- This video will show you how to use Ecommerce SEO to get more traffic (and customers) to your online store.
How?
By focusing on the top 4 most critical ranking factors that go into ranking ecommerce websites. Of course, I cover all 4 of these factors in the video.
But I'll also list them here as a reference.
First up, we have your site's overall link authority. This is determined by the quality and quantity of the backlinks pointing to your site. The thing is, most ecommerce sites think that they can rank with product and category pages alone. But you can't. Like any website, backlinks are important for ecommerce sites. I show you how to build links to your ecommerce site in the beginning of the video.
Next up, we have product page optimization. Most of your organic search engine traffic will likely go to your product pages. And I show you the 4 steps that I use to optimize product pages quickly.
Once your most important pages are optimized, it's time to dig into your site architecture. This is something that's more technical SEO focused, but it can make or break your ecommerce SEO efforts (that's because your site likely has hundreds or even thousands of pages). The organization of these (also known as your website architecture) is key.
Lastly, it's time to optimize your URLs. I reveal some data about which URLs tend to rank best in Google.

I have been designing an e-commerce website for my business. The way that i did this was to pay for a short SEO course and watch a few youtube videos.
I then watched a few of yours. The end result my website design has been thrown on a bonfire. I will start from scratch again with the information that I have received from your videos. In my opinion they are Tina Turner - simply the best!

Note: Publish valuable content, increase DA for product and category pages, add modifiers to product page title tags (cheap, deals, review, best, online, free shipping), add magnet words to title (x% off, guarantee, lowest price, free shipping, overnight shipping, sale), 1,000 words of content on most important product pages, long product titles for 10 most important product pages, include target keyword 3-5 times, product pages no more than 3 clicks from home page, short url length 👍
Here in Brazil people promise to deliver content, but they actually never do. Just use a very superficial content to bring people to sales pages. Just launch my ecommerce website 2 days ago. I gotta say, I feel like I launch my website to soon, I don't know anything about SEO or any marketing strategy besides FB. But heck, I always learn through experience, and thanks to videos like these I can give myself a fighting chance to drive traffic to my website and hopefully succeed. I'll give myself 3 months if I feel like I did everything I can, but my page is still at the very bottom of google then I'll just switch to another niche and use everything I learn to succeed in that niche. Just rinse and repeat, and learning through the process. Good luck to me!

A) do you have a 2019/20 updated video on this topic and B) What if you're trying to rank a product category first and foremost and then as product purchases validate an idea, then work seo for said product. As I can upload 50 products a day it would be a nightmare to try and rank each product out of the gate. Thanks

One queston. I don't see Blogging (apart from the Round up idea) mentioned or any other strategies to create backlinkgs to your website. Would you rank those 2 lower than the round up as a 1st step?

Brian, do you suggest finding additional categories your current product inventory can fit into in order to have more pages ranking (assume kw research)? Additionally, do you know of any major differences between bigcommerce and Shopify from an SEO perspective?

I'd like to see you on Udemy. I paid a small fee to learn how to build a UA-cam channel. The guy teaching the course was great like yourself. He showed us his personal experience with traffic and ranking when first started on UA-cam as well as Udemy. In a very short time frame he had tons of cross marketing between these two and landed some gigs for work on the side. I feel like you could easily set up a Udemy course and gain a lot of attention and cash worldwide. The guy that I was taking the course from, used half of his UA-cam videos in his course. Very Nice Brian, Blogging is not enough, its part of it. E-commerce for a year nothing is happening, the theme is poor, images need a major upgrade. Now, the store needs SEO tricks without going black hat. I am thinking the white hat is better. The big thing I can't focus on sites if I am building sites and SEO. Sales or Sites E-com requires product updates, taxes, shipping and CS. I am thinking may need to start over and rethink this with your help.

I've been working with your "Ecommerce SEO: The Definitive Guide", doing an audit/upgrade on the SEO that I used for my site when I transitioned to Shopify. I really appreciate how you show each step involved - it makes it easy to pinpoint the gaps in my work. Once I'm done with infrastructure, I'll cycle back to blogging (with my keywords in hand). My observation about content marketing for an ecomm site is this - the competitive ecomm sites that I benchmark don't have any content marketing at all. Nada. Yet, their domain authority is much greater. I guess I could use MOZ or maybe SEM Rush to identify their backlinks and try to find similar types of backlinks. Generally, high authority backlinks come from industry publications - which I can get, as long as I buy advertising or advertorial. I'm a solopreneur, so I really don't have a lot of time to devote to contacting other sites for backlinks. I've had some sites contact me, but it doesn't seem to be a common practice in ecomm. How should I approach all of this? Thanks for all the help.
Yes, reverse engineering their backlinks could help. But ultimately, to boost your domain authority, you'll need content + email outreach. Not easy but worth it.

I have an active email list of 3500 or so that I've built via advertising mostly (FB, Pinterest, Shopping Campaigns), but I can't afford to build the business solely with advertising. Your guide says organic SEO can contribute up to 30% of traffic...that's a decent bump - enough to take time out of the content/blogging to make sure the basics are in place. I'll prioritize the return to content generation over chasing backlinks. Thanks, that's what I need to figure out!
