Actually not nocturnal. They have two timeframes of activity around dusk and dawn with sleep cycles also offset around those times. My cats generally sleep from about 12:00 to 4 in afternoon and at night about the same times, but they love the cuddle routine entwined before or during the nap and before or during evening sleep cycle with their humans.
I was waiting for him to say settle, sleep No! Rofl 🤣 because he wanted to play jingle ball, and get brushed. I was watching Todd look at Paulie and watching Paulies and Todd's ears go back and forth 😂😂😂. Love this conversation and the beautiful fluff balls!❤
I am beyond amazed at Todd using the word settle. I am guessing that’s the first time he has used it, but he clearly showed understanding of the word and it’s meaning. And he was jumping on the bandwagon to say OK so we will settle and go to sleepand he didn’t ask anymore games or toys. He is brilliant.

The message I'd get from him pressing all the buttons that would require you to stop what your doing and interact with him in some way is "Dad, stop working and pay attention to me, and do it now"

He thinks about this, watches Dad with his lovely eyes and sees that settle is what is going to happen. I was looking at Paulie and noticed he got alert when Todd asked for Jingle Ball. Paulie has mixed feelings about interacting with Todd over Jingle Ball and.seemed relieved that that game was not to be played. All the kitties seemed to understand words even though they do not use the buttons.
Aw Todd baby boy!😢 This made me feel quite sad for Todd as he obviously wanted some Dad hugs. His eyes were huge, he kept looking at Dad and thinking about it, and he was really quite insistent too, so he must have been in urgent need of Dad hugs, bless his heart.❤
Yes, Paulie listens and seems to understand a lot of Todd's buttons but when Dad tried to teach Paulie and Glamour to use the buttons they have shown no interest.

I was pleased to see that Paulie - upon be roused from nearby the desk, and starting to run out - stopped and took a long hard look at Todd, then decided to flop down and relax. I guess he was still positioned to make s speedy exit if necessary. But it's good to see Paulie more relaxed around Todd now that T9dd is being kinder to Paulie. I know it took no small amount of work by Mom and Dad to transform those sibling dynamics!

It's quite common in multi-cat households that only one cat chooses to use the buttons. And very sweetly they ask for things for the other cats. Todd has done so by requesting a toy that Glamour likes and by suggesting things for Paulie. I believe belly rubs was his last suggestion but Dad said Paulie doesn't like belly rubs. 🙂
I definitely think Todd is getting it. He's a good boy. I do feel sorry for him in that he is a cat. His body clock at night is telling him he should run around and be a little predator. He's got night vision! It's time to go hunting that jingle ball!
With our kids we got into a routine of settling down an hour before bed, bedtime routine; bath, pajamas, comb hair, brush teeth, story time, then quiet time an hour after the kids were put to bed. So bedtime was really 2-3 hours long... but it help them sleep through the night. My "me time" was usually reading or painting so I wasn't too loud. Then I would watch TV on low volume or play computer games with my spouse after the hour was up.
Todd can’t understand the Yes when nothing happens. He needed to hit the NOW! button. Maybe Todd wanted to HELP Dad to settle and sleep, as Dad is still on the computer. Cats do think that they are the Boss, and they look after us, not the other way around.
Soon, he’ll have you reading him a bedtime story every night. 😸😸😸
