If he skirts those laws or crosses them, or anyone in his company does, he is required by law to take that accountability on his shoulders and to answer for it. It does not matter what his skill or trade is. He is called the chief executive officer for a reason. So Hawley did exactly what the government should, hold powerful people to account for their own failings.

@@buddah3414 IG requires that you must be AT LEAST 13 years old to use it. And MUST clearly state that a parent/guardian is managing the profile if less than 13. Implying that the site IS SAFE for anyone under the age of 18 to use.

Parents need to be more aware and serious as well. Many parents go along with their children doing inappropriate things just to please them. Children need to be educated as well on this. Schools aren’t doing anything to educate students as well
I think we could all agree that parents must take responsibility for their children, and that while, even with the best efforts, your children will see it anyway. To be fair, everyone should also be held accountable for what they feed the public. It's not really one sided, like most things.
I gave up and got out of FB in 2016 and never looked back. How people still use that platform is beyond me!

I am so glad Josh is going hard against institutions harming kids 100%. But as a mom of a preteen I have to ask, where were the parents? My daughter is not allowed on ANY social media platform for this reason. I have full parental controls enabled on her phone. If she somehow did get a social media account, she would lose her phone privileges. Period. I am responsible for her online/offline safety. However, it’s good to see the dangers being exposed & I understand parents can’t be everywhere all the time. Good for Sen. Josh helping us protect our children. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

This doesn't necessarily reflect on a parent's competence at parenting, but as an IT professional, if I had kids, I'm confident that eventually they would be able to find ways around any safeguards I put in place, and it's my job to prevent adults from doing exactly that.each generation is crafty about that sort of thing because they have easy access to all the knowledge we have to put those safeguards in place in the first place.
That said, you're not wrong. Parents should strive to know as much as possible about what their kids are doing, but at the same time it doesn't absolve the companies from doing their part to prevent these situations as well.
