I kinda liked the blue tint of the movie especially on hoth and carbon chamber. Some pictures looks better and some bader in my opinion.
I absolutely loved this transfer. That blue tint has been removed and makes everything so Natural.
Funny I always associate Empire with the bright blue/orange colour pattern. I think the theme of ESB is quite bleak and the transfer’s lower saturation really reflected that.
No it doesn't!! it's totally washed out and there's a yellow hue over it now. To the people who don't work with colour grading, would think it's natural. Trust me...it really isn't!!! I would be royally fucked off if this was truly the 4K versions (which I am assuming they are) and I had just paid out £200 for them! :(
No way! I love 4K HDR and the more natural look it brings films... this is a travesty! Empire always had that blue hue... now it just looks like a dark teal shadow of itself. The resolution is slightly better but the coloring is awful. Love all of the 4K Star Wars transfers except for this one... just doesn't feel like Empire.
4K version is washed out, brown, and dark.
@@YoshiCookie negative. It's stayed true to it's original color. And it was bright on my display.
ok, so after comparing the Disney+ versions to these screenshots, on a HDR screen, the blue has been removed from this new color version but a lot of the white highlight and color saturation DO come back with it being shown in HDR/Dolby, so when playing the movie its not as grey as these screenshots suggest. main point: it doesnt look as bad as it does when playing, although, im not really happy with 99% of the blue/orange removed.
Yes I don't like it. It's an artistic change.
Almost seems like a different film 🤔
@Michael Belmontez Jr Damn. I think George is great, but he makes odd decisions at times.
@Michael Belmontez Jr
That isn't true. These are completely new restorations and transfers done by Disney. Know your subject.
@@MrGhostfaceLives Actually for the OT films Disney used 4k transfers that 20th Century did that Disney gained in the acquisition. Disney did their own transfers for the prequels.
Nice! Now the colors looks much more natural than ever.
ESB has always been my favourite film of all time. And I always associate the colours White, Blue and Orange to the film, reflecting its darker and complex nature. This transfer really makes the film look paler and fits the overall bleaker tone of the film. Love it.
Nicholas Chen I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that the 4k actually has the correct aspect ratio
Its in my top 5 as well! Great Movie
Looks better and better with age , top film
I disagree. The movie lost 40% of its color with this "New" version. The hair and faces are closer to being black and white.
I like that the 4k has the vintage feel to it. I bought Jaws on 4k and it's amazing. I really only like doing it for the older films though.
I love blue tint better, I suppose it's personal preference here. 4K looks to greyish for my taste. Space scenes look better on 4K.
I respect your opinion, mate!
It definitely looks more natural but now it’s dull and rather colourless. Especially in the darker lit scenes it’s kinda hard to see anything
it looks like a black & white movie
Not really. The 2013 Blu-ray was very overly saturated.
@@Nicholas_Chen_ all blu-ray movies is over saturated.
Alpha dec No, they're not. Late 2000s Blu-rays maybe, but definitely not all blu-rays.
Love this new color very dark and very natural wowwww🤩
I didn't know there's an HDR version of this. Also, nice pick for Gordy Haab's music from Jedi Fallen Order.
I have the new UK skywalker saga blu-ray set, and it looks so much better than the 2011 blu-ray!
The 1080p version has more color and looks BETTER than the 4K version! The people who made the 4K version made it look "Too Dark" and actually REMOVED COLOR - as often occurs in an "HDR" movie. The entire reason the "HDR" Marketing gimmick exists is because there is virtually no resolution difference from 1080p to 4K. So the movie companies needed to come up with the HDR (10-Bit) color gimmick instead. But all they are doing is remixing the colors. The fact is, they could release that EXACT SAME version of new colors on 1080p! BOTTOM LINE: I actually preferred the brighter and more colorful 1080p version.
When George Lucas releases this thing as a 12-Bit Dolby Vision version with 65 Billion colors, it will probably be black and white and there there will be people dumb enough to say it looks better.
The 1080p version is not faithful to the theatre look of film. It was highly modified to look more like a modern film. Some like it, some don’t.
This is the best way to watch this move unless u have hd dvds of harmys trilogy. These 4k releases are amazing for what they are. Dont hate on them because they arnt the original versions. George lucas did a good job with them. There are people using 35mm prints but empire is almost destroyed. Lucas only had so much he could do at the time of this restoration
Also, he was busy adding the Maclunky.
@@iododendron3416 yep still don’t know why that was added
@@iododendron3416 also he was the one who ruined the original negatives of the old trilogy Movies 😅
Now it looks gray, dark and lifeless
Mauricio Del Barco now it isn’t all blown out with garbage color timing
@@robomnemonic3751 Which kills the style and theme ESB had. They sure kept the style on the box art though.
I agree, looks depressing.
@@TheMeanArena Exactly the original color grading by George Lucas was a big part of what made TESB what it was. Now that it's gone, the whole film feels different. And not in a good way.
it looked better before 4k
The 4K version is a dramatic improvement. The previous Blu Ray "master" was probably the same one used for the 2004 DVDs, and it showed: oversaturation, blown-out highlights, smeary details, compression artifacts galore, and too heavy on the blue/magenta tones. The 4K version is far more immersive not just because of the higher definition, but for the subdued/natural tones and restored details courtesy of the higher dynamic range. And I say this as someone who first saw TESB in 1980 as a 10 year-old kid--THIS is how I remember it. Even the old VHS releases had color truer to the theatrical releases than the awful DVD/1080 Blu Rays that followed.
I disagree. The entire color spectrum has been decreased in the HDR version that claims to increase the amount of color used. The best example is with the hair and skin of the characters. Compare any version and look at their hair. You literally see the color LEAVE when the HDR version appears. For example, the color simply leaves the hair and it starts to look more like a black and white movie when the HDR versions appear.
Stunning transfer. The color correction is amazing. Not like a bloody cartoon anymore.
Now it is closer to a black and white movie. The characters lose over half of the color in their hair in the "HDR" version.
Sweet 4K UHD.
Man, they really screwed up the 4K for this awesome film. Drained all the colour, muted the tones.... was like watching the film through sunglasses. Awful.
The 4k while sharper, looks super desaturated. Not just the blue on Hoth, but also Leia's lips, skin tones, etc.
Bumping the colors and contrast just a bit on my Vizio TV gives the brightness of the 2019 version with the natural colors of the HDR.
So just a little tinkering will make the 4K the absolute winner.
Very nice transfer
I really feel it should have been halfway between both, its either too desaturated and lacks feel or too saturated.
So glad i watch before i brought any of the 4k releases , i am not impressed at all , they may well just to a dark blue tint on the lot !! Must be the worst 4k disc i saw so far
Why
joe smith u obviously haven’t seen the terminator 2 4k
I think some people just prefer over saturation. I get why they say it looks black and white, but then I see every ones hair has blond height lights rather than sandy blonde or brown mixed hair natural hair. Then skin tones are all red on the blu ray. I know people personally who chose a cheaper tv because the over saturated colors were more pleasing to their eyes. Maybe they're used to led tvs and older video formats that didn't show skin tones as well as todays technology.
All another's things to look are when both red and blue or ornage are in one shot. They reflect off everything, causing even nearby to reflect the same color, then the 4k separated the colors evenly. 3:15 perfect example of colors bleeding over. lol
I'm a tiny bit confused... Wasn't the standard Blu-Ray 2019 release the same as the 2011 release?
I know this will generate debate but this 4K version of ESB is one of the best looking movies I've ever seen, mainly just because of the colour correction.
I disagree. Color "Removal" is a better term than Color "Correction." The entire color spectrum has been decreased in the HDR version that claims to increase the amount of color used by using 10-bit technology. The best example is with the hair and skin of the characters. Compare any version and look at their hair. You literally see the color LEAVE when the HDR version appears. For example, the color simply leaves the hair and it starts to look more like a black and white movie when the HDR versions appear.
No more that horrible blue tint. No more overexposed clipped files. 4K is so much better and natural looking. Love it.

Who made the 4k Transfer? Zac Snyder?
Oh dear they cropped all the shots!!! How come someone decided to crop the framing of the photography.. at least the color correction is better.. thanks for posting
OH YEAH. Take the blue out, baby. Feel like I'm returning to 1980!
The colors are actually more like the original prints and less saturated like the Blu ray releases. Great!
Bespin duel colors are not like the original. The light is supposed to be blue not gray.
If you want an awesome 4k space opera experience, don't buy Star Wars. Buy Flash Gordon instead. It looks incredible.
I dunno. I kinda miss the bluing up of the Hoth portions. Gives it a bit more pop and vibrancy. Itfeels like ambient arctic light whereas the 4K just looks like raw footage that was shot on a soundstage. I know they filmed for real in Norway for a lot of it but it’s kinda noticeable when the red light Leia is standing next to has the glow on her face just disappears. Kinda like seeing through the illusion there is no lightsaber blade so therefore there is not glow in dark places like in the prequels how they were like nightlights. Thus it makes it look like the set they were on didn’t have all the electronics on.
Good job and video. There are many change. +1
To bad the HDR always translates to brown on UA-cam, because the colors look 10x better when viewed on a HDR setup.
Can you make a playlist on your channel of 4k movies in physical media that’s worth buying on 4k.
Jose Magallon Yes !!!
My moonization I wish I can see 4k in person so I can see if it’s worth it buying for me lol 😂
I like that the colors are more natural, but I feel like it isn't really color corrected correctly. As a tonal shift it gets across a moody atmosphere, but I think that they over corrected from over saturated to under saturated. It looks like a flat profile on a dslr. Maybe it's because my brain was trained on the colors of the original, or maybe it is because I am not watching it in all its quality, but the compressed UA-cam "4k" version on a 1080p display. I just wish it was brighter and had more color detail, for instance their faces almost look like they were shot on sepia toned film instead of color. And all the detail in Han's face is taken out at around the 11 minute mark. Like maybe with HDR it would be brought back, but it looks crushed here.
Magnifique transfert 4K. Enfin la planete hoth a un rendu naturelle. Les silhouettes des personnages sont mieux définis. L intérieur des vaisseaux de l empire est sublime. Une grande réussite dans l ensemble.
The Empire Strikes Back is my favorite movie of all time!!!! This 4K looks great but I think I will always prefer the blu ray. Idk jus the colors pop out more on blu ray and look more brighter
As far as i can see the blue tint has gone but also colour saturation.. Looks almost black and white? If it actually looks like that id be very disappointed.
If we could just get the movie in 4k the way it was originally released... now after georgey has played with it so many times.
What release is the "Regular Version" exactly ?
The 2011 master ?
And what are the standard (1080p) bluray versions included in the 2020 boxset ? The 2011 version or the remastered ones ?
DocCharky The 2019 version is the same as the 2011 version and not from the boxes !
Some shots look like an improvment like 2:05 but others are just way too dark like 2:27. I agree that the blu ray is too blue and saturated but the 4k is too muted and dark. There is a nice imbetween the hasn't been done yet. DNR is also off puting. This is one of those 4Ks that isn't god awful but, untill we got another new 4k remaster/grade, I'm sticking with my blu ray
Cool, a black and white version of star wars! ...
It looks so... dull. I was watching the Disney+ version and I just kept saying to myself, are they trying to copy the matrix or what?
J'adore ce ton sombre. Ça colle parfaitement avec l'esprit du film selon moi
Entièrement d’accord !
One of the changes I liked is that when Luke fights Vader, the carbon chamber lights match up to when they freeze Han. Being more orange than red. Before this I had always assumed Vader had just turned the lights onto low :p Only issue I have with the transfer is now the boxes around the Tie Fighters are super visible.
Wow, looks so much better.
Waiting for a good release until buying OT on bluray was totally worth it.
9 years of waiting.
I have the 2004 Widescreen DVD.
Disney did a fantastic job remastering the original trilogy for 4K. A lot better than the 2004 DVDs and 2011 Blu-rays.
This "remaster" could be completely released on 1080p SDR. In my opinion, the 1080p version looks superior.
What is that music in the background?
Fallen Order Soundtrack
Which release of the blu ray are you comparing ?
2019 !
@@Mymoonization is blu ray sourced from the 4k uhd transfer ?
No unfortunately !!
@@Mymoonization is it sourced from the 2011 edition ?
Correct :)
Too much unnecessary colour grading. Ruined some shots in my opinion
I don’t like the 4K version. I like the blue 2019 version.
Agreed, Disney's transfers are lifeless.
Do I need to be looking at the difference with a 4K screen?
Because I much prefer the vibrant colors of the blu?
As mentioned below, the 4K screens look dull.
It should look better than this. Disney is lazy
The 4k version has slight monochrome tint to it. Is this how the original looked?
Yes close!
Booth versions doesn't look like this AT ALL.
Dose any one else feal that the removal of filters actually rob the Sean's of there emotion. They did the same with the HD buffy the Vampire Slayer and ti robs it of the desired mood and feeling that the shot is ment to give. Things just look so dark and drab now on the HD star wars. I have them but I prefer my my blurry and VHS rips
Still better than the blu ray's
🤔 i think the normal blu ray looks more star wars-ish🤷♂️.. the 4k is not bad i guess.. but i'll stick to the normal blu ray🙂
Great video. But the special editions are garbage. I'll wait until Lucas passes and Disney releases the theatrical cuts.
2019 looks better
Blue Tint is what makes Empire Strikes Back, well Empire Strikes Back. Now, its normal, natural, perfectly balance, like all Marvel movies after Iron Man 1 & 2 and Thor, bland. Kid these days will love it.
It's the exact opposite. The blue tint appeared with the 2011 master. The movie is now how it should be.
Looks great..original colour ..fantastic
I watch this movie in the cinemas, after that on vhs, laserdisc, dvd, blu-ray. this is not orginal color.
@@Alphadec But more than the 2004/2011
some scenes are too much greyish and lacking of blacks; as Homer Simpsons would say: "job mediocrely done”
4k makes it look so good.
its awful in 4k. those conversions from the old star wars movies are very dissapointing.
Disney's 4k transfers are awful, just like everything else Star Wars related that they've been involved with.
Empire Strikes Back is episode 3.
Not impressed. 4k is overrated.
