Funny I just watched this in 3D last night! I wanted to try some new settings on my 4K Sony, which is frustratingly inconsistent with 3D (crosstalk) although the overall picture quality is great. It looked better to me than the 2019 BD in your comparison but not as good as the 4K render. Been trying to decide whether to buy the 4K - now I'm convinced it's worth it. As always, great job this is my go-to ref.
Does anyone know if a fresh 35mm scan of the o-begs was done for Episodes I, IV, V and VI for the 4K release? IIRC, Lucas only scanned the negs at HD 1080 for the DVD and blu-ray releases. Who wants to buy them if they just been upscale?
I just watched EP1 to 6 from 4k Skywalker saga. I was just amazed by the quality !!! EP 4 to 6 it is obvious 4K scans was done. The picture is soooo gooood OMG. EP 2 & 3 were 2k DI but the upgrade is wonderful espacially the colors. Some shots looks in 3D :-) The new mix are just perfect. I never heard these films like this. Great job. The EP1 image is a bit meh but I don't think they can do better on a remastering level unless go back and redone all the film process (a very expensive job) but it's still a big improvment even for EP1. So I will say if you love those films it is Xmas time !!! I still can believed what I saw & heard. I'm so in love with 4k !!!
Just my opinion, upon rewatching the whole 9 films (not in 4K) I reckon TFA looks the worst cinematography wise. Interestingly, it was shot on film like TLJ and TROS which kinda makes it look better than the prequels. IMO RotS and TLJ imo have the most stunning cinematography and visuals. Will rewatch them all in 4K now to literally get another view on the picture quality of each film.
Interesting that you'd say that. I reckon it's the best looking of the 9 films, cinematography-wise. Simple and understated in its simplicity, yes. But every frame has a simple tangible old-fashioned visceral beauty to me.
@@gerhardfrog I agree, I also think The Last Jedi is a beautiful film to look at. Need to watch TROS on Bluray to make a proper assessment but I think it's the weakest, cinematography wise, of the three. Could be wrong though.
You seriously think Episode III has stunning cinematography? Aside from the action scenes, everything is photographed in the most basic and lazy way seen in the entire saga, which counts for Episode II as well. There are many shots in which the camera doesn’t even move, but the frame shifts around, meaning it was a static shot that was later edited on to make it more dynamic, which just feels laughable to me...
I remember seeing it in 3D in cinemas and it looks incredible in 4K and great improvement from the disc to streaming
8:05 It's beginning to look a lot like Christmaaaaaas...
Another great video. I've bought most of my 4K movies on the strength of your comparison videos. Keep up the good work, it's much appreciated. 👍
My pleasure Jay !
It looks like there is a bit of DNR applied to the Blu-ray. I may be wrong but the 4K definitely looks more appealing.

I don’t consider this movie canon tbh
It's not it's just fan fiction with a Hollywood budget
Stop crying
Neither do I.
