In this video, Dr. Lei will introduce the second exhibition area of the Sanxingdui Museum in Guanghan, Sichuan: Majestic Capital of Ancient Shu.
In the late Shang Dynasty, Sanxingdui Site had already been built a sizable city. The highly developed industries of bronze casting, gold processing, jade making, and silk weaving, as well as the complex social structure and mature sacrificial system, demonstrate its unique position as a ruling center, religious center, and economic center, which may indicate that Sanxingdui Site was the capital of a certain generation of Shu kings. The bronze standing statue unearthed in the second sacrificial pit of Sanxingdui not only embodies the style of a king, but also the ritual of a great witch. It should be the image of the highest ruler of ancient Shu, who combines the identities of a god, a witch, and a king. The golden mace unearthed from Sanxingdui is a symbol of the highest power of the ancient Shu Kingdom.
The bronze statues, bronze Leis, bronze bells, bronze plaques, jade Zhang, jade Ge, jade Cong, pottery He and other cultural relics unearthed from Sanxingdui have widely absorbed and integrated cultural factors from the Yellow River Basin and the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. Sanxingdui is a vivid example of the inclusive and creative characteristics of Chinese civilization.
In the next video, Dr. Lei will introduce the third exhibition area of Sanxingdui Museum: The World of Humans and Gods. Please continue to watch.
