Liquid filled gage will read low when hot. Good gages will have pressure relief valve on them.
this reminds me of my favorite car, a gutted out 75 nova with3.08 gears, 4 speed, a 69 327, 1.20 dome pistons, stock double hump heads, the biggest hydraulic cam in the Crane cam book in 1987, a Weiand single plane intake, and a Holley 850 double pumper. that car was a Saginaw's worst nightmare but it was fast as hell.
Wow that sounds good when your rowing through the gears
Congrats on finding the gremlin that was pestering you, and it's on to the good times from here on out.
Nice job you did on honing cylinders out, followed by pistons, rings, and valves. Compression should actually go up after few more heat cycles, depending on what rings are made, as the get seated in good.
As far as the comment about 327's, and blow by, I do believe you corrected the cause of that, and even explained it to where, even a small child could understand the reason they use to do that, as well as the fix you did to cure that issue.
That's a bad ass nova. Been following this build from the beginning!
I just found your show this evening , because I’m in the market to get a nova. I’ve wanted one since I was 16 years old now 51. I really enjoy your nova and your show. Thanks
Just do it dude. If I could buy a cheap shell at 33 and make it drive in 30 days you can do the same at 51.
Looking forward to seeing you guys race the Nova with the 327 and the 4 speed.
How does this channel Not have more subscribers?! Nothing beats home brew mechanics on a budget.
Woo hoo!🤘 Love it when a issue is found and fixed! 👍
I've heard my dad talk about the 327's back in the 60's being mean. He drove a brand new 68 Chevelle with a 396 and a 4 speed, so if he said the 327 would run, it would run. The Nova's and Camaro's were pretty much the perfect vehicles for that engine. He also had a 68 Camaro with a 327 and a 3 speed. It wasnt one of the hot, high compression engines though. Good job Ryan. I hope you got her straightened out, and that she continues to run like a scalded cat. (As we say down here in Tennessee) 😄
Awesome! Nothing better than a ratty Nova with a stout 327 and 4speed. You rock!
That beginning sound made my ears so happy. I have a 1972 Nova and what you have done is exactly what I have in mind.
That sounds amazing, good job well done 👍
Sounds good even though you think it could run better. That last run at night seemed as though you have it figured out. Good job.
Love it , I used to hammer those throttles on them old chevys back when I was a teenager 1975 , my first car was 1967 nova 2 door ,my brother and I built a 350 w 11. 1 pistons camel hump heads came holley carb bad to the bone gwhen I was 17 years young.61 now two raised children 41year anniversary still working on junk n having great time .thanks for sharing, great memories of small block n Muncie o yea.God bless yall real good.
So in love with the Nova! Keep making videos on it showing your progress, updates, improvements and of course when you drag it!
Very good sounds!!! Congrats!!
327 power!
Another great video guys. Love the nova. Can't wait for your drag strip to open again.
Great video, glad you got it fixed! This is pretty much what my Stude's 350 has been doing all summer, jet changes haven't helped.
I would like to share a little Cam and compression trick we have been using for 40 plus years. Put the cam in straight up on the timing chain, do a compression test. Then keep advancing the cam two degrees until you reach the highest cranking compression. That is the optimal setting, unless of course you are trying to dial into Cam specifically for low end or top end. We used to use a 9-way adjustable cloy's timing chain, you know most of them are three-way adjustable. But it's a neat trick and it definitely helps Street engines. Piston and valve clearance issues usually are not a problem whatsoever when you're talking mild Street stuff with an old school small block Chevy. Of course if you get into big valve heads, 550 lift cams while trying to use stock type Pistons then you could possibly crash a intake valves into a piston especially if you float the valves over revving. I just subscribed to your channel, great videos, very entertaining and it's something I can watch with my teenage daughter that is in the cars. Thanks again and have a great upcoming 2023
Keep it up! Always entertaining videos from you two.
Good deal.i had same issue and it was my spark. I thought it was my new avs2 but I had cam change, heads and went from tbi to carb but used pretty much the same wires from distributor to activate the motor but the computer would not let me rev past 2500rpm. Bought dui distributor and it now a beast. AWESOME post. 👍😎 keep building.
That’s awesome bud.I have always loved the novas 💪👍
I'm glad to hear how your327 sounds so I have a real good idea of what mine's like yours sounds amazing like it! Can't wait till the next video!
Sounds awesome!
Good lord that thing looks fun!
Sounds good boys! Can’t wait to see it doing high rpm burnouts! 😎👍🏻
Awesome this car roaring properly now 👍
"what was that noise" was your pocket knife falling off of the intake manifold lol i spotted it in the clip before and thought to myself damn that probably got forgotten there lol. Awesome content guys keep doing what you do. Love the nova content.
glad it is better now good going
Sure like the channel. One thing, 160 psi is great for a daily driver. But you're optimal cranking pressure for a hot rod like this should be 190 or so. If you go with a bigger overlap cam your cylinder pressure will drop down into the low 150s or even the 140s. Might I suggest some angle milled heads? Thanks again for the cool vids!
Great job. Old cars and old fuel tanks don't mix.
Great job getting the junker pulling hard thru 6500. 👍
Just found this channel, love it
Love the nova content !!
great content cnat wiat for more
Listen to that thing sing!
Damn makes me wanna go work on mine
Great video
Will you be taking the finished product to the drag strip now? Should go 13s now. Keep up the Awsome videos.
When are you guys going back to the strip? GL with the defective block!!
Gee whiz man your working in the mud lol always enjoy ur videos 👍
Honey call the cops. I think that damn guy in the nova is screaming up the road again!!! lol 👍
All of could think of during the intro is "In today's episode we take a quick trip to Mexico."
My buddies motor was just doing that lean at high RPM on the dyno. He got a new Holley with air bleeds and all the tricks and they still couldn’t tune it out
Dear Holley please sponsor these fellows...its cold up their yo
Use "Alum" to ge the broken drill bit out of alluminum metering block. It eats Steel and has no effect on aluminum.. It can be found in canning supplys.. For Real ! Nice drivetrain Guys !
The mighty 327
get rid of the vacuum secondary carb. or put a secondary metering block kit in it. never mind, you fixed it.
Did you adjust the floats
how were they able to tell their fuel was leaning out. did they just look at their gauges or was there something else
1/4 mile right meow!!!
Well what was the verdict on the return of the metering block, did they accept the drill bit return?
Yes, full refund.
@@NotRodShop good deal 👍
Love the project Nova 👍 I have a 72 with a 350 and the same sportsman heads. I really need to get an air/fuel meter. What would you recommend?
www.innovatemotorsports.com/products/db.php
Thank you
Put an LS in that 😃
Will this work if doing an LS swap?
Sounds like.........................FUN
Put a electric fuel pump and a good regulator with each bowl having its own line from the regulator and run 7psi it will keep fuel in the bowl.. you are emptying the secondary bowl bcuz the pump can't keep up
What fuel pump you running? What are your primary and secondary jets?
www.summitracing.com/parts/edl-1721 72 Front, 82 Rear
@@NotRodShop thanks! I was ask for your jets... 🤣
Quick question, just curious whats with all the bolts coming through your hood?
It's supposed to have hood louvers but I haven't bought them yet.
What Make & Model is that jack (and How Much) that you used on the Fuel Tank?
That's just a motorcycle jack. That's really all I know about it.
Can actually hear the 4 barrels open! You don't get that with fuel injection.
wish vidss was longer :)
Where did you get your fuel tank from? I have a 72 that I am restoring and would rather get one that comes recommended from someone that used it.
www.summitracing.com/parts/oer-ft2005a Works good
@@NotRodShop thanks, I really appreciate it!
man, i'm not sure i've seen such even results on a compression test.
I did away with the rock and put bigger fuel line on
Time for spray
She sounds mean!
Siguiente video por favor aaaaaaa😜😜😜
Mate I thought you were putting a cage in the nova months ago..
Fuel line size
Nope, keep watching.
Why are you using a mechanical fuel pump?
Cheap
You need to learn how to power shift before we go for time trials, and a good set of slicks.Yeah, you cant be letting up on the go fast pedal during gear changes,no how no way
need to maintain 7 to 9 psi at carb need a better fuel pump and regulator setup then fuel line size becomes a restriction
GET A NEW CARB DUDE
What some consider fast
Love the nova content!
