Should have said why I don’t use auto hover, at altitude it doesn’t stabilize the harrier and will throw it into the negative speed and will throw off aim!

I dont suffer from Anxiety... but after sitting through Phly doing ten dozen rechecks on his bomb position when he's already in position... really made me feel for those who do.

Harriers have a water injection system for VTOL operations that boost the mass flow through the engine and cools it allowing for temporary increase in fuel burn and power output. Basically implemented in War Thunder as WEP

I've heard they only have enough water for a minute or two(maybe more?) of full hover before engine overheat occurs. So True Lies, lied about the capabilities. The same with Live Free or Die Hard with the F-35 in that movie. The VTOL function allows a quick(ish) takeoff without a long runway or when the runway is unusable(bombed).
its around 90 sec that it can hover and while doing that it uses all of it cooling water around 140 liters. and war thunder with their ( we want to keep it realistic ) policy haha

@@TheWizardGamez bro exactly the same except arcade. USA aviation. Made it to the first early jet and just couldn't grind any more. Knowing I would have to grind another y months just to fill out a 6.0 lineup was too much for me

At 3:15 you can actually see the bomb if you stop at exactly 3:20 and look to the left side of the screen

Hey Phly! When the tank is sliding around, it's due to him being rendered at a lower positional resolution since you are far away, so his position on your screen flies around and he looks like he is in one position, but on the server he is maybe 5m to the left. HOWEVER, if you use the lock mechanic (this applies for helis too), it locks onto his true aka serverside position
Hey phly. I worked on harriers while in the Marines corps. The aircraft is actually water cooled while hovering. It has a 50lbs tank just at the end of the wing

Interesting entertainment but I'm not so sure about the feasibility. Don't know about the Harrier II that you were flying but the original Harrier had a limit of around 60 seconds of hovering before bad things happened.
Wonder also how faithfully the hover stability of the Harrier is modeled? A Harrier Classic pilot told me the HUD displays two vertical lines in the attitude indicator when hovering and if the pipper diverged beyond either marker the pilot is instructed to eject immediately, as it basically indicates you've fallen off the pillar of thrust supporting the aircraft (which when hovering in the usual case, i.e. in ground effect just above the ground, means you'll crash in a split-second).
It's 'Bingo' for fuel - if you're out of ordnance the brevity code is 'Winchester.' 🙂
I want battles where Land, Air and Sea forces fight together and you can choose whatever you like... this would be so great
Not a good idea because pretty much Naval vehicles would be reigning supreme
@@akiara8491 i think the only way to make it work is the same sort of way arcade mode uses planes, once someone gets enough kills/points, they click a button which gives them 1 or 2 minutes in ones of the ships at the edge of the map, then they can either try to fire at the tanks or other ships

Me: Gets focused by all of the SPAA as soon as I get the idea to respawn with anything that travels slightly above the surface
I get locked by SPAA before i even takeoff

@@Elijah1573 Yeah, I never understand how is this possible that they play against so blind players. On the ground as well, they can destroy entire convoys without anyone spotting them, meanwhile I got spotted from 3 kilometers through 3 tree lines, bushes and rock in front of me. Then probably heli destroys me.

In the Falklands war in 1981 an RAF pilot was in a harrier dogfighting a Mirage 2000. He almost flew into an enemy helicopter but he got the VTOL full down just before it.
The thrust from the harrier blew the chopper straight into the ground for an indirect air to air kill. Then he fired a sidewinder at the mirage and broke off when it went supersonic to avoid the missile. He said after about a minute, a ball of smoke appeared about 15 miles away, so he got the mirage too.
The Harrier was way before its time, love that plane.

The harrier has a water suppy that cools the engine during hover, but it doesnt last long and when it out you could cook your engines
There is a hover button so you don't have to worry about leveling the plane once you're at a low enough speed.

Phly rocks the daddy thing. He has no idea about hover mode, doesn't stabilize his view of the battlefield and prefers to search the battlefield anew every time, he's never heard of laser bombs needing their own field of view to track them and he doesn't have a single self-made loadout so that the jet would be good. It's just like watching your old man discover the internet for the first time.

The Pegasus engine is called by water when hovering after 9 minutes it runs out of water. Also the Harrier cannot launch munitions when hovering
4:16 AMAZING GAME design, the bomb had to get speed so the fins could direct it to the target. (Good enuf). But then the bomb munched a hole through the tank. (now kinda shocked). Then there was a shockwave that looked like real air displacement or whatever the right term is. (Above and beyond now). Then there was a high quality Xray of the actual kinetic kill instead of only showing it as blasted and killed ( decided had to type compliment hoping a dev decides to put as much care into their own games) BTW harrier is water cooled. not sure all versions are but probably.

FYI, satellites don't just stationary hover above your head. Most are in low earth orbit and will pass through the sky like a jet but in higher altitude.
The sliding tanks are visual bug they are moving as normal but look like they be sliding all over the place have to take it how it is.

Fun fact, in real life Harriers can only hover for about a minute and a half before they run out of coolant and the engine overheats dramatically. That's not represented in game though.

I'm a British main in War Thunder and over the sale I picked up the Challenger DS. It's helping me unlock 8.0 and up. I don't care what anyone else says the Chally is a fantastic Tank platform. It may not be the fastest but its smooth and feels good to play.

I’ve been having a blast in the warrior, I even uptier it quite a lot, it’s a fantastic vehicle if you don’t mind waiting for an opportunity.
Can’t wait for them to add the desert warrior variant with a stabilized gun
So just a hint for the Harrier class. 95% on the Thrust vector is it aiming straight down, 100% acts like a minor air brake to slow you down and push you back.

Just want to point it out, but satellites don't just hover in space. They are moving very fast like a plane. Only difference is they aren't using lift, and they are actually falling. The only reason they aren't hitting the surface as they are falling is because of the objects velocity. Which is greater or equal to their rate of descent, which means they are a satellite in orbit of the obeject they are falling towards.
You do not have to be directly over the target. They can be in front of you, and the bomb will fly forward before it descends.

Sliding around is a very known bug with the game, when you're far away stuff will slide, appear underground and all sorts, it's pretty bad

this just reminds me of the ancient strat on robocraft of strapping a railgun on a helium block
the bombs want to glide forward because of the fins. you would be more successful if you weren't DIRECTLY overhead them, but instead had your bomb reticle just a hair short of wherever you're trying to hit them. Also remember that gravity will provide the bomb the ability to maneuver further forward then it will to move backward because you're asking it to flop over and restabilize.
