    I appreciate the beginning where you re-iterate that you don't *need* to do anything. So many people spend a bunch of money on mods then they have no more money left for their adventures. I did a hyperpro kit on my 250L rally and it was like $300 for fork spring, rear spring, and thicker oil. Still not perfect but made a substantial difference.

    These videos make me feel at home. Because you’re riding on the roads I grew up on. Every road looks familiar. Love me some North East Texas open flat boring roads through the farmlands. I don’t know anything about motorcycles. But those roads are comforting.

    It's been great watching this bike evolve, Jake. I still see one in my future. Maybe a tenere or that new honda afterward as well. Looking forward to following your future projects (and inevitably growing a desire for whatever bike you end up on next)

    I like the breakdown of this. Again after riding your bike, I'd say it is set up the way it is makes it exciting to ride with the increased power, handling, and ergonomics. It's headlight also doesn't look like a frog sitting in a lily pad like my DRZ. It's great for wheelies also.

    I'm at $2k already with just a good rear suspension ($700) and lot of minor things you would not bother to mention. But it adds up in the final sum. Like folding mirrors, better tires, hand guards, hand grips, thick tubes, chain sprocket, speedo correction. Yet I haven't addressed the seat comfort nor the gas tank capacity yet. Neither of that is gonna be cheap. If you sum bills for everything you've done to the bike, the bottom line would be scary.

    Brand new 23 crf300l abs here. New rider, this bike is quite a bit of fun, its a speed limit bike for sure but still feels like im flying around haha. Other than a screw or two and the left mirror being loose its been solid so far.

    Hi ! What do you think about only, engine wise, only put the CBR CAMS + DNA AIR FILTER first, and then a few months later the EXHAUST + Dynojet PV3? Or it would cause the bike to run bad? Thanks and hello from Chile

    Great video. I have a rally and wanting to do a lot of this (gradually over time) one question. Would you need to do the dynojet if you are getting a 550 ECU? Might be a stupid question. I’m leaning as I go.

    Ive done cams and related mods still rocking stock suspension(ran out of money ha) and honestly it takes me anywhere i want to go. Any off road i would get rid of the ircs though. The front isnt terrible but that rear doesnt give you much confidence. It really is a great dual sport out of the box though. Everyone that rides mine loves how smooth it is.

    Why don't Honda (and every other manufacturer) just get the bikes right from the factory? First thing we do on basically any dirt bike is protection, suspension, headlight and grab handles.

    When deciding between all the bikes I came down to drz400sm or crf 300l. I like all the other bikes but for commuting they seemed to be best, like you say Swiss Army knife of bikes. The 300 I was concerned about highway speeds stock. The drz I knew was high rpm but would do it and I had experience with the drz. So I got the drz and I love it. I know newer bikes outperform it and some say it’s heavy but I have fun with it and I don’t go racing or trying to make it 450rl fast

    • @TheGardenSnake
      @TheGardenSnake  Рік тому

      They both handle highway but I would say the 300 does it better. Mainly because it’s so sound and smooth. But I also had 50k miles on my drz with tons of highway miles. So you should be fine.

  • @phantomshtter

    If you get stuck like that you can use those sticks nearby I saw to leverage yourself out under your rear sprocket or lay a couple down and use them to pivot out off your kickstand... wedge under your tires... theres a multitude of options but leverage is your best friend in that scenario. After skid plate and handguards I think suspension should be number one. Nobody should learn to ride on the stock suspension is just going to teach bad habits and destroy your confidence the whole time. I've personally never seen a more worthless suspension. I think putting these high $ performance exhausts on little single cylinder thumpers is stupid though, they sound silly and destroy the invaluable stealth factor of the bike.

    How does it compare to a 690/701? Cuz money wise its pretty similair at this point.

    • @TheGardenSnake
      @TheGardenSnake  Рік тому +3

      A 690/701 is a ton more powerful, awesome suspension travel out the box, amazing bike. Do I trust as much as Honda or Japanese bike, nope. Everyone is pretty expensive with a ktm. Oil changes are every 6k miles, not bad. But it also needs a valve adjustment every oil change. Sorry but that’s ridiculous. It’s a great bike but it’s really meant for people with deep pockets that pay dealerships to do everything.

  • @Dowent
    @Dowent Рік тому

    I'm currently considering upgrading the rear suspension. Most people tell me that just upgrading the spring to get a reasonable SAG (I'm quite heavy and often carry heavy luggage) will make it worse, because rear is already under-dampened and stronger spring will only overpower it more.
    I use my Rally as an ADV bike with as much off-road as possible, but I tend to go quite slow.
    You've said that several people told you that just upgrading the springs, basically the Stage 1, was a great improvement. Do you have and info on how it turned out for these people? Did the stronger spring overpower the shock? Have they ended up upgrading the shock anyway? Are there shocks compatible with the original dimensions of the spring, making it a two stage upgrade? Could you maybe get me in touch with some of them? (I'm Therent on ADVRider).
    Thank you

    • @jeffminnich3291
      @jeffminnich3291 8 місяців тому

      some basic suspension info for you. The shock is sprung for a 150LB person. The correct sag will be had/determined by the correct spring for your weight (there's got to be a chart somewhere). The bouncy suspension will still be there. They have no damping or rebound adjustment and they are really fast so you get the po-go effect. This effect cannot be changed on the stock shock, that's where a better shock comes in. In my world, it is a must have and cannot believe there is such a primitive shock on the bike (yes, I knew going in). Can't wait to replace mine, im on 1200 miles now.
