Ryan, couple of tips about the dry brushing: 1) Your brush is still far too wet. Wipe the brush until you see no more paint coming off on the paper. (And don't go over the paint again after wiping it off first...) 2) Instead of 'painting' it on with the brush, 'flick' the (stiff) brush over the raised detail. This results in a more natural effect. 3) Do not overdo it and: build up the effect gradually all over the model/piece and keep it subtle. Happy modelling!!

for the decals i have used washing up liquid to place the decal sometimes it is real good for the placement....but i use microscale to "burn" the decal on to the model.......

Hey guys, thanks for demoing paint techniques on the show. Ryan, from our end the models looking great. I have a question: I just finished my first PG kit (an Rx 78-2), and the experience was daunting. However, it's also an older kit. I was wondering if newer perfect grades were a little less obnoxious/intimidating. Sid mentioned the Strike Gundam, can anybody reading this also share their thoughts?
Here in the US, we have Micro Set and Micro Sol as alternatives to Mark Setter/Mark Softer. I'm not quite sure how they compare, but I figured I'd throw that out there.
Hey Ryan, if u dont mind me making a suggestion for the bullet holes and damaged areas. Use a real touch marker and scribble around the area of the holes. Then use a cotton swab to smear the ink outward or circular motion to make a burn effect around them. Or you can use black pastel chalk by rubbing a swab on the chalk then using the same technique as with the marker. Try it, you'll be impressed with yourself.
To the guy worrying about top coat durability; spray your parts with a gloss coat first. Gloss is much more durable than flat. Then you can put a flat coat on top of the gloss for the flat finish.
Hey Sydney and Ryan. I love gunpla and love your show. I've seen almost every episode and I've been wondering if you can paint your frame for your MG. I know you can paint the armor parts but will painting the frame affect its articulation? Thanks for the show and tips
I don't think you want to be dipping the same brush into two different paints Ryan. But for as first time at dry brushing it's pretty good. I use a crappy, cheap brush that's all frayed. It gives me a really scrathed up quality when I dry brush paint chipping. Also, if you want to weather the edges of something, just dap the edge with the flat side of the brush
Actually Syd, the FAU has a combination of both the ver ka parts and ova parts. FAU doesn't have the ova single piece v fin and head vulcan, however it does have the ova leg that improves the articulation. It doesn't have the R runner because the F runner has been recast with the new ova leg mold. Other then that good episode, looking forward to ur review on RG Destiny.

It would be great if you guys could build the Valvrave-1. It looks like a really good kit and the Mecha has a great design. I also have a question about panel lining. I have been using gundam markers for a while but have come to a crossroads between using the grey and the black for most of the white on my kits. Which do you guys think does better or do you have a preference between the two for your kits? Would be really great to see the difference on the same kit on the show.
Hey Syd and Ryan, I'm a huge fan of gundam wing and i just recently started collecting the wing MG kits as well as the PG wing zero custom. while building my wing zero custom, i didnt do the wiring correctly and was wondering you guys could tell me what kind of wires i need to get for replacements and if i can buy them from hlj. also, i was wondering if you guys sell action bases that work for perfect grades. i've only seen the ones that come with the PG strike freedom and 00 Raiser so far.

The question is do you know if its coming back or if I saw it to late? And do you know if HLJ ships to Costa Rica (in Central America)? thanks(:
Right i have a question for you guys, I've got a MG 1/100 Gundam Zeta 2.0 which I've yet to put together but have read that your best not doing the transformation as the joints get weaker and such. So I'm going to leave it in MS mode but was wondering what other cheaper kit i could get to have a waverider mode, i don't want to buy another 2.0 just for that and the videos I've seen of other kits like the 1/144 versions seem a bit flimsy.(more so the non grades) Thanks!

In episode 32 Syd goes through a Zoids manual while building a kit, not sure if it covers what you want though.

MG Geara Doga's LED is actually pink. But I agree, most UC kits will use red LEDs and a red one doesn't look bad for an MG Geara Doga.

They cheaped out on the shield. They could have done that in a clear blue and been done with it. It still looks really good though.
