- On my summer ride through Colorado I encountered some more really bad roads heading down from Ptarmigan Pass. Make sure you know where the road goes before you follow it!

Today is spectacular, too.
Don't get hurt and be safe. Good!👍👍👍
One of the greatest moto UA-cam videos ever.
Like the cat that climbs a tree it cant climb down. That's a scenario most of us have faced many times in our lives. You are the first UA-camr to realistically document that. I am compelled to climb trees I cant climb down, and have felt those feelings many times. This video brought back a lot of memories.
There's nothing like no other option to make you succeed in the available one.
Champion. I know how you felt getting that big girl up that rocky incline. It really gets the heart pumping.
Solid riding skills.
I caught myself holding my breath as you climbed your way out. Whew!
Wow!! Thank goodness you had an adventure and not an emergency. Thank you for sharing.
WOW those roads were intense, incredible to watch you crush them!
This is the grittiest and most realistic ADV travel channel on the internet. Some people show us, "I hope I can make it down." Only Sterling shows us, "I hope I can make it back up so I can go back down the other side." That's what happens on real adventures. Thank you for sharing your adventures with us. You and the big GS did great.
Couldn’t agree more - one of my favorite channels
So happy to be back up here with the sheep! LOL!
Great video! It’s an example of where a lighter ADV pays off but you over came it.
Another great video.
I for one like the helmet cam and the audio that goes along with it.
But your cinematography is among the most favorite I’ve watched.
I know, respect and appreciate the hours and hours of time you put in to making and sharing these videos.
wow, my heart was pounding just watching from my couch! Glad you made it back up the mountain!
Wow, I held my breath over that climb and let out a sigh of relief, too, when you reached the top again! What a ride!
Enjoying this series Sterling. You are crushing it on the big heavy GS. I hear the 701 calling to you.
Good job Sterling, and a perfect judgment lesson brother!
Thanks for sharing. Quiet a challenge to take on solo on a mighty GS loaded with all that gear. You are a humble man that all of us “adv” riders can learn from.
Some of the most technical I have seen! Wow and fully loaded.
My goodness! Sterling, well done!!
Always a pleasure👍
Locked gates, the bane of off-road motorcyclists everywhere! I cannot tell you how many times I've hit a locked gate in the middle of nowhere & nearly run out of fuel backtracking. Great job on muscling that big Beemer into submission! I was sweating bullets with you on those tough sections.
I'll wait for the demonetization from the soon infamous line of "how happy I am to be back up here in the sunshine with the sheep". Awesome ride Sterling and big props for your riding skills and always great cinematography.
Greetings from Argentina, South America. That ride was crazy. I congratulate you for your courage and endurance. Your videos are excellent. keep it up
Wow, Well done! That was some great riding. Thanks for taking us along.
You bet!
I just picked up a 2019 gsa. I cannot wait to start living like you. Part time of course. Keep the videos coming. Looking forward to your project.
Congrats on the new bike. Safe travels!!! Regards from Australia.

Great adventures are never planned. Great video.
Wow...awesome! GREAT effort! All the best from CANADA!
Yeah, that was a hell of a surprise down the bottom to find a gate and an unpassable creek. Great job.
Gnarly roads buddy 😬 You did a great job 👍 Your livin the dream 😎
Awesome ride Sterling. You made the GS look good :-)
Very intense, indeed!! Well done Mate!! You are courageous. Best!
Nice riding Sterling. Thanks for sharing
That’s putting the bike through its paces for sure, not to mention Sterling.😅
Thanks again Sterling! Hearing your thoughts while you are riding in these intense situations makes the video even more amazing. I find myself stressing out a bit while in my chair, ha. I relate to your feelings exactly when I find myself not in my comfort zone wile riding. Thank you for letting us ride along!!
Glad you got back up again! Great riding! Love your videos! Cheers, Marc🤙🏼
You are a beast of a rider on that BMW! Best technical riding video I have seen in months!
Awesome. It was so perfect watching. The adventure and some foreshadowing, it could be almost be scripted . lol. I love when you mix your feelings and riding details. " I'm in first gear." Then add some sterling philosophy or 3rd person conversation. It was perfect.
Wow! That had my heart racing and my palms sweaty Great job!!! Sterling.
Glad you enjoyed it!
extraordinary! Mind control is very important! very good!
Nice job getting out of a jam! Don't turn your back on that Lama:)
2:25 If you’re not sure you’ll make it out alive (or healthy), it’s an adventcha! If you’re not sure exactly where you are, how the route is, or how things will work out, it’s an adventure. Good video!
Hello 🙋♂️ that was really a hard adventure ride. 😬 Good job! 😁🤝
Brilliant work mate, we could hear the stress/nerves in the audio, some really nasty stuff there and you coped like a Paris Dakar veteran, hey what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, very well done fella.
Sterling, you are crushing it on that bloated beast! Chapo my friend! Keep up the amazing content.
Definitely some heart rate raising moments in there, Sterling. An aspect of your videos that I love which I'm not sure I've mentioned yet, your choice of musical scores to go along with your intros and other shots seems to always fit the mood. I always get pulled in to the experience. Another awesome video. Thanks!!
Omg, I felt that ride… wow. My heart was racing. Stay safe and thanks for sharing your adventures, truly appreciate your efforts. Sty safe. Db
I will be checking this area out this summer, and staying on the easy side. Thank you for all you do and provide us.✌🏼
Well, your are an experienced rider and I can safely say thats one good strong bike.
You obviously know how to ride a big bike! It's funny how a trail like that on a KTM 500 is fun and scary as hell on a 500+ lb adv bike. Fantastic, thanks for sharing your adventures!
Questionable if a KTM 500 packed like a burro makes it the first 500 miles from southern AZ without breaking down or getting run over anyway. Sterling isn’t a big guy but he def has solid skills and heart!
Well done mate 👍 I hate those rocks.
I feel so much exhilaration watching this collorado vids! Makes me want to join you in this incredible trail!
I’ve ridden the BDR’s Mexico to Canada and the Divide Canada to Mexico on my 650 Dakar. I’ve got a 2008 1200 GS, but don’t think I’d like that big bike on roads and trails like those. Hats off to you!
When things go out of the control seems more exciting 🤭 sometimes not, so I see how hard this track is when the motorcycle go up and down. Nice one video.
Well done for knuckling down and getting on with it. It’s sections like that when you look back later and you are proud you did it 👍🏻
Well heck I feel like I almost rode that with you. Proving once again that momentum is your friend. I really wish there was a good resource where folks could post map updates for stuff like this.
Im working on that!
Again, much respect for doing those rocks on a loaded GS. And thanks for another fun video while we’re snowed in here in WV.
I was riding every part of the return trip up the mountain feeling super nervous for you good job.
that was real scary, good you are well
Great stuff! I found myself holding my breath as you rode back up that pass. I just completed my D.A.R.T level 1, 2, 3 training back in December on my F850GS and this reminded me of my day 3 training. 👍🏼
Excellent. DART is great!
Stifling is as good as they get. Been doing it all his life
WOW, Sterling your a bad ass Mo Fo, that was a rough and tough trail, even I was at the edge of my seat helping you up that hill.
Really great footage. Keep them coming.
excellent dirt paths, I know from my experience that this is not easy, and it is risky to ride alone !!! Francisco from Portugal
Another great video--thank you.
Hello Sterling, this was an incredible ride up and down. I admire your qualities as a rider and cinematographer. Great job. Cheers
Congrats! What a ride! You are a great rider, and humble too!
I was on the pegs with you Sterling on the way back up. On a trials bike it’s weight over the rear wheel and always momentum before the loose stuff allowing the bike to coast and skip the front wheel over the rocks. Not sure if it’s the same on a really heavy bike with bouncy tyres. You did really well, enjoyable but tense to watch 😮👏👍🇬🇧
Well done buddy!
Well done, I mean honestly I felt your pain, apprehension and fear. As riders we find ourselves in these situations and though our mind says well walk out, stash your baggage ect we all know what actually needs yo be done! You deserve your cold brew tonight heck 3 🤙ride on Sir
Great adventure!
Glad u made it out safe without any incidents. You and your channel continue to amaze and inspire me. Thanks for taking us along Sterling!
Be safe Sir. Neat ride.
Awesome video. Good job maneuvering that trail. I know that was tough, especially on your bike. Thanks for the adventure.
👍nice country and a good work out on the bike.....
Great riding Sterling! Carried good spead and used the right and left sides of the trail. Good stuff. It's easies if you can keep speed and the way youu do that is looking ahead!
As usual - you never disappoint…great content and video…makes me realize what our GS’s can do!!! - can’t wait to see the next one!!!
Thanks for riding along with me!!
Nice job with that road. I have been up that road when the gate was open. The section you missed out on is up a creek with a ton of rocks. When I saw you go down the north side I knew you were in for a ride. Love your videos!
Yes, that creek looked pretty gnarly! Glad I couldn't get through the gate!
You think you’ve run the gauntlet and then 11:22 another 100 yards. Thanks for sharing your 1st gear sections and great throttle work and crossing back. I’m sure you’ve got close to 100lbs of gear on there. Beauty of that Boxer torque! Good job out there on your own - I guess we were all had some angst watching this one! 👌🏼
Your reward for getting back out alive? Relief and a horny Llama!! Love love love your videos man! Thanks for taking us along.
Great job , I was in the similar situation before and I know thing can go either way, glad to see you made thought .
Holy Crap. Bad ass riding!🤘
Great video. I know the feeling of relief you get making it thru tough sections like that. Keep the content coming
Mate what an outstanding run!! That looked like so much fun indeed! I'm liking the new POV camera & mic. Keep up with that for sure!
I noticed that you seemed to be a lot more worried when you were looking straight down, vs looking farther ahead down the trail. Glad you figured that out and were able to overcome all those obstacles!! Are those yellow bags made by Touratech, Wolfman, or someone else??
Wolfman, they are great!
Well done...that was a tough ride, you did great and so did the GS.
Yaaaaa... just got my 1st Adventure Bike. Triumph Tiger Explorer. No way I'd even attempt what you've done in some of your videos.
Well done that was a hard ride back up , I have been in that situation myself and don't like it . Thanks again Pete Western Australia
You never ever disappoint Sterling! Fantastic video as usual! Please keep this incredible content coming 🙏
Really enjoyed the commentary!
haha, you do pick the roads Sterling, bet you that road was open until you arrive..
I think your riding skills are very good. I like your videos very much. I hope you will update your videos more. I will always pay attention to your itinerary.
Thank you very much!
Really tense man I could feel it as though it was me riding. You definitely inspire me. Thank you Btw, I think our paths crossed July 3, 2019, Jacob Lake Inn I was on a red GSA NY to Ca
Nice video!! Thanks!
EXCELLENT!
Its a good thing you are a damn good rider. Those uphills would be difficult on a 300 or a 500, not to mention a big GS! What kind of tires are you running to avoid punctures from those rocks?
Motoz Tractionator I think.
Love the videos.
If you're up that way, bring Jose a doob.
Yikes. My palms were sweating…
Great video 😎
Epic challenging adventure & great recovery out of difficult situation...thanks for sharing. Would it have been much easier/doable on the 701 LR ?, or does the more Torquey GS engine win out ?
Good question, the GS is such a tractor with a low center of gravity and really good torque. The 701 is a bit taller with better suspension.
