When you're playing amazing riffs...and your cat just sits quitely in the background pruning itself!! Always looking forward to your next vid, seriously cool style.
Harley Benton...these people, Thomann, stand behind what they sell. I recently purchased 2 HB's. The Extreme-76 BK Classic ($116) was in 'B' condition and an 8 string R-458 WH Fanfret ($154). The Extreme 76 is amazing, especially for the price. I still don't know why it was a 'B' condition item. The only downside, it is a very heavy guitar. Other than that, sounds and plays excellent. I did have to lower the action a little. The neck is straight and comfortable and the finish is very nice. I did replace the tuners, the stock ones needed to be upgraded, but at the $116 price point, what can you expect? The R-458 arrived with slight head stock damage. This was unexpected, as it was a new condition purchase. The damage occurred during transport. The neck also had 2 spots where there was some rather irritating fret buzz, not due to any shipping damage. Everything else was good, with the exception of the tuners. I purchased this guitar as a gift for a friend of mine, so I was a little tilted about the damage. I took some pictures of the shipping boxes, damage, and wrote up a detailed email to Thomann support. They were amazing! Responded within 24hrs for each time I emailed them. They offered 2 choices; have another R-458 shipped to me at no cost or get full in-store credit...absolutely amazing service! Shipping was only $35 from Germany to AK and it was relatively quick. I think it was about 10 days from order submission to delivery. They ship DHL, DHL transfers to USPS. The DHL tracking number works on USPS's site. www.thomannmusic.com/ kicks ass! Harley Benton, Squier, and Epiphone will be putting AliExpress out of business, and that is not a bad thing, especially after my AliExpress experience! I think I'll be ordering a TE-80 NT Deluxe, TE-70RW Deluxe, or the TE-70 Black Paisley next...which one!?!?! Ugh
Just ordered my second HB, the HB35 plus semi-acoustic. It's not in stock until November but it's definitely something to look forward to :) oh and btw, another GREAT tease vid buddy, keep up the good work.
Man, I LOVE the budget guitars you demo, but sometimes, I will go to look into it, and they are either perpetually out of stock (like with the Firefly 335 copy) or the price has been raised...its not your fault though. Keep on keepin on bro!
Regarding the Firefly Semi Hollow. I was going NUTS for the past 9 months trying that Amazon link and it was sold out until finally......the 1st week of September I snagged 3 of them. It's a sickness I tell ya'!! LOL Either way, the Amazon link is supposed to go live this weekend with more guitars according to the company's FB page. I'd keep clicking that link early in the morning. BTW the price has remained $139 and they seemed to have addressed a lot of the complaints from their earlier builds. Over the past summer I've received some awesome advice from folks on your channel on everything from amps, pedals and even how to tweak my guitars. One of the friendliest corners on youtube!!! Now in keeping with ideas for your channel. Would you be down for a GUITAR MAX BEER CRAWL? We all fly down to LA and pile into a bus that takes us to all the classic rock clubs on the sunset strip. The trip ends with a show with your band playing all the gear you've demoed this year. I'm telling ya'........I think it'd be a hit!
And stil i dont understand al the magnitude of products comming out from al the brands. I cant imagine there is a big enough market for it.stil al the companies keep cramming out production.especially nowadays when most hobbyists can get cheap china gear(wich in lot of cases is way enough for the needs)
+Sjef S, most guitarist and consumers in general still tend to go for name brands instead of cheaper stuff just because of the safety and trustworthiness of the name even if they're overpaying. They don't want to put in the time or effort to look for a similar product at a better price. Also, you would be surprised at the number of guitarists who seem to be afraid of making any kind of adjustments to their instruments or getting their hands dirty at all and a lot of cheaper stuff requires you to make some adjustments once you get it.
ViviSectia true .because most been told thats it hard to make adjustments and especially if you dont know how it schould feel and what it should do.but now in the youtube age if someone isnt too lazy to think and look things up you can come a long way .but my point is there are so many big name (and smaller)companies. With high numbers production and big facillities that house many workers.it seems that every day people would be buying guitars to keep that up.i just dont see the math in the production/ actual sales working out
+Sjef S, it does seem like the quantity should be less but sales figures seem to indicate that's not true. According to rolling stone, a combined of 2.6 million acoustic and electric guitars were sold in the US alone last year so the quantities seem reasonable since apparently people actually are buying guitars every day.
ViviSectia probably its not that noticable because of so many online sales . But stil i do think why gibson is having such a hard time. Back in the day you really had to spend serious money if you needed quality and today there are so many budget options.both smal brands and from the bigger brands like squire. Also budget stuff isnt that bad like in the past.i heard here a lot of times that max tests most straight out of the box
Hy there Guitar Max. That's an awesome Axe. If you don't mind could you tell me what kind of Pick-ups Harley Benton put in that guitar (because they sound awesome). That's a nice kitty you have.
Hi Max, i"m not surprised it's a Harley Benton. Don't know a lot about these fanfrets neither how it's tuned. Is the lowest a drop D and the highest, don't know. And does it needs a lot of getting used to it, because if they gave me an 8 string ,especially a fan fretted, i think i would miss some notes. Thanks Max. Cheers from Belgium.
I noticed you didn't try to play a Barr chord on the first, second or third fret. Looks a strain on any fanned. fret axe , enough to question why to buy one, care to demonstrate?
All your videos are rocking solid man, just wondering will you be doing any effect pedal that is not expensive but will do the job? Thanks in advance man! MABUHAY!
@@GuitarMAXMusic any guitar effects that will help the majority, Or those commonly used effects. Any effects that doesnt suck lol. Thanka again! And So far you are one of the best reviewer that is emerging to the public keep your style unique and rocking!!
Great playing! Love that the cat takes it all in stride! I play guitar and classical violin. I can play the guitar at surprisingly loud volume and the cat wouldn’t care, but take the violin out of the case and the cat runs for the hills! Been a few years since this HBenton review - has the guitar (u still have it?) aged well?
I've seen those Humbuckers before. In fact, I own a set of them! They're Kmise sealed humbuckers, meaning there's no way to get into them. All blocked off with black plastic and 4 lead wire. The pair I have was 12$ U.S. and are made for electric basses. I always wondered if there were actually four pole peices, I bet there is and they just stuck em into this guitar. They sound good here and on bass, they seem to be moderately high output but have a softer tone. At least that's what I experienced.
They most likely have a steel bar as a core like a hotrail or dimebucker. Find out, get a clear plastic box with some iron filings in or green magnet visualisation "paper" or similar. Hold it over the pickup and look at the pattern. A quick and dirty way might be to wrap pickup in a latex glove (or similar) and grind up some wire wool over it. Don't try this without a securely wrapped pickup and remove pickup form guitar to do that.
@@GuitarMAXMusic Phew! I knew I didn't deserve those -5 points!! I'm tempted to get one of these Harley Bentons now. They DO look cool. PS, have you seen those new Rocktile Rickenbacker bass copies? They're on eBay UK for 148 GBP and look great! I mean, who plays stringed instruments and hasn't wanted one of the coolest bass guitars ever???
I think your reason is probably correct, Ronno4691 - and I have watched the other video. The bridge is angled, so the lower / bass strings can be longer, which does allow more tension, but that throws out the intonation - so the fanned frets are there to correct that... I think. I found the intonation gets progressively worse as you play further up the lowest string (E, an octave below low E on a normal guitar). Less so on the A string, pretty close on the D and near perfect on the G. Raising or lowering the strings at the bridge helps, but not enough. I'm not about to try to fit fanned frets, but that would probably be the answer.
Same as any pinch harmonic, but you might have to play around with the placement of where you're picking. I mean, the spot the you pick between the pickups, you can move that up or down (left or right) and get different harmonics. That sometimes makes it easier.
Guitar MAX ok thank you I will mess around more with pinch harmonic locations. I think I found that the thumb needs to touch in a different spot when hitting the low E. Somewhere behind instead of infront of the nail.
As this guy is somewhere in the middle between a baritone ande a standard guitar, it's not really clear to me which is the tune. Is it a standard tuning or downtuned?
I would start out with the basics on a normal 6 string electric first, then once you have that down, then move onto something more advanced. Just my opinion. Good luck!👍😎🎸🎶

Eric Labrek I have one (8 string version) and the pick ups aren't that bad at all. Once you dial in the sound it sounds killer. The key is to NOT dime all the gain up. Fanned frets and how many strings you have should be last of your worries when being a beginner. Just being honest.
If you're a beginner then get a regular 6 string. Maybe a Squier Strat or something.
I highly recommend playing on a 6 string normal fret guitar before you jump to something high like that.
Dont be that guy who doesnt know how to play well and jumps the gun and gets himself a guitar with more guitar than he can use you feel?
