Rogue One is hella underrated, I loved that movie. Loved the backstory and plot. Great story and crucial plot points told with perfection. Without the sacrifice of the Rogue One squad, there would've been no hope.
To sum it up quickly,

i just started watching a new hope but was so confused by rogue one because of all the new characters so this really helped

This movie was very well received, and I did really like the acting and visuals. But when it comes to advancing the story of the Star Wars universe I thought it was pretty unnecessary. The entire movie sums up to: rebels get the weakness to the deathstar that they mention in A New Hope. It just filled in a little gap that wasn't all that mysterious to begin with.
I respectfully disagree that it was “not that mysterious”. It was a COMICALLY glaring plothole before this movie imo.
Agreed, I feel like it would have been better suited for a TV show like the mandalorian
Its still far better than episodes 7,8 and 9 combined which are basically reskins of 4,5 and 6
I had never watched star wars and decided to give it a try a few days ago, I watch your recap before starting the respective movie (watching in theatrical release sequence) these help a lot! Thank you! I can now properly appreciate an almost 50 year movie franchise

Wellll if the Death Star didn’t blow up then, Thrawn was always going to blow it up eventually. If you read the books, he is part of the Chiss Expansionary Defense Fleet and became involved with the Empire after hearing about the capabilities of the Death Star. Knowing eventually it could be turned against him and his people, he decided to join the Empire and control it instead of fight it.
Now had they not blown it up, all Luke needed to do was fake join the dark side and trick Vader into putting him into power. Due to the rule of 2, Vader would have killed Palpatine and then Luke could have easily finished him off with or without continued training.
Only difference would be a few more worlds would have died.
Glad I could watch this instead of watching the most boring Star Wars movie ever made again.

How come ships entering hyperspace are interrupted by a single Imperial ship here but in Last Jedi 1 ship entering hyperspace rips through the whole First Order fleet?
