Just love the way he contemplated the string thing then picked it up and off he went to find you. That definitely constitutes "later" by any measure. What a champ.
The remarkable thing to me is that Todd decided to use exactly the right position to carry the string-thing most easily. Not only rembering but planning how to transport as well ;-)
My cat Hobbes preferred drinking out of the tub (is that weird?). My family all got in the habit of putting the stopper in the drain and filling it up a little bit. One time, my mom was sitting at the computer in the living room. Without having said anything, Hobbes came right up to her and dropped the stopper at her feet and looked up at her. “Oh, do you need some water?” He immediately started waking for the bathroom. That’s when we realized…”oh…he doesn’t have a lot to say (not very talkative) but he’s obviously intelligent. 😊
Cats really prefer fresh / running water. They do not like water that has been sitting still too long. I wonder if your cat developed that habit because their water bowl wasn't getting refreshed/cleaned enough. Not saying you did anything wrong, but maybe your cat is just extra picky? If you want it to stop drinking from the tub maybe try more frequent refreshes of it's water bowl.
@@Drazil100 He lived many more years after that time but he passed away back in 2019. He never liked drinking out of a bowl even when the water was fresh. 🤷♂️😉
Of course he remembers! Animals have to remember where food and water are, where predators hide, and reorganize in response to shifting resources caused by the seasons or competition. Cats may not "schedule" far into the future, but that seems to be lack of interest in the far future, not the *past* vanishing into nothingness. Organizing your day's activities is just good use of your time :D
To hear a cat plan out their day is pretty amazing. Ive never doubted that animals are smart but its hard to know how they think. The buttons are helping now to discover some of that! 😮😃
@@meiru2453 Such a claim is amazing against all the evidence of work done daily with military dogs, police dogs, BP dogs, Search & Rescue dogs, and Service Dogs.
@meiru2453 I think they honestly don't want to know, because imagine how horrible those scientists would feel if they knew what they did to those poor creatures in labs. Their guilt condoms the idea of animals having emotions and abilities to communicate intelligent ideas, etc.
I thought i could watch this episode while eating but i almost choked from laughter, Thank you Dad for posting all this moments for other to enjoy as well. take care and Great Weekend to All.
Hahaha... That made me laugh out loud - especially as he's bringing the string thing to you to play with him. I wasn't sure what he was looking at the other end for at first, until he picked it up and I saw the wand end that you would hold.
Yup me too! The later comes much quicker. I think the more they use the buttons the less time to think about the words/location of the buttons. Like us learning a new language the more we practice, the better we get.
I've had many cats, but never knew how smart they realy are. Thank you so much for teaching us about this marvelous felines through sharing Todd's chronicles.
Oh my goodness he is such a character! Upstairs, downstairs, it's all his domain and he SAID later, and you didn't come back, so he took it to you. Demands will be met DAD, wherever you are!!
Reminds me of when Billi brought Fan toy up the stairs and asked for her Dad to play the fan toy. He was confused about where it was, and Katie laughed when she found out she tried to bring it upstairs. I do miss Billi, but it's nice to see cats like Todd continuing to honor her legacy by having our companions communicate with us, not just through buttons, but also body language and actions. I told my wife about how Todd asked for the String Thing later and that he brought it downstairs to let you know he wanted to play with it. She thought that was actually cute.
So special when you have cuddle time. I have 4 kitties and none of them truly enjoy cuddling. I wish they did. Love to watch you cuddle your sweet Todd.❤❤❤
I feel your pain! I have 2 girls and they love pets and scritches. But neither enjoy being picked up for any reason. I get my snuggles in when they each come to tuck me in at night, and that doesn't last long. I also wish they'd enjoy being brushed, but no. Instead I regularly find cat hair and dust bunnies in sizes that could make an extra cat! Oh well, they don't have buttons, but we get each other (on their terms, of course)!
Todd is such a beautiful (i know i should say handsome) cat that I’d want to hold him 24/7! I love seeing the videos, even though i have 2 cats and 7 grand cats of my own.
An order had been placed in in good time. Enough waiting had been done for "later". - What must a cat do then? A cat must do, what a cat must do, and to take the matter into his own mouth and paws.... and get (string)things going. ❤🐾
I was interested to see just how fascinated Glamour was with Todd's belly rubs. Like she cannot understand how Todd can stand Dad touching him so much, in such a weird position, and that Todd somehow seems to enjoy it. Glamour just can't take her eyes off of it. Too funny.
Good for Todd! Love that he reminded you. I like your animated arrows to show passage of time. Reminds me of the French accented narrator in Sponge Bob Squarepants..."a few minutes later." I am also glad to see you spend some time with the wife!
Totally adorable. I am wondering if Todd would enjoy co-teaching a kitten to talk. The talking Bonobo, Kanji, interacted via buttons with his own child. When I see Todd look at Glamour, who for some reason couldn't pick up the buttons, when she also gets something that Todd has asked for, I wonder if he wishes that Glamour had language. I wonder too if Todd would use the buttons to communicate with another cat, if they shared that skill, particularly when Dad is on a business trip or is downstairs with Mom. I wonder if having the enhanced agency that shared language provides, but also with his fellow animal(s) would improve the quality of his life. I know you already have 3 cats, but couldn't help but speculate. What a treasure you and Todd have in each other. Thanks for sharing with us.
Cats are able to communicate with each other pretty good actually. Todd let the family know that Glamour’s back was hurting. How would he have known if she didn’t “tell him”?
Our language is ours, not theirs, it's as a foreign language to them. They don't need it between themselves and even with other species, as their natural communication is clear, efficient and successful. Todd uses it only with his person. Animals regularly teach their young (or juniors) to do as they do, whether regarding natural skills or the ones they need with us, just as Service Dogs teach their juniors.
@@firecwby1999 I'm sure she did communicate that to Todd, but it was also visible just by watching her move, walk, as her movements were altered, more rigid, significantly less flexible, and her topline (spinal profile) was visibly different from her norm.
LOLOLOLOLOLOL OMG that is incredible. I dont use buttons, but just knowing their level of comprehension really changes the level of interaction with your pets. Amazing
We call our string things ‘fishin pole toys’ 😂 but they drag them everywhere too!!! We’ll be playin’ and they’ll snatch it so hard & just run off with it 😂😂😂😂 we find them everywhere too 🤷♀️
I can't help but notice that Glamour is also paying very close attention to what you're saying to Todd. I wouldn't be surprised if she knows most if not all of the words on the buttons, especially since she sometimes "accidentally" presses appropriate ones.
I laughed when Todd picked up the string thing & went downstairs. He’s just too stinkin adorable, confident & smart! 🥰😍😻😘 He’s like “Well, well, well, looks like I have to take the matter into my own hands!” 😂
That was hilarious! Watching sitting upstairs by string thing thinking well, this is no fun, and figuring out the solution, and downstairs he and string thing goes! We regular fans were surprised to see Dad pet Glamour without asking and get away with it! One time only, surely, but rules still apply!
Could you maybe ask Todd some questions that are based on 'yes' & 'no' questions that he might understand? It's questions I would like to ask if I had this set up and still have a cat. Things like 'Do you understand what I say okay?' or 'are you happy'? 'Do you like this sound' etc. I know he wont understand everything because its like speaking in French when you are English. He's learnt words for images and memories in his head. Like ' treat' he has a memory or image of treat. It would be a great experiment. Maybe people could like this comment if they would also like to see this. This is what I dreamt about as a kid, being able to communicate with animals. Turns out, we can absolutely do so.
Todd uses all his words, some a lot more than others but he knows and remembers them. I have only removed two buttons, he knew them but would not use them. Catnip, Todd is not a fan, and Crazy Hamster that was a toy that rolled around on the floor on its own. IT rolled onto Glamour and got stuck in her fur. After seeing it "attack" Glamour he never asked for it again.
This video absolutely proves Todd knows what you are saying.... Todd definitely understands Hooman Language. Todd is an amazing creature.... Top Cat IMHO.
The videos could be kind of "interactive" just for fun. Todd stretches right before hitting a button, and the video pauses, and then the viewers are asked: "What button will Todd press next?". We get 4 choices. At the end of the week, the person in your household with the most correct choices, wins cuddles from everyone else in the house! 😉😽🐈
Wow! Todd's memory and communication skills are phenomenal! He blows me away. 😮😊
Just love the way he contemplated the string thing then picked it up and off he went to find you. That definitely constitutes "later" by any measure. What a champ.

Its crazy that scientists disproved the possibility of communication with animals without conducting such a test. Buttons keep proving otherwise.

To a cat, the doodad on the end of a wand toy is functioning as prey. When Cat captures prey, Cat wants (and feels the need) to keep it! 🙂
