    Terrific boat. 2023 delivery date still available? That's not going to last long. Cats this nice, that don't cost $2m are now at least 3 years out. Outremer 55s I heard are now 5 years (but that was two European boat shows ago - likely it's now even longer.) This is why it took me less than five minutes to decide to order my cat.

      We've also heard that many factories can only work on 2, maybe 3 boats at a time. Max cruise has the capability of working on 5 at the moment, with the possibility of renting more space and amping up production to having even more builds going at one time. ❤

    What a great boat! So glad you got to spend time at the company and on a finished boat as well. I'm sure it was bittersweet knowing you still have a ways to go on your own, but like you said, it was encouragement to continue your build and get to the water. Thanks, as always, for bringing us along on your adventures. Looking forward to your return trip for the hybrid outing. Take care!

      It is a little bittersweet knowing how far we have to go to finish our own, but luckily she's on her way to the Eastern Seaboard as we speak, so there will be plenty more sails when we need a break. 😃♥️

    Would love it if you can get as much video as humanly possible for two people to get showing how skilled workers build a boat. For me, that is like going carnegie hall to listen to a concert after I have spent the last couple of months struggling learning to play the piano.

    It looks like a fantastic boat. It’ll be interesting to see how Your boat compare to new catamarans that the people at Ruby Rose and Curiosity are getting. They are all new constructions and all in the 44-46 feet area and interesting enough they are all performance oriented. Good luck with Your project.

    What a beautiful Catamaran as you said, the deck is so spacious is absolutely gives a stunning appearance. This trip will charge your batteries and inspire you as well. So when you get back home you'll be raring to go and get back at her. congrats. Some day God willing I'll be able to venture out as well and purchase a Cat and travel the deep blue seas. Those storm clouds look pretty nasty. Time to drop the sails and head on in for sure. Gorgeous Boat you guys must be stoked.

  • @bunyipdan
    @bunyipdan 2 роки тому

    Hull No 1 is looking fantastic, no wonder you guys are so stoked, very clean and well resolved. One of my first thoughts was how well the boat seemed to be coping with all the Water Hyacinth in the river, would have been nice to see how the cassette rudder system worked clearing the debris, guess one of the only times a mini keeled option could have been benificial ...... potentially reducing fouling.
    I guess from a superficial look at the boat there are only 3 areas I would consider addressing in regard to design (this is very picky) .....
    ▪ it would be great if the forward cabin/saloon windows could be larger, full height
    ▪ A hinged or removable floor cap/panel over the rudder cassette mechanism (probably only require either lifting the floor an inch or dropping the rudder cassette an inch to allow for a cleaner look and less exposed crittical moving gear.
    ▪ Personally not a fan of the helm position on this model, would much rather not hanging my butt over the transom as a primary steering position. Swing helm great, but my preference would be a "Versa Helm" type arrangement further fwd closer to cabin bulkhead. Less exposed and inherently safer IMHO

    I cut my sailing teeth on a catamaran my father and I built when I was 16 (now 62). I now sail mono-hulls. Cats are great particularly with room and speed and sailing close to the wind however more of a challenge to come about. Pros and Cons of course however more pros for cats. My recommendation is to ensure you have an escape hatch. Fair winds!

    So many interesting features in one build! Cassette rudders, daggerboards, articulating dual aft helms, and outboards on a 44ft cat! Max Cruise is ticking all the boxes. Would love to see a detailed walk through of all systems. Comparison of engine options, helm locations, and cockipt layouts. Keep the great content coming!

    She looks like a beautiful boat and am very excited for you. What an achievement building such a vessel yourselves. My wife and I would like to take up your invitation to comment as we are catamaran delivery skippers with about 60k nm delivery under our belts, plus our own cruising. 1. That single line furling line for the Code 0 on the foredeck will cause you grief. We highly recommend you run that back to the cockpit for safety and ease of use. As a commercial diver I have been employed a number of times to clear Code 0’s from props after skippers/crew have become tangled in the furling line on the foredeck and had to emergency drop the sail to save themselves, which has then gone over the side. Expensive exercise. Even on your video on the very first sail we noticed someone furling almost became entangled. 2. We are definitely not fans of running the anchor from the bridge deck. Whilst it keeps the weight out of the bow, the boat pivots on that point in difficult anchoring conditions. We had this in our first boat FP Helia 44, and this is standard in FP’s. Can result in the anchors sliding under the hulls. Manageable with caution but generally just a bit of a pain. I have seen a number of modifications where owners have tried to address this but running a block for the chain to the fore beam, with limited success. The bridge deck anchor placement is very common in performance cats. Lastly that post under the foredeck stabilising the prodder may become a catch hazard for the snubber in wind against tide situations, hard to tell just looking at a video. Not really something you can change, but just to be aware of. We love the swing helm stations, interior layout, control line layout, and really everything. We now have an extended Fusion 40 and would sell in a heartbeat for the MC44 is we could afford it. Congratulations once again. Hope you don’t mind the above comments, just trying to contribute in a positive sense.

    In general I thought it looked like it would be easy to maintain. One thing I was worried about it seemed like it could be very easy to fall off the back of the boat. I was wondering in rough seas are there safety ropes. Thats one of my what ifs- being knocked off the boat and it sailing away. I thought it was cool- the cloth on the sail had not as tight of a weave. Which made me start thinking about the airodynamics of the cloth.. If a fiber could be extruded in a certain shape and then knitted or woven in a way were having wind flow over the fiber would create lift. That would be a good graduate studies project. Creating a cloth that increased the transfer of energy by how the wind blows over the fabrics fibers. LOL

    We just got back from chartering a 45 Lagoon in the BVI. Man what a pig it was. Sailing is fun no matter what but it was definitely built for comfort on anchor. Seeing the max cruise zipping along looked like so much fun. Nice that you can get to the sail back too. We had a lot of trouble packing the sail because we couldn't reach it the full length.

    • @MJSailing

    Great film, your vid probably just sold a dozen Max Cruise! You guys must be so happy with your choice of boat now you've actually sailed on one. This level of energy management required, the type of drive (offshore is defintely shaft drive), the battery installlation constraints and the long term solutions. The options for shore charging at various levels / tariffs. Finally the ease of conversion back to other sytems such as hydrogen, more solar.

    The design reminds me of a Honda or Acura in the extreme lightweight efficiency. Honda build a Civic about 1990 that would achieve 48mpg - remarkable efficiency from a 4 cylinder car. Previous to this video I never understood the name "Max Cruise" now I am clear this catamaran has long legs and will do 200 mile days.

    • @MJSailing
      @MJSailing  2 роки тому +1

      I love the comparison, lol. Yes, the entire reason we got this boat is so we could easily do 80-100 mile passages in daylight hours. (We've found that single overnight passage wreck ys). Overall we're hoping to average 10 knots, so 240 mile days on passage! We can not wait until we're exploring the world on ours once it's completed.

    Did I see its a Beta marine diesel hybrid. If you are feeling brave check out the Cosworth cat gen. It's a catylic turbine 35Kw at 48kg. Cosworth is a serious operation and legendary racing engine builder. This potentially would facitate electric outboards and potentially eliminate the need to gas of all types 🙂.

    Great boat. I would have thought the Genoa furling lines would be back in the cockpit

    Next trial? Create a "real-life" environment on the boat to accurately replicate a typical day. Can't do it without being in open water. Met the few performance targets I saw, and passed with flying colors. Not a performance Cat if you don't experience the acceleration. 14 people onboard? Didn't see them all. At no-wake speeds the Cat had trouble keeping its line. Inexperience, and the massive amounts of vegetation in the water was most likely the culprit. How they fiberglass in such horrendous weather is still an open question in my mind. Impressed!

    Feeling a wee bit envious, but also overjoyed at the thought of M&J's new home taking you on way cool new adventures! Such a cool ride, like the radar system and screen, soo nice! Had Bánh Mì last night, yum!

      Mmmmm, our first time having Bahn Mi was this trip, and I fell in love with it. Yes, we can not wait for the day we're sailing our own hull to new and exotic locations. They'll be faster trips than we're used to, for sure!!

    Sorry for the dumb question, just started on your videos (really enjoy them) And wondered if you could fill in us newcomers on why you are putting your boat together instead of Receiving it Overseas and sailing it back? Assume it is economics, but coming from a person who has trouble super gluing two pieces of a plate together, Lord it would take me decades and it would sink within two minutes. Enjoy your videos, Godspeed…

      We've been planning for ours for over 2 years now, and building for 16 months. 😃 Just so happy we could get on the very first production sister ship to ours.

    The boat looks fantastic and sails great. Too bad about all the weeds and then a net. Aside from sailing, how do you like Vietnam?

      Every time we have been to Vietnam, we have absolutely loved it. It is a beautiful country with very welcoming people. One day we're hoping to get to the northern areas, since so far we've only seen HCMC and Vung Tau.

    I think they should give you your hull, for what this segment is going to do for them. I want one!

      Hahaha, agreed! There is the potential to pay off our hull through referrals, so if you do get one, make sure to tell them you heard about it first through us!
