing videos
I don't know man... The fluffy stuff looks more like moss growing out of them than smoke billowing out.
There’s so many ways to make this kit into 6 models instead of 2 I used very few parts and some green stuff and also got a good result I love yours I did custom zoanthropes not venoms
Nice to see your post 👍👍
Incredible. Seriously.
Im one of them...I bought 1 box of these when I joined up, same purchase as my Leviathon box....ahhhh what a glorious year...8000 points of tyanids annndddd 6 other armies....ye a h. Alot a balls
not feeling the fluff, but the paint jobs on these are insanely good looking!
They look awesome! Do you have a list of the exact materials you used for the basing and the fluff?
Missed opportunity to have an ad for manscaped

Another option would be using bluestuff to make a few extra copies of the wormy bodies and tails and just building both kits normally.
This, recast those extra body parts.
Great vid with a great tip. Huzza.
Why not try to do some Minotaurs. Hella cool colour scheme and some pretty wild lore.
Jay, those balls with miluput are so good! Love the jokes but seriously, they look amazing. You're sculpting game is so strong!
Looks great man!
Is there a way to create the style of airbrushing the base ( black and white) without an airbrush?
Hey Jay, where did you get the black polyester pillow stuffing?
I know this would be better posted on a Black Templars video but may I ask where you get the nameplates? I mightve missed if you make them yourself or if you buy them? Thanks
Cool tip Jay thanx
back in the day you could buy a skyray for the same price of a hammerhead and still get the hammerhead bits along with the skyray bits, while laughing at people who just bought the hammerhead kit. this was how you got a good deal, not by being a pro modeler and greenstuff sculptor to create bodies for leftover bits - you just rewarded yourself through your talents, than by doing some simple trick.
Rip the old carnifex box of 3. Theybhavent been in stock for a while now but with the righr conversions and dedication you can make 6 carnifexs.
I’m gonna be completely honest man. They look like they all just have huge bushes…
Yay more tyranids content ❤
I’ve built the venomthropes any tips to build a zoanathrope from the bits
I noticed you might be able to do this with Lictors having 3 variants in one box
I wonder if It would look good with using moss from Hobby Lobby?
Love this ❤ keep up the work brother 🔥👏
Great video! (I'm 0.02 in) 👍
sudden intrusive thought:
I'm jealous of your cuticles
I also suspect when they update Leagues of Votann every thing will be sold out if I want to expand my army from 2K + to 3K.
any ideas on working with fluff without an airbrush?
Can we have a studio tour Jay?
Genius, man!
Is one of the Zoanthropes supposed to have a horn and protrusion on his back? Or, is that optional?
thx for the inspiration ! can someone tell me how this cork is made from ? thx
Those are some great looking balls
That's a really cool idea
cool idea
