My dad used to describe West Indian team the same way you have described here. Absolutely no difference. I think one person you probably missed out was I think one generation before was Wes Hall (he was a master at terrorizing batsmen) as well. The main difference between West Indies and other bowling - was no sledging and absolute gentlemanly way of playing and letting skill do all the talk - I have nothing but respect!

The only time I wished them to lose a match was 1983 Prudential WC final. 70-80s is really a golden generation in cricket great batsmen and equally talented bowlers. However, their intention was not to bowl good deliveries and get the wicket, but to bowl to render the batsman wounded. That was an ugly trick, lacking any sportsmanship. But, the windies bowlers were really excellent and were not applying any such cheap tactics to get the wicket.

All are specialists in their respective roles. Four fearsome bowlers (Marshall, Robert s, Holding & Garner), specialist openers (Greenidge & Haynes), middle order batsmen (Loyd, Richards & Logie), Wicket keeper (Dujon) & Larry Homes. Ya! I watched in Jan 1975, the Legend Sir Andy Roberts in action at Chepauk ground in person. Admiring, Cool but Menacing, gentle action... The cartwheeling of Karshan Ghavri's stemps to Derrick Murray, the Wicket keeper, still in my eyes. Unforgettable experience of Cricket, the guts, skill and determination of Legend Gundappa Vishwanath scoring unbeaten 97 against the super fast legend's onslaught (seven wickets), the ball was almost invisible. In fact, I was a bit disappointed and tired as I was unable to see the ball. Then guessed it with batsmen's reactions ( mostly miserable). One thing Cheeka they were true cricketers had guts to play WITHOUT HELMET OR HEADGEAR against the jaws of death. Above all NO BIG MONEY. Thanks a lot for your rewind of smart memories. 👌👍👏😊🙏
I have seen lots of Cricket WC finals. I would say Srikanth's 38 against WI is probably the best innings by a batsman, considering the type of pitch and quality of the opponent bowlers.

Sir I remember when Sir Clive layyod had that battery of fast bowlers in his arsenal, an interview of his. He said the best batsman in his opinion to play fast bowlers at that time (I am talking 1983 onwards ) was Mohinder Amarnath. I remember before WC1983 Indian team visited West Indies Mohinder Amarnath was at his best to face that battery of fast bowlers. Can you say something on his(M Amarnath) orthodox stance that he took was that useful? And then 1983 WC win by India was a game changer and a watershed moment . That day fulcrum of World of Cricket changed. I do not know if we realised it that June 83 day.... Jeffrey Dujon said once that Garner was the difficult to keep behind wickets.

Thank you for doing this, born in the UK but of Jamaican decent I have many memories of my dad and uncles watching the great westindian, Pakistan and Indian teams, I think cricket was much more entertaining back then. Good memories, my dad even had an SS bat if I remember rightly

I wonder how modern batsmen do front leg press before ball is delivered. It not possible to play WI bowler in front foot.

Exactly I agree with you Cheeka sir, I too like the WI brand of cricket and I am greatest fan of WI cricket. The only time I wished them to lose a match was 1983 Prudential WC final. 70-80s is really a golden generation in cricket great batsmen and equally talented bowlers. I feel I am blessed to have watched those matches. A great fan of you Cheeka sir.

Rightly said by you srikanth sir . I was and am huge fan of you sir . The late and legendary fast bowler, the fastest , dangerous and the most deadliest bowler at that point of time was Malcolm Marshall. Unfortunately he passed away due to cancer . May his soul RIP .

However, their intention was not to bowl good deliveries and get the wicket, but to bowl to render the batsman wounded. That was an ugly trick, lacking any sportsmanship. But, the windies bowlers were really excellent and were not applying any such cheap tactics to get the wicket.

Very good episode. Can't stop laughing. I am also one of the luckiest person to have enjoyed watching the best ever cricket team in the history. It was a complete team. All are specialists in their respective roles. Four fearsome bowlers (Marshall, Robert s, Holding & Garner), specialist openers (Greenidge & Haynes), middle order batsmen (Loyd, Richards & Logie), Wicket keeper (Dujon) & Larry Homes. And Clive Loyd's famous quote....We win by miles or lose by miles.
Hi you told about ... playing Marshall in sharja... I remember that over.... 1 ball six (hook), 2nd ball square cut 4 .. 3rd ball solid defence .. 4 th and 5th ball beaten .. and 6th ball gilli (bold) .. it s one of the best over I have seen.....

Ya! I watched in Jan 1975, the Legend Sir Andy Roberts in action at Chepauk ground in person. Admiring, Cool but Menacing, gentle action... The cartwheeling of Karshan Ghavri's stemps to Derrick Murray, the Wicket keeper, still in my eyes. Unforgettable experience of Cricket, the guts, skill and determination of Legend Gundappa Vishwanath scoring unbeaten 97 against the super fast legend's onslaught (seven wickets), the ball was almost invisible. In fact, I was a bit disappointed and tired as I was unable to see the ball. Then guessed it with batsmen's reactions ( mostly miserable). One thing Cheeka they were true cricketers had guts to play WITHOUT HELMET OR HEADGEAR against the jaws of death. Above all NO BIG MONEY.

I have seen lots of Cricket WC finals. I would say Srikanth's 38 against WI is probably the best innings by a batsman, considering the type of pitch and quality of the opponent bowlers.
I wish I could understand Tamil language. I'm excited to hear it from none other than Srikant sir who faced this fearsome attack. I still remember watching the 83 world cup matches, followed by WI tour of India.

I remember when Sir Clive layyod had that battery of fast bowlers in his arsenal, an interview of his. He said the best batsman in his opinion to play fast bowlers at that time (I am talking 1983 onwards ) was Mohinder Amarnath. I remember before WC1983 Indian team visited West Indies Mohinder Amarnath was at his best to face that battery of fast bowlers. Can you say something on his(M Amarnath) orthodox stance that he took was that useful?
And then 1983 WC win by India was a game changer and a watershed moment . That day fulcrum of World of Cricket changed. I do not know if we realised it that June 83 day....
Jeffrey Dujon said once that Garner was the difficult to keep behind wickets.
