I like how he didn't start with "It's so nice hosting SNL" like every other host but kept it for the end. It felt very genuine.

He was running for a flight at O’Hare recently. Couldn’t miss him with his tallness and LV luggage. I made the heart sign with my hands and even though he was literally running to his gate he stopped and mouthed “ thank you”. Kindness rules.

That was one of the shortest but most uplifting, kind, and heartfelt opening monologues I've ever heart. I've seen some opening monologues that had me totally uninterested. This was pure humanity and I loved it. Thank you, RuPaul.
It was concise and it would’ve been great to hear more, but he likely wrote most of it. Unlike some others… Selena Gomez? Kim K? I dunno, maybe they had some input but then speak a lot more slowly and have less to actually offer, on a spiritual level, most of the time. Not saying 100% of the time they’re worthless… bc even I watch KUWTK sometimes. Haha. And I do like their family dynamic. But Ru knows how to get to the heart of a topic, and keep people laughing and questioning life at the same time.
He is the person the word fabulous was invented for.

I love him to death, the way he can seamlessly switch between dramatic and comedic and maintain the same level of magnetism all the way through is so rare. He’s a true performer through and through

This is a long time coming. Back after the all those "Have Betty White Host SNL" petitions spread like wildfire (and succeeded), it seemed like everybody started to name others who might be a long shot to host. RuPaul was one of the names tossed around. This icon of pop culture has been a household name for THIRTY YEARS and only now received the invitation to host SNL, while other celebs carve notches in their bedposts everytime they host. Frankly, I would have told Lorne Michaels to kiss my ass if I were Ru, but I somehow doubt it was his idea anyway. I could see it being the result of heavy pressure from cast members like Leslie Jones and Bobby Moynihan who are self-avowed fans of Drag Race. But the fact remains it has finally happened - and that was an accomplishment befitting a queen.
I agree he should've been on far sooner. And with a better musical guest.

I think he was mostly invited to promote his show “AJ and the Queen”. Usually SNL don’t invite guest hosts unless they have something to promote.
@@macaoron I agree, but they also could have chosen any of the multitude of projects RuPaul has had her hands in over the past decade. "Drag Race" has been a hit for years and it's actually moved drag into the mainstream. SNL's even done sketches about its popularity.
