      I think it's worth noting that NBD does a weird proprietary betaflight thing. You can't just fire up betaflight and flash the newest and greatest target, you have to wait for NBD to release their special hex for the board. This also removes the option of running Quicksilver and feels a bit disrespectful to the Betaflight devs.
      Also for bad support stories with NBD. I ordered a combo for BRUSHLESS plaid motors and props, and received a set of BRUSHED plaid motors and the correct size props. It took nbd 7 business days to respond to my first email, they said I had to pay to ship the $10 brushed motors back to them, then when I offered to just buy the brushed motors instead it took them another 4 days to respond to me. Compared to Racedayquads who sent me a refund for a doa product and didn't request the product to be shipped back, but just the dead FC so I could use the rest of it in a diy build.
      NBD whoop motors are also super heavy compared to Happymodel/tinywhoop motors, and are less efficient.
      I won't buy nbd any more, they don''t seem to want to compete with the modern whoop world. A mobeetle6 is 19~ grams dry and costs less than this BLV4, seems like a no brainer to me.

      I actually have multiple boards where the gyro misbehaves in Betaflight and it’s not usable, at all… either the gyro is moving continuously, when the board is stationary, or the opposite, gyro doesn’t move at all…
      As soon as I put Silverware, everything works 🤷‍♂️ I never understood this… defective boards work on Silverware for some reason!!!
      I am so glad I ran into these issues, as Silverware is absolutely amazing to fly. If you haven’t flown it… you are doing yourself a disservice.
      It is so good!!!
      For micros and whoops, it is the best…. And even for 5” it flys so good!
      It is so easy to set up, and has interesting features I absolutely love, like auto flip over and auto throttle down arm after flipping arm switch, and super easy tuning through OSD.
      I was tuning a quad in 10 minutes and that was when I was new, now I can do a 90% tune in 3 minutes, R, P, Y and P, I, and D grid in the OSD is so well organized, it’s a pleasure to use.

    There's something up with the NBD VTXes. Your picture looks very soft and there's a pattern of horizontal bands which come and go. I had a BLV3 AIO which did the same thing, and in fact the horizontal banding got so bad on mine that I had to retire it.
    One good thing about the NBD AIOs though - they engineer their VTXes to not overheat on the bench. The VTX has a heatsink, and it doesn't power up from USB.

    NBD absolutely refuses to use BT2.0. Their excuse is that "BT2.0 can be plugged in backwards." I think it's a complete BS excuse. Yeah, I'm sure you can, but it's not easy to do. And all the dumb sized plugs....And the proprietary OSD....I haven't purchased an NBD product in 2 years.
    They may be a US-based company, but still manufactured in China and has the same amount of quality issues as Happymodel or BetaFpv but at double the price in some cases. I was all on the NBD hype train in 2020 but, after several Hummingbirds and BBBL's with various issues, I gave up.

    My first whoop was a NBD brushed, which flew great, but had a pretty poor quality cam. Got a Tinyhawk 2 next and it’s cam was so incredibly good, never flew the NBD again. Gave them another shot and got the BLv2 with diversity Rx and it was just terrible all the way around. Poor range, muddy image and it causes batteries to get super hot. There's a lot to love in theory about NBD but it doesn't seem to manifest into the real world. A lot of proprietary stuff, they seem to be behind on flight performance, things like putting a rolled pin connector is just a bit confusing. For a product that costs double what a mob6 does in my area you'd have to be crazy to get one.
    Hope NBD can make a whoop that matches or outperforms both happymodel and betaFPV, but for now they are a long way behind.

    I just can't do NBD anymore. My last one was the Hummingbird F4 v2 and it too has OSD reliability issues, also their special OSD handling washes out the video quality ever so slightly. Also I feel like a stooge because it didn't come with the addressable LEDs that the standalone v2 board comes with. If you compare the BNF's FC to the standalone FC images on the product page, you will see glaring differences.

    • @The2xWhiskey
      @The2xWhiskey Рік тому

      Additionally, the Hummingbird F4 v2 came with discontinued motors that give much less flight time than their previous motors. All in all, I think they just used the platform to offload unwanted gear to make room for newer revised gear. Hence the order that they have released these latest products.

    The ELRS diversity serial receiver, the higher powered Vtx and the higher amp rated ESCs are great to see :)
    I think, it should have been bundled as a toothpick style quad, because the Mobula6 HD is the same-ish weight, but obviously with a HD VTx. It would be nice, if NewBeeDrone would NOT push their own plugs... And still the rolled pin PH2 connector?! Why?! I am not sure how they would make their way out of those connectors. I suspect there will have to be acceptable losses at some point in order to move to the market connector standards. I've since been flying a Mob6 HDZero a ton (now with my HDZ Goggles which I pulled the trigger on literally minutes after watching your video, thanks for that!) for me at least the Mob6 has been significantly more durable (in similar weight, size, etc "class") than NBD's AcroBee65.... maybe the V4 solves some of that (hopefully).

    Great to see you back in my feed, Nick!
    Unpopular opinion, incoming...
    I love NBD as a company and I love their accessories, but after many years of disappointing results with their electronics and many second chances that left me asking myself why I thought it would be different this time, I’m done with anything that uses their PCBs. I know they’re considered premium (and they weigh a lot to give that premium feel), but I’ve just had nothing but bad luck with them. Also, I really disprove of the way they interact with the open source community. This recent ELRS situation is the most recent example, but they have a similar history with Betaflight and Silverware (as far as I know their NFE-based source code used on the original brushed Hummingbird was never made public). I get that they don't want to release the code for their proprietary components (e.g. BeeSign OSD), but if they don't want anyone to see it, I feel like they shouldn't be using open source base code. I'm not read up on the details and maybe they have found loopholes or something, and I'm far from being a GPL expert, but I wouldn't be surprised to learn about violations in some of NBDs implementations of (modified) open-source projects.
    To their credit, I’ve never met anyone who had anything but good things to say about AcroWeebu - he’s a dramatic improvement in their customer service department and has gone way above and beyond on several occasions for me. Super solid dude determined to make customers whole. I love the company’s presence and activism within the community. I love that they’re lowering barriers to entry for beginners, for whom their products are probably more than adequate (I still frequently recommend them when people ask).
    And I really did try to like their electronics - way more with them than any other company - but ultimately I just had to stop spending premium money on products that, even when not technically defective, invariably had worse performance and more compatibility issues than their cheaper competitors.
    Regardless, thanks for all you do!

    • @NickBurnsFPV
      @NickBurnsFPV  Рік тому

      The smart max is mostly thermal control. As the vtx heats up it will reduce mw output to keep the vtx within thermal limits and thus not burn out like others can do if they are powered on and not cooled with a small fan or via flight.

      I can’t speak for Nick but I often times ream the prop hole with a 1.5mm drill bit in order to get the prop on and off easier. Problem is there is a significant variation in shaft diameter from one motor manufacturer to the next.

      It is rough on the finger tips. I generally only change props when I have lost a blade or at least a portion of the prop causing flight issues. I still do it the old manual way.
