Fun fact, the Polsten is an Oerlikon, with a design adapted by Polish engineers who fled to England to be cheaper to manufacture. It was already a very simple design so that's a fairly impressive accomplishment.
Ekhm, they reduced number of parts from 250 parts to 119 parts without sacrificing the effectiveness or the reliability of the cannon.
I have no idea how you ended up with conclusion that this was a very simple design...
I would say that Polish self-repeating rifle Kbsp wz.38M was a simple design as it was using ten times less parts.

The Skinks is the only vehicle in game that uses the Polsten 20mm cannons.
Edit: Apparently the Polsten is a Polish design, made after many engineers and such escaped to England after Germany invaded. It shares much with the Oerlikon 20mm guns, but uses fewer parts while being just as effective. It was used to substitute the Oerlikon 20mms where needed, and infact was used on some of the Cromwell/Centaur AA vehicles but most often in multi gun mounts on towed trailers.
Apparently it was also in limited fashion, mounted on some Briths LVT's and as a rooftop side mounted gun on early models of the Centurions.

I think the reason the skink "overheats" so much quicker than the ostwind (though the ostwind definately has way too much time before overheating) is because of its closed turret, as the fumes from firing the 4 autocannons inside the turret would become dangerous for the crew if you werent to wait for them to vent out for a little bit
@@Lofi.z34 the oerlikon is does not kick. That hard but it does kind of need to have an open mount because if doesn't the barrel will heat to the point it starts jamming or will eventually start cooking off rounds

You mean the part around 13:00 ? He was about to say that you have to let the aircraft come closer. Most people shoot while the aircraft are miles away, they won´t ever hit shit and the Aircraft will surely stay away. I play a shitton of CAS.. and if a dude shoots at me from like 2km away, I have a good laugh and stay away and as soon as he shoots somewhere else I yoink him, since his constant firing let me know his position at all times.
So first, move out of the spawn and away from your AA spamming noob teammates.
Second, get into a good position like close to a capture point but still in good cover from tanks
Third, get patient and try to wait til the aircraft comes as close as possible and preferably flies as straight as possible~
And general rule even I have to remind myself of after a couple thousands of hours in WT: If you don´t hit there is a 99% chance you are not leading enough.
BONUS for the meme bois: If you want an aircraft to come closer and you for certain know that dude is thirsty for a ground unit kill, turn your turret away from him, preferably somewhere a teammate of his is flying. Use free look camera to keep track of him and shoot just into the void away from him while saying "Ohh I am such a weak little noob anti air, I can´t hit anything I am sooo defenseless" (trust me this helps and makes your buddies in Discord cry in laughter if you get the kill) then turn the turret once he takes the bait and just annihilate him.

@@elijahcrowe6817 Yeah. I don't really think the p63 pilot had any time to even realize what happened before he disintegrated. The b17 was probably the hardest to see since a couple were still alive until they hit the ground. 2 beautiful planes and pieces of history lost along with a few amazing people. Sad weekend for sure.
@@stonedgsxr4211 One of the hardest parts is watching videos that they made before the airshow that were about the planes, interviews with the crew members, and the video the pilot of the p63 made a couple months ago. That plane was one of a kind. In some of the videos you could see the markings of the targets and planes the Texas Raiders took out when in service. And the families...that has to be so hard. And all of the stupid people blaming the pilots and what not

I always forget the wirbel is 3.7, as it is basically the AA i put into every lineup until i get to the coelian or gepard. Yeah I dont get it either. The only reason i can see is the fact its open top and the turret can be penetrated by .50cals
When I saw this I was searching up the lizard skink.
I think its the rate of fire difference is why it won't overheat. The Rate Of Fire between the stink and Ostwind is much different.
R.O.F doesn't have as much contributing to overheating as Barrel design, ammunition Caliber, muzzle velocity, OAT.

@@robertharris6092 what makes you say they're same caliber, the skink is a quad mounted 20mm, the ostwind uses a single mounted 37mm. the polsten has a 2.8x fireing rate, similar muzzle velocity but the 37mm also has a way thicker barrel

It's at 5.0 because it has a better volume of fire with four 20mm Oerlikon cannons and HET that works pretty good on planes. It's at 5.0 because it's closed in and less at risk of getting shot by aircraft machineguns. Load HET. Shoot at planes. Like the AEC AA, Crusader AA MkII, and Ystervark, the Skink is made for killing aircraft, not tanks.
Even if it's not the first video he made since his comeback, I still am so happy to have a video of phly everyday. I feel like, I don't take it for granted anymore , and it's making me appreciate each of his videos to a whole new level. Thank you PhlyDaily

Skink was a perfect addition for my British 5.0 AB setup and I intensively used it to grind Sturmtiger event - 2000-3000 points every match were super easy.
The BV-155 is fun to fly. Surprisingly good CAS. Dog fighting and ground pound. Works well to fly using the elevators. I just bank and pull up on the stick, can out turn most planes if you play it like that. Rolling takes a long time though.

Damn those hits on the plane at 21:00 looked so cool. The new hit animations are quite cool additions
The Coelian only has 40 some mm of pen and I got a nuke with it in my Maus lineup. It shoots so fast that even against the heavily armored targets you can get a shot trap into the hull or off the cupola relatively quickly.

37mm, but they're APHE rounds, so have much more post-pen effects.

@@Jairion I agree with you, it is an open top making it easier for aircraft without cannons to kill it. all you need is an MG. More often than not 50 cal pens many mil of armor and most planes at that BR possess 50 cal. Hell the peashooter reserve planes have 50 cals.
Ekhm, PzGr 40 in case of Wirbelwind have 48mm not 45mm of penetration from 10m and Skink APT have only 42mm not 45mm from 10m...
Skink is penetrating up to 38mm from 100m and at the same distance Wirbelwind is able to penetrate 45mm.

The Polsten machine gun has been designed primarily to fulfill an anti-aircraft role against low flying aircraft and pilotless planes. The Polsten was also mounted on British LVTs and on early models of the Centurion tankk, not coaxially with the main gun but in an independent mount on the left hand side of the turret.

It'd be nice to put back in a lineup with my Firefly for that nice WW2 Sherman vibe but now we have the bosvark at 4.7 I doubt it will ever go back down. Shame really because it has rather low velocity guns so you can only really engage targets when they're close. Vs the high fire rate and velocity of the Bosvark and Ystervark guns which would be better suited for higher tiers
Barrel thickness helps control overheating and warping. German 37s are thicker.
Early shermans already look organic enought with those round curvatures on the cast armour of turret and hull. But this brings it to another level! THis thing literally looks like an organic animal

The Americans or the British? It is Canadian... It is based on the Canadian licensed version of the M4, called the Grizzly 1, using Finnish or Polish 20mm's, can't quite remember. The flag in game that is on the Skink is the old Canadian flag, not too widely recognized much today.
Also it entered the game at 4.7, which I thought was perfect since I mainly run 4.7, like my 2 firefly's, churchill, Spitfire mk9c, and a Crusader III and or the SARC 6pndr, since both are good lights, and both have decent guns even when brought up to 4.7... now that the SKink is up at 5.0 it sort of ruined my lineup a bit, it was perfect at 4.7 and really wish it would be moved back down to 4.7, and move that massive anti air truck down to 4.3 at the vary least.
Still waiting for Gaijin to give us a Red Ensign decal like I can't be slapping the current flag on WW2 planes

I struggled so hard with AA. Especially the 20mm Oerlikons cuz I just couldn't figure out hw much lead I needed to give to hit the target. But then I managed to shoot down a Bf109. And after that it has gotten so much better for some reason.

AA can be so satisfying and ez when you know how to play it, i sometimes rack up 6air kills per game with my r3, depending on how many planes are up. And the best part is, not only are you gaining SP, your also protecting your team from bombs, and every plane killed is worth like 2 tanks for the enemy

As a main Germany player who also plays USA. I would prefer a bit more the Skink that Ostwind because you can’t pen it from top. I told you that as someone who easily goes top down on Ostwinds, Wirbelwinds, and kills them easily because of that.

It was a great addition to the 4.7 lineup with the firefly and Churchill. A real shame it’s gone up. Probably won’t be played by me. I don’t usually play 5.0 above (love 6.7 to 8.3) as I like taking out full line ups.
I should add I don’t like playing the WW2 tanks with modern vehicles like concept and Ystervark although I do like them (play them at 6.0 with the MK1 cent) just personal preference, the skink kind of fit for me.

The Skink really is best used for AA only, it's slow and cumbersome but is very resilient vs incoming aircraft fire (not bombs), if they are coming back for a 2nd flyby you're doing something wrong.
