  • Today on Wristwatch Obsession I do a 2 week on the wrist review of the Casio G-Shock GMW-B5000TVB-1. Big thumbs up on this sweet titanium square.
    * Wristwatch check watch was a G-Shock Square Teal color motif for the Japanese market model number GW-M5610BA (with Solar & Multi-Band 6) on a Casio Combi-Bracelet that I added.

    For a year i have owned this model and i use it daily from casual to formal ocassion. No regret buying this and i never get bored looking at this watch. This watch definitely have a bit of military vibe and it does look mature because of the color combination coffee color. Definitely will keep this watch forever.

    I own this watch for over a year and still love it. I do not baby it though. A gshock is made to be able to take a beating and this is one of the most durable G's yet. I wore it all the time on my trip through Cambodia and Vietnam (tunneling, caving, hiking, rock climbing, bike trips etc). It has a few marks but they just remind me of a great adventure.

    Scratches give character to a watch. Watches shouldn't be kept in a box. They should be enjoyed and worn.

    Surprised this one gets so little noise by YT WC,like the GMW500TVA got a few years back .
    Got one when was released,no complains or regret,just get another metal G even one with just the case and the difference in weight is impressive.
    The fine detailing and the coating only gets justice when is you pick up in your hands,no camera can do it right.
    Good to see another one on YT being reviewed!

    I have this watch and love your review as it confirms many of the reasons I bought and love this watch. I'm in two minds about getting it scratched up because I think the design of this watch if the case and bracelet got scratched up it would actually look really good but I don't want to test that theory so I am babying it. A little tip is put sellotape over the clasp, it stops the clasp getting scratched up when desk diving .

    • @WristwatchObsession
      @WristwatchObsession  Рік тому +1

      That's a good idea with the tape. I wear this watch often but never working in the yard etc where I might do more than normal wear. I mentioned in the video the clasp had wear but the faded area on the bottom was actually grime from the kitchen, I was able to clean it off and it looks like new no wear yet. 3 links of the bracelet near the clasp have mine scuff marks as one is seen in the video.. this is the area that all my bracelet watches get scratches though. So far it still looks pretty new overall.

    • @RJ-cq8dd

      I really think this watch would still look great with wear. Suits the camo style.

    • @williamlane7160
      @williamlane7160 Рік тому

      If it does get scratched a useful tip is to
      Use a Scotch brite green cleaner, use it gently on the scratches have the scotch brite damp
      It will take off the scratches, another one that I use for scratches is dura gilt waddling,

    • @RJ-cq8dd
      @RJ-cq8dd Рік тому

      @@williamlane7160No one should do that. It removes scratches by removing a small layer of the watch. So you are slowly removing that nice camo coating. I already have some light scratches because it is my travel watch. Scratches tell stories. A watch without scratches is a watch that hasn't lived.

      @WristwatchObsession  Рік тому

      Thank you! The watch wears larger than the horizontal 43mm would suggest. The lug to lug is about 50mm.. This watch is the same size as the resin squares that Macy's or Walmart etc. carries so you can try one one of the resin ones to see how the size works for you.

      @@WristwatchObsession got the watch in but it was SO small on me, im a pretty big guy and even my 5 year old looked at my watch and said "daddy, your watch is so little" lol, when he said that i took it off, sent it back to Casio. The watch craftsmanship was gorgeous, i love the way it looks, just wish it was bigger. Just to make sure i wasn't being to critical i asked my wife to try it on, shes petite, 5"4, 115lbs, and she said it small but fit her nice. Anyways, just my two cents, wish they would make one a bit bigger in this same design.

    So, to follow up on my earlier comment: I almost bought one of these. But it came down to one comment you made about this that stopped me, and MIGHT continue to stop me on these titanium’s. That is “taking care of my nice watches.” I have a couple nice watches, of varying degrees. One being a Breitling Aerospace Avantage. That one probably has the least wrist time… because I want to preserve it. And I’d be similar with this. But that isn’t what a G-Shock should be. I still want to get this watch… but I want a g-shock to be a watch that I can work on my car, garden, mow the yard,, garden, and shovel horse sh**, and keep on going. And I just can’t convince myself that I’d do that with this g-shock. Which really detracts from its value to me. I ended up going with the GMW-B5000GD-1. Which I intend to beat the ever loving sh** out of. And I’ll still likely try to save to get one of these titanium’s. But only if/when I think I can convince myself to treat it like a g-shock.

    • @WristwatchObsession
      @WristwatchObsession  Рік тому

      Sorry for the late reply.. I use to have a Breitling Aerospace Advantage, I remember it as being one of my all time favorite watches. The LCD was so easy to read, and the functions were very ergonomic for the time.
      You bring up a very interesting point... if I don't wear a watch often, and it becomes a safe queen it ends up getting sold for something I'll wear.
      I have limited money for watches, so expensive gets treated well I just can't beat them up and turn a $1500 watch into a $400 watch and lose $1100.
      or I end up with a watch that looks bad. I think the watches with designs like this, or the circuit board one will get nicked and marked up easily under heavy use and will just look bad.. IDK i've never seen one in bad condition.
      I think plain SS or the black one you got do way better for everyday use and get character and patina. I still have my stainless steel full metal but sold the all gold one, but i miss that gold one and may buy one again one day mint used, etc. It's just such a beautiful watch, even though I never go for gold watches at all.

    I found this watch an interesting example of modern manufacturing technology. I was tempted but the MSRP was too high. A UK retailer sold some at Xmas but I now see a high % have been returned and are being sold a discounted rate. I am curious why so many people have decided to return the watch. Being middle aged, I think the display and font size on the 5000 series is more suitable to those with the sharper vision amongst us. I am curious however why so many people have decided to return the watch. I note that Casio UK have high stock levels, this may just be the high MSRP. Any thoughts out there?

    • @WristwatchObsession
      @WristwatchObsession  Рік тому +2

      I agree it is indeed a high price, much more than the previous titanium LEs at around $1200 or so.
      I couldn't justify the price so I waited until an AD had a double discount, very rare on a G-Shock but I got it for $1450 which was much better but still high. I did notice though the $3000 USD and $4000 squares, and the Japanese sword guy making a design on a large metal G at $8000!
      Insanity..
      I thought for sure that this model was going to disappear from the suppliers in a few weeks of release but they are still available. I never know how many they make, I don't think they publish that but they are lingering around. So I've noticed what you did. I think I like the original Virtual Armor black one better now that I have this version, seems like it will go with more attire.

I take care of it and never use while doing yard work, etc.. but it still has scratches and scuffs to the coating in the usual places an all metal watch gets - outer side wrist area and clasp of the bracelet.. left side of watch case.. scratches and scuffs from hitting door knobs, desk, etc during normal wear. I think any of these coated watches are going to get these sort of things.. still looks cool though, with the writing that a military vehicle or plane has and that has been in service awhile.

There are no deep scratches and nothing that reached the titanium. There are a few small scuffs or nicks to the bezel, again not down to metal and not too noticeable. Overall holding up well.

      Bluetooth allows connection to a smart phone with G-Shock app. The watch will connnect to the phone a few times a day to update the time to world atomic time. Also push a button on the watch to connect to the app and you can use the phone to set alarms, set the 5 world time clocks, and set the countdown timer time.
      The watch can do all these things also without a smart phone.
      One thing the watch can't tell you is the power level of the battery, you have to go into the app to see the level. I wish they included it on the watch like the non bluetooth versions.
