- Sportscaster Bob Rathbun suffered an on-air medical emergency during an Atlanta Hawks basketball game. Rathbun slowly slumped in his chair and then started to convulse while commentating on the game. As Rathbun loses consciousness, someone off-camera reaches in to help him as the camera cuts away. His rep said in a statement to Inside Edition that the 68-year-old announcer "briefly lost consciousness on the court." “Emergency medical professionals on-site quickly treated Rathbun for dehydration,” the statement continued.
I had a brain aneurysm in 2010 and the paramedics told my wife I was severely dehydrated. There is more going with this man. God bless him 🙏🏾

He fainted. Embarrassing, but likely not a medical emergency.
As someone who has seizures, I have no idea what I look like when it happens. I just wake up on the floor (or in an upside down vehicle in someone’s front yard), generally with some kind of injury to my face or head, completely confused as to where I am or what is happening.
Dehydration may have been a contributing factor but it definitely wasn’t the sole reason he was convulsing.
Yeah my sister’s husband had similar happen multiple times and he’d also get extremely out of it and as if he was drunk, unable to walk, etc and they said it was just dehydration, but he’s been getting more tests done and indicates more is going on with heart and such

I'm a medical professional, and I saw these exact symptoms on someone who was dehydrated. It's important to always call for help because their could be some underlying health concerns that you aren't aware of.
In an older person, dehydration can definitely cause a lot of medical problems. It's very possible this gentleman has diabetes or some other condition that can also lead to dehydration. As a younger person, you'd never consider how important hydration is. Almost every time my dad got ill enough that I needed to contact EMS, it would turn out he would be just fine once he was given an IV bag of fluids.

I can guarantee you that nobody who witnesses such an episode feels anything other than great empathy for that person. Let’s just keep embarrassment for those times when we act like total jerks 🤗
Don't feel embarrassed about something like that. When I was a kid I was the second worst medical case in western NY. I would pass out and nobody knew why. Till they did a tilt table test and my heart stopped. And found out I have what's called vasovagal syncope. Not exactly the same as a seizure. But it would cause me to straight up pass out all the time. My blood pressure wasn't regulating itself right. My heart rate was 30 to 40 beats per minute and when I would sleep it dropped to 20 to 30. The doctors used to joke with me and say "well you have no heart rate so you must be dead". I became such a liability at school from just randomly dropping, I had to be homeschooled for awhile because the school didn't want me there. Long story short, I stopped caring what other people thought about my medical condition. I even defied all odds and overcame that health issue and was later able to join the Army and serve for almost 10 years. The doctors told me if I didn't take a beta blocker all my life that I would need a pace maker by my late 20s. I don't know how I defied the odds and overcame it all but I'm grateful. Occasionally I'll get symptoms that warn me I might pass out, like extreme dizziness. But I haven't blacked out since my teen years. Because I'll know I need to lay flat or I'm passing out. Just don't feel bad about something you can't control. It's not worth getting upset over.
After both of my seizures I didn't know name and also wet myself luckily I was surrounded by the best colleagues ever who were trained in first aid. They had my back and the ambulance was quick too. God bless and get well soon 🙌 🙏 🤍🤍💙💙🏴🏴
