    Thanks, Amanda! Good call keeping your gear in CLEAR bins…I have all mine in solid-colored bins. One time, I almost brought our Christmas decorations camping instead of our gear. Now they’re clearly marked on the side & top!

    Thanks. Using a pillow case for sleeping bag storage is a great idea. My biggest pet peeves are the cleaning and storage of the camp stove and the air mattress ALWAYS leaks. Total garbage 😊😅😅. The manual pump that I was sure would break after a couple uses outlived the mattress 😂. Cleaning your gear is very important. Thanks again 👍🏻😊😊👍🏻 ⛺⛺

    We wash our water jugs with a few scoops of baking soda, and hot water, put the cap back on and give it a really good shake. Rinse thoroughly and I store ours with the cap open to dry out thoroughly. We usually expect 1 day of rain each trip here, so mud on the outside happens and the cap/tap on it we do use soap and water to clean as it can get dirty by the end of the trip.

    Great and timely video. As I started watching I realized I'd not dried out my hammock and tarp after my last trip! It is now hanging up in my (humidity controlled) basement.

    Another great video. We have a couple of bins but they are either too big or small. Those look great. I had no idea that you needed to store your sleeping bags uncompressed. Ordered a couple of large laundry bags that I think should do the trick.

    • @amanda.outside
      @amanda.outside  2 роки тому +2

      Leaving your sleeping bag uncompressed is especially important if you have a down sleeping bag. It's not as important for synthetic sleeping bags, but I still try to give them room to loft up! Large laundry bags would be perfect!

    i use those big water containers and after a trip I use boiling water (or as hot as the container can handle) with a little course sea salt, seal it and shake it. Drain it with several rinses, and air dry as you mentioned. Also do this with my water bottles as well, might not do anything but makes me feel better.

    Spot ON, I use totes too, store them in the corner of my bedroom, take them down to the car and I'm 80% set... I hang my sleeping bags in the closet so they don't get mashed and lose all their 'loft/warmth'

    What happens if we store sleeping bag compressed?

    • @CaliforniaHalo
      @CaliforniaHalo 2 роки тому +2

      Yes, I would like to know too! I always store mine compressed in the bag it came in. And they sell them that way so I wonder why we shouldn't.

    • @amanda.outside
      @amanda.outside  2 роки тому +2

      If you keep your sleeping bag compressed for a long time, especially a down sleeping bag, it won't loft up as well the next time you go to use it, and therefore it won't keep you as warm. This isn't as much of a concern with a synthetic sleeping bag, but I still wouldn't store it in a compression sack for long periods of time.

    Ok....you guilted me in to making sacks out of old sheets so I can store my good sleeping bags lofted ad opposed to a stuff sack in a hot attic. Sorry, I'm sure that made you cringe.
