*Disclaimer: Unfortunately, the UA-cam algorithm thrives on titles and thumbnails that could be perceived as clickbait. Although I find this particularly distasteful, as a means of reaching a new audience or encouraging my current audience to invest their time into my videos, I must work with the algorithm rather than against it. Statistics have highlighted just how effective aligning titles with the algorithm is and although this can be frustrating for many (myself included), I will always ensure that my titles:
    1. Never promote false promises or unrealistic expectations.
    2. Will more often than not ask a question.
    3. Are worded in a manner that although might be perceived a certain way, are still open to interpretation.
Appealing to more potential viewers gives me the opportunity to further the spread of what I believe to be useful information surrounding the topic in question, in addition to a positive message which often surrounds mental health, with the goal of helping as many people as possible.
It should also be noted that the majority of my videos are based on audience suggestions. ~90% of my audience are women, therefore, the majority of videos are created to appeal to my dominant audience.
It must also be noted that although goals often vary amongst individuals, a lot of my opinions on movements are within the context of building muscle (hypertrophy) and therefore, should be considered with that in mind.
Thank you for giving me your time.*

I don't like ice baths but it's mostly bc I don't like to be cold. I think people spend too much time worrying about how to optimize to early on and instead should focus on knowing and understanding the basics and staying consistent first rather than getting stuck in the weeds about things like ice baths, red light therapy etc. Thanks for the video as always!

It's good to hear that you can keep your training relatively the same when in a deficit. I'm training for a half marathon and lifting 1-2x per week, and attempting to do it in a slight deficit. So far so good but I was nervous it would affect my muscle retention.

i do high reps now because my form to fail with lower reps will be awful on almost any exercise, but more so on isolation, such as tricep pushdowns, bicep curls, leg extensions and so on. some exercises are so heavy i purposefully avoid adding any more weight (barbell hip thrusts can be awful to set up) so i work not only at increasing weight or reps now, but just on improving form and range of motion because i can move a lot of weight but it won’t necessarily target all the right muscles, or the ROM will be underwhelming

My dream piece of equipment my gym is missing is the pendulum squat. We did get a glute driver which I love. So much better than the smith machine/barbell.

As we don't have a pendulum squat or a good hack squat machine I've been hammering out leg press like my life depended on it. You really can push more than you think but I've been doing it so far that last week I got a heavy migraine after leg day 😂😢 the question to me is, do I have to push myself like that everytime? Because obviously it's only failure if I really pushed that far. But I felt like dying 5 reps before too. And I'm not a person who stops when it hurts I was already grinding like crazy. Once you know how far you can push you think everything else is not enough right? 😂

Patty is wonderful. Just like me her upper body is much more developed than lower body. This is because we started off upper-body-focused, and now we're catching up. 😅

I wonder if Patty meant to bias the glutes a little with that pendulum squats, given that she’d just done a quad-biased movement with that nice, low footed leg press? Regardless, we loved to see nice, thoughtful technique.

I’ve LOVED ice baths after sports, for the joint inflammation, but I don’t know if I’d use it after lifting. That DOMS is my JAM after a good training session. People think I’m batty, because there is no day of the week when I’m not sore somewhere. I train 6 days a week, with four heavy upper/lower days involved, and that feels GOOD for me day to day. An ice bath defeats that. No thanks. I’ll stick with a cool shower later in the day.

Rep range question: I’ve got a multi gym at home and find on peg 5 I can do 25 reps, but peg 6 is such a huge jump up the weights that I can’t even do one 😅
So do I just keep upping the reps hoping my strength will eventually increase to be able to go up to the next peg?
This is where a multi gym makes it more difficult I guess, coz you can’t just add small weight increments - they’re actually quite big increments! Any advice would be fab thank you 😊

Never do ice bath and cold showers after training, if you want to build muscle. Wait over 24 hours if you want to do cold showers and baths, i.e. on rest day, if you want to do them and you're doing bodybuilding training.

I think ice baths have their place in fittness world. E.g. for injury recovery, obviously can reduce inflammation/ swelling which is, well, swell 😂 but yeah, for big gains i think we should always try push hard, consistsntly and just shoulder the burden of muscle pain. Wear it like a badge of honor innit 😉

Ice sucks. Ice sucks. Ice sucks. LOL. I reallly wish we had a pendulum squat in my gym. Glad to hear you haven't done a back squat in a while. Sometimes I feel badly for not doing them, but I feel a little better now.

    • @austinhenshaw2140

Back squats can be great, from a hypertrophy perspective if you have hack/pendulum squat available, it may be "inferior" to those.

@@austinhenshaw2140 Makes sense. I do deadlifts and some front squats. Back squat is something I don't do often due to history of sciatica. Not that I never ever do them--just low on my priority list.

    • @rinvfx
      @rinvfx Місяць тому

it’s possible, it’s only harder when already past beginner stage and at a healthy body fat. so if u still first year into gym or above healthy fat percentage, or ur deficit isn’t big enough to feel miserable at the gym, u will be gaining muscle, even if not as much as if u would on maintenance or surplus. get ur protein and fuel the workouts with caffeine and carbs and body will respond just fine

Foot position and depth are important on the leg press but I'd argue that extensions and curls are not just about knee flexion.
For all 3, there is a difference between movement ( just moving the pad/ platform) and forcing the quads/ hamstrings to do the work.
I've found that this can only be achieved by lowering the weight for starters.
On the leg press, allowing yourself to 'take' the weight rather than simply resisting it engages the quads more.
Try this and your ridiculous 6 plate stack will become 1 but your knees will thank you and your quads will explode.😊
