I thought of getting one but being a tinkerer I'd want to change the pickups (oh, and because I dont play metal, so I'd want vintage spec pickups). The trouble is finding after-market angled pickups.
Nick B those are pretty normal looking pickups from what i can see, put in angled cavities. You probably need 8 string pickups for the 7 string and 9 string pickups for the 8 string though.
DON'T put normal pickups angled in multi-scale instruments, you'll lose volume in the thicker strings. Blade pickups on the other hand don't care about how they're placed, you can probably find vintage voiced ones.
What if i have a trash metal band and i like the muddy sound would that 7 string be good to practice and even play on a stage? I might upgrade to emg and shield the guitar would that be ok? I want to get a go to 7 string fanfret and i dunno what to expect
The bridge pieces do not make contact with the ground wire or the strings, among other things.. I removed enough paint from them to get continuity from the strings to main ground. Some noise went away. Noise gate cleans it up more. Garbage wiring in an otherwise great guitar!
@@CMDRkarstenvader From what I've read it's been fixed, and they switched to passive pickups. None of the newer reviews I've seen complain about this issue. Also I'm pretty sure they fixed the packaging, cause newer unboxing videos show it being packaged quite nicely, whereas a lot of older reviews say it came in 2 layers of cardboard and was damaged out the box. With that being said i think I'm absolutely getting the 8 string. Edit: nvm the unboxings are from 2017/18. Well mine will only be crossing one border anyways so i don't think it'll get damaged
Dear Sir you point out that is 169 euro (7string) a few times BUT it is not true because you will have to change tunning keys and pu's. If you go cheap you may add 80-100 euros for smaller brand pickups (warman, iron gear etc) and from Thomman an ok lockin tunning 7 string set about 110 euros so we talk about 400 euros aproximately. If the guitar is nice to play ... THEN and only then worth the money the 169. If the feel of the guitar is not 400 euro compatible then it does not worth it. Because I am thinking of doing this I would like your opinion. I am Ok with the maple fretboard...
Oilid I agree, they look good and are cheap. They are good for starting guitarists who don't know if they'll continue. I was thinking of buying one but bought a Jackson instead. HB is still an option for some. Pickups are noisy distorted. Clean sounds are sound decent though.
people will vote with their wallet. if they get a lot of returns because of the pickups.. or people wont buy them.. changes will be made. thanks for the comment
i hope for a 6 string version with maple fretboard
Can we make a pole for more budget extended range 6 strings from Harley Benton?
So good review, sounds like they are ideally mod platforms
Stop the cap
@@harls7317 I don't know if I will "stop the cap".. maybe I should
Great review thanks.

Ah, I can see that now. Thanks for pointing that out. That's a relief. Seymour Duncan make pickups that size. I may have to reconsider ;-)

Costin Simon i should have mentioned that, i just meant normal looking as in not slanted.
Can't you just put seven string pickups in ?
Every time Cory uploads a video I hope it's an update on the HSS strats (Prototype 4/5) :D
Btw, really appreciate the honesty on these reviews.
thanks! and i got no infos about that prototype sadly. all comments were send to HB.. its now on them
Well that's unfortunate, but I guess we will see what they do with them. Anyways, thanks for informing me!
no problems, you are welcome!
So, likely change pickups, and for sure coat the whole inside of the cavity of copper tape to combat noise.
Not a bad deal
Wait you can use copper tape instead of that paint thing?
Thanks for the great review. Do you think these would take a Fishman Fluence 7 set? Do you know that the dimensions of the pickups are?
@Virgil Grin Thanks..yes I know. I have a set lying around that never went on. So was a bit curious.
@Virgil Grin so what?
@Virgil Grin but these guitars are most likely going to be used as mod platforms so that would be fine
moin moin. Hat zufällig irgendwer eine Ahnung, ob der EMG 808X in die 458 fanfret passt? wäre dankbar für jede antwort.
Awesome video just subscribed 👍🏼
Thanks
Great review, just got my 8 string. But going high A tuning

Great review, man. Thanks ! Im gonna buy both AAAAaaand rewire some pickups!!
What would be your recommendations for alternate pickups?
Proven fact is that the noise on these guitars is caused by the grounding issue.
The bridge pieces do not make contact with the ground wire or the strings, among other things.. I removed enough paint from them to get continuity from the strings to main ground.

thanks for this review. What amp u use ? What about the pickups. pretty clean or still kind muddy ? Thanks
Thanks a lot for the very comprehensive review! Do you know if they fixed the muddiness on the 2020 version?
Mine sounds nothing this bad. I got it around 2020. It also has a maple neck.

Hows the tuning stability on harley bentons? Ive been eyeing a 7 string fan fret
Cat seemed to like them :)
Nice background!
thanks.. better then my shitty white walls for sure
How is the neck thickness compared to the Ibanez RG8 ?
Thank you! great review
Other than the pickups and tuners would you say the R457 is a good guitar for modding?
yep... thats exactly my point
Cory Mura great, I’m considering this guitar and later adding EMG or Fishman pickups and locking tuners.
what the music at the end?
How do you rate the improvement from older version?
Swapnaneel Bhattacharjee overall cleaner guitar and the fretwork is spot on. otherwise its the same.. no changes really
I wish hb would make more extended scale 6 strings 🙁
Extended range 6 strings? Do you mean extended scale length 6 string? Because "extended range" 6 string is kind of an oxymoron
@@Mr.Goldbar lol yeah that's what I meant
I wanna throw some licking tuners and Fishman fluence pickups in one of these so bad.

these and a set of EMGs are still a cheap combo :)
i agree!
and i agree too Vuky! 😂
can you confirm that the guitar and the emgs are compatible?
@@emanuelebenassi8834 they are.
I have an 8 string with EMG 808x
The guitars are cool looking... "for some reasons". ☺️

There are better 7/8 strings in the HB range bro!!! ;)
they look like shit! good shit... 😊
good modders base imo
Cory Mura 😁
just subscribe...do it..its not hard

Rather have 6 string instead. Price is right though. Let's see other colors. 6 string please.
i totally fell in love with the cat
I love how many times you say 169 euros.
How do the pickups on these compare to the non fan fretted 8 string? And with the fan fret version it's easy enough to mod to EMG 808x's?
Ayyeee 3yrs later, did you get one? How’d it turn out if so?
They look awesome! Gonna check the 8 string later this year,!!
What are the pickup options for this guitar as i have to change it anyways to make it stage ready
came to the comments for the kitty
Honest Cory strikes again. Sorry HB, but, you need to do some more homework ...
people will vote with their wallet. if they get a lot of returns because of the pickups.. or people wont buy them.. changes will be made.
thanks for the comment
169 euro is also too expensive for me :(
Damnnnn 1:02 why there is the trend to not paint the neck?? it looks so fucking ugly, like there forgoten to paint it ...
You sound like a german😂 Bist du Deutsch?
electric fart machines, Its nearly as bad as Gibson Les Pual 7 String.. xD
Terrible sound.. You can make it sound better. I have this guitar and sounds much better
