Dunno about the rest but I’d say he’s likely the most academically excelled of the group. Even members of gwar pit and costume stuff are smart people. Unlike other bands where they’re just musicians or flunked out hs students. They’ve all gone to college
A few months after 9/11 happened my friend Fred and I caught The Dave Brockie Experience at CBGBs. Between sets we were having a cigarette outside when Dave and Mike Derks (Balsac The Jaws of Death) came outside and bummed a cigarette off of us. We spoke not a word about anything Gwar related, no nothing. For 10 or so minutes we all talked about the tragedy we had just experienced in NY (me from Brooklyn and my friend Fred from Queens) At any other time, we woulda been star struck. Though Fred and I kinda were, the frank talk about the death and destruction we experienced as a city (and country), it just felt like four dudes talking about life and having a cigarette. It was a great moment...one I'll never forget. RIP Dave
DBX is still my favorite band...at the pound rules, but theres a lot of dbx on youtube...rawg is pretty great also...man i miss em...rip brockie...blothar does a good job...he grows on ya...lol ,gwar is not just for kids anymore
I saw GWAR in Portland, OR back in like 2003. The show was so incredible and I'll never forget it. It's just crazy on top of crazy on top of more crazy. Such great fun!
I saw them years back in Seattle with napalm death and cannibal corpse. I slipped on some gwar blood in the moshpit and fractured my elbow after getting kicked in the mouth by a crowdsurfer. It was a damn fun night.
For a scumdog berzerker, Blothar is surprisingly personable! Though no one can ever replace Dave Brockie, Dr. Michael Bishop does a good job with his own take. Makes me feel good knowing Gwar is still out there.
Holy shit! I saw Gwar 30 fuckin years ago at the Niabingi in Morgantown Wv. They sprayed the audience with indelible die. Half the crowd was pink, the other half was dyed purple.the people in the middle were half and half...that shit didn’t come off for weeks and whenever ya saw someone who was at the show you could tell instantly where they were at in the audience...it was some kind of weird bonding experience!
Yep and they’re kicking off their 30 yr anniversary tour of Scumdogs of the universe this fall so check the dates at their website for a city near you. They still spray the crowd with multi colored fake blood, jizz and what not.
i got the chance to see them once. i forget who opened for them, but when they sprayed the crowd with urine and blood, it was quite welcome because it was hot as hell in that venue.
Cannibal corpse is more my thing when it comes to crazy eat everyone art, but gwar has a comedic overtone that is hard to resist. Dave brockie was a genius, for sure.
Haven't been to a Gwar show since Oderus passed on right after the Detroit show. I used to go every year to the Harpos show and even traveled a few times to see them. I may have to get out and go see them this year.
Oh yeah. He is a HUGE metalhead. I remember on The Five they had this thing where they would let one person pick the "back from break" music for entire show. On Greg's days....it was always Thrash, Death Metal, and Punk. I use to LOVE seeing the other host make faces at him lol.
He's a devotee of all things Mike Patton and Devin Townsend. I disagree with his politics and find him unfunny, but appreciate him for getting metal bands on cable news.
Wow, this is one of the saddest comment sections I've seen in a while. Gwar isn't dead. They still put on great shows. The man playing Blothar is the original bass player for Gwar. Hell, the drummer and rhythm guitarist have been in the band since the late 80's.

I saw them live for the 1st time this past saturday at the Rockbox. The show was amazing, listening to their music or watching their videos is one thing. But seeing them live is another experience, I will see them again and again if they come back another tour!!!! THANKS GWAR
Not the same without Oderus Urungus! Just my opinion. My band opened for them in the 80's pre-Scum Dogs of the Universe I believe. They were smart a.f. dudes extremely approachable and humble.
