From Keith Jones retired drummer, Cornwall. At 70 still use these DTX drums for practice routine, always a good sound from Yamaha. God Bless all those who work on drum equipment. Peace and love (KJ).
My honest opinion on this drum set which I have owned in something around 3-4 years now is: it works well but the sounds aren’t optimal and I don’t like the kick pedal because it isn’t anywhere near an acoustic drum set so it’s really different when you try a real one. Also, this drum set is really small so it’s sometimes a bit weird to play on it. But other then that, a great drum set for the price, I don’t think you’d get any better drum sets for the same price, so that’s good. I would rate it a 7/10.
Yeah, it does look quite small. I have a kt2-kat kit and it is Way Bigger then this Yamaha kit. Thing is though, the Kat's parts are way too Loud, and I am a tenant, so I can only play the thing at very certain times. When I say Loud,I mean, even when using the input to have the drum sounds play into the headphones, the loud bap bap bap clapping sound that the plasticized cymbals and hi-hat make. The Toms and snare are nicely rubberized,so they make a very minimized and nicely muffled sound. I'm guessing that the Yamaha kit has rubberized padding on all the parts of the drum-kit..?
Thanks for asking, it was great but I have moved up now to a used DTX532K. The 450K was brilliant to learn on and I would recommend it to anyone just starting or with limited space.
Drum Den thanks for your advice, i think i will take 450k. Cause i dont have any space in my room. Btw do you have any issue if you play fast tempo with double pedal? I mean some people said it will miss some of bass sound if we play in high tempo (ex: rock or metal)
Someone can help me? I have the same drum and idk what happened, cause my drum doesn’t work anymore. If I press the metronome the click come out. I tested everything, and I think the problem probably is something in the brain.. the only way that I can use the drum is for usb using app.
Hey I need some help and there's lot of drum experts here, I have been playing song 1 and one day, the song changed and I can't figure out how to change it back to the original.
The footpedal isn't all that quiet through my basement ceiling. Just ask the person who sleeps down there. However, it's still an awesome kit for the money that I can't recommend enough.
James Grice since you wrote that comment a year ago you probably know but just in case You don't need the app you can do the customizing through the module it just is a bit harder but easy to understand
PidgetteWest the main difference is the pedals.400 comes with the ku100 silent pedals where 430 comes with kp65 tower and kick pedal plus hh65 hi hat controller.Thats about it.
How do you get that loud crisp closed Hi Hat sound? Mine is so low in volume that all I hear is the stick hitting rubber. I've turned up volume and sensitivity.
Hello, Dravon! Super simple! To adjust the sensitivity of the entire kit, hold down the "kit" button and use the volume up and down buttons to adjust sensitivity up or down. Also, here is a link to the manual: usa.yamaha.com/files/download/other_assets/4/713374/dtx400k430k450k_en_om_d0.pdf Thanks for the interest! Please help me, my drums arent making any sound. I have tried changing the kits but I can’t hear anything. It’s not the speakers because the cymbals are working just fine. Can you give me some settings for the drums?
Hi, Akshata. Sorry to hear about the issue. I would suggest giving us a call to get with our Tech Support team. They are fully equipped to be able to help out with technical issues that you run into with your gear. Thanks for reaching out! Mike Wuchter, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1789
Hello, video rate! The drum module itself has a headphone output, as well as outputs for speakers. And yes, you can plug it into an amplifier. It does not have built-in speakers. Thanks for the interest! Cody Kraus, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1766, cody_kraus@sweetwater.com
Zidan 27 You don't get a cable with the kit. Yamaha do sell one, the Yamaha I-UX1, and it's only £58!!! Or you can get an 8 pin camera adapter off E-Bay for around £3 and it works just as well.
Zidan 27 You can connect an ipad, iPhone or I pod touch to the module via the Yamaha iux-1 midi interface cable available on Yamaha, but it's TOO PRICEY. BUt, there is a way you can make your own iux-1.What you need:- Standard printer cable(with usb host to usb ), just google printer cable and you will get options.- An Apple camera connection adapter (google it for images and prices). This will be connected to the usb side.- And finally, an Ipad!, you just have to connect the ipad to the lightning cable and you have a midid cable made for 1/3 the price of the iux-1 or if you already have the components, for free!Hope this helps, Arvin
Hi, Fotis! The sound module can absolutely connect to a Windows computer via USB for both audio and MIDI recording. Thanks for your interest! Mike Wuchter, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1789
This kit has its ups and downs Ups- double bass pedal, affordable, and compact Downs-cymbal sounds aren't great, every time I try to switch my sounds for them it makes the cymbals a kick drum, and my bass Pedal cut partway out after 2 days
P.S. please help me with my cymbals I did everything in the manual correctly and I can't switch it. Also the real reason I have this is because my acoustic kit bugged the neighbors and I can't play it that much anymore
yes you can... check the compatibility pdf download under "support" on this page: usa.yamaha.com/products/musical-instruments/drums/el-drums/snare-pads/xp80/
Wow!!! Yamaha has flooded UA-cam with their own payed reviews. Ive checked out 20 videos for the DTX400 and all were made by Yamaha or an affiliate. It looks like an alright budget kit so why do they go for the "Only Yamaha can talk abut yamaha" campaign? All I want is an honest review. I dont ask for much but the truth will suit me fine
The cymbals on all the Yamaha kits sound processed and not real. On the other hand Roland's kits so sound real! Even the Td-1 cymbals sound like real cymbals. So trust me if you want a real sounding electronic kit go with Roland BC I have the Td-30
Thanks for the question, Wolfie. You would use a USB to iOS device or Android device to connect to the drumset and use the 2 apps that work with it. Thanks for your interest, and let me know if I can help further. Derek Senestraro, Senior Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1243

Just bought one. I love it, the neighbors upstairs don't even know I own it and I was playing till midnight
Instablaster
In addition to the quality of this demo, it's always awesome to see a drummer using the marching grip in his/her left hand.
It’s a guy
Thanks, Steezy boi008. I was talking about drummers in general.
ShreadTheWeapon oh lol my bad 😂😂😂
I feel like my paradiddles are much better with the ole’ traditional grip vs matched grip

@@robertdecker4780 it sure does. Probably the quietest kit for the dollar
Do you have a video review? Yamaha seems to have flooded UA-cam with their own videos

Ironic, dude named Roland commenting on a Yamaha Vdrum video.

Damn this demo convinced me to finnaly buy it !
The footpedal isn't all that quiet through my basement ceiling. Just ask the person who sleeps down there. However, it's still an awesome kit for the money that I can't recommend enough.
Put it on a cushioned foam mat
Can you do all the customisation without the app? I don't have an IOS device.
James Grice since you wrote that comment a year ago

You don't need the app you can do the customizing through the module it just is a bit harder but easy to understand

I have a question cen I record wat I’m playing
Can you upgrade the crash to be able to choke it.
what's the difference between the 400k and the 430k I just don't know, the name? the pedals?
PidgetteWest the main difference is the pedals.400 comes with the ku100 silent pedals where 430 comes with kp65 tower and kick pedal plus hh65 hi hat controller.Thats about it.
How large is this kit? I have a very small room has a couch that folds out into a bed and takes up most of my room.
Try checking Yamaha's website. I'm pretty sure they detail a rectangular area in which a specific drum kit will fit in its standard form.
Yo! Steve Fisher!!!
app is outdated drum beats feature wasn't found , app wouldn't work on dell tablet ... 2021 unsupported ...

Where does the sound come out? A built in speaker? Or can you plug it into a guitar amp to make it louder for performing?

Is it possible that yamaha might discontinue the app? Coz i'm thinking of buying the kit and i don't want to get screwed. What do you guys think?

What type of iPad floor stand is that?
can i use the hi hat pedal as second bass pedal. so that i can play double bass
yes you can
do you have to use mac products or can i use my pc or android
Nice review....Are the apps available on google play??
Moses Rodriguez no :-/
Moses Rodriguez Sorry they are not. You will have to buy an ios device or there is a possibility of the apps to be run on PC.
Is this drum kit foldable ? I live in a small studio apartment and I want a drum kit to practice on my own.
It’s great for that.Very portable
How can I connect my iPad? Is the cable connector included with the kit?

Arvin Sam Great, thanks M8
is the ride cymbal dual zone or single zone?
Can I add a RHH ???
can you actually midi it in a recording windows software ,or is it strictly independant and ipad connectable?
Hi, Fotis! The sound module can absolutely connect to a Windows computer via USB for both audio and MIDI recording.

Muy bueno ...seria bueno si pudieran subtitularlo en español...gracias..Saludos desde Mendoza -Argentina
I would like to know if you can add more triggers to it?
I'm pretty sure you can add more but I'm not sure how many. I think you can only add either 1 cymbal or 1 pad.
How much is the box weight ?
Is it possible to add "real" songs to Song Beats, just as like "Animals" from "Maroon 5" or like "How Will I Know" from Whitney?
This kit has its ups and downs
Ups- double bass pedal,affordable,and compact
Downs-cymbal sounds aren't great, every time I try to switch my sounds for them it makes the cymbals a kick drum, and my bass Pedal cut partway out after 2 days

can I add a third cymbal?
Matthew Momsen yes! You can.
I Stole Your Waffles through what input?
he said great 150 times so got to be great
Can u import ur own songs?
Yes you can import your own WAV files and mute the drum tracks.
Cool drum set but sucks big time that it doesn't also use Android.

Because veryone is a milionaire
Needs more cowbell.
that i-UX1 have is quite pricey for a cable..
Ah, just iOS? Ever hear of Android?I actually believe they have a couple of users, not many, but a few.
that cymbal noise -_-
He always seem to me when he speaks like he is just about biting a big donut. No offense of course. He is great btw
The crash sounds like crap
The drum kit sounds very good but the ride sounds like pure crap
Yeah, i have this kit and the ride is the only thing thats not that good.
Al Coholic wdym by ride?
BP Productions The cymbal furthest to the right.
can't you change the sound with the app? And is there a rim zone that comes standard with it?
Al Coholic oh yeah yeah im getting this kit
The guy doing the demo is rushing the entire time...unwatchable.
How do you connect the app to the set?
Thanks for the question, Wolfie. You would use a USB to iOS device or Android device to connect to the drumset and use the 2 apps that work with it.
Thanks for your interest, and let me know if I can help further.
