When they say 'illegal immigrants' that just means that they came to live in Greece from an non-European country without respecting the legal procedure. It does not refer to the people who were born in Greece. There are hundreds of illegal immigrants crossing the Turkish boarder in the middle of the night daily.Bottom line is, Greece is in no position to support these people. ie:Do you think anyone can just enter the US or Canada without going through customs and then be legal the next day?

Sorry men but if you want to make a documentary about what means to be Greek you are not allowed to call a country Macedonia. It does not make sense.
Macedonia is Greece since 300 BC.
Everything else that is said is just propaganda.

Except for her father and herself, other members of the family were also prominent politicians such as her grandfather Kyriakos Mitsotakis and his brother Aristomenis Mitsotakis,

The ideological distortion is not the first time that has happened to Greece. We make it clear that Arvanitis is NOT synonymous with Albania. . It is typical that the Albanians during the Greek Revolution fought alongside the Turk. Unlike the Arvanites fought alongside the Greeks.

You have to understand that Greece compared to other Northern European countries does not have a long history of immigration. Up to very recently, we used to send immigrants to other countries. So please forgive the ignorant racist comments of some people. Not all Greeks are racist and younger generations will be more welcoming in the same way as in other western countries.

At least these muslims in Greece are surviving. They're not being tortured, they're not being put into jails, they're not forbidden to talk and learn their language. Did the same happen to the Greeks in Turkey? Why was there nothing said about that? How can one draw one sided parallel's and yet feel that they're doing a adequate report. This kind of propaganda is what has turned the world against each other. Muslims and Christians are people as long as they respect each other everywhere

The U.N. defines a country as the population aligning with the country they want to represent, and a stable government, and you need to have other countries define your country. Other countries see Macedonia as a country, the people align with Macedonia, and they do have a standing government; therefore, Macedonia is a country. That's like saying Greece isn't a country because they were dominated by the Turkish two hundred years ago.

It is high time we realized that these people, Immigrants, Muslims, are here! We can't kick them out, that's for sure, and we must integrate them. In particular...
    1) We need to give them cultural freedoms and rights. Somebody who does not share the same cultural identity with us, does not mean that he is not entitled to exercise his religion
    2) Civil rights. We must integrate them. It is horrible seeing people without chances, just because they are not greeks.

the exchange of 1923 also excluded the 80.000 greeks of Constantinople (Istandul). the muslims of Thrace numbered 50.000 then, today they are 120.000!! the Greeks of Turkey were kicked out of Turkey and today number less than 5.000... who is the good guy and who is the dad guy? why didn't the journalist check that out?

Now go to Istanbul and report on the ethnic Greek Orthodox community that the treaty of exchange allowed to stay...they were 150,000 strong in Turkey, and now they are 2,500. Who is really being persecuted here, Journeyman Pictures? This is a very unbalanced and simplistic report that barely touches the surface of the complexities and the history of this entire legacy of the Ottoman occupation and subsequent population exchanges.

  • @Vasilis719
    @Vasilis719 12 років тому

First of all, why is "Macedonia" shown as a seperate "nation"????. It is part of Hellenic history. Alexander the great would be disgusted. Secondly, in the population "exchange" of 1923, Greek in Constantinople and turks in Thrace were to be left to live in their "native" lands. Difference being; Greeks are of "native" decent" and turks are of of "occupier" decent. Furthermore, while the pogroms against the Christians in 1955 virtually wiped out Greeks, turks increase in population.

    Typical Australian propaganda.
Viewers should note that this report was broadcast before the Athens Olympic games in 2004. The previous Olympics were held in Sydney, Australia, and the Australian media were immensely proud of Sydney's Olympic games, especially since they were regarded as one of the best. To assure themselves of this accreditation the Australian media launched a propaganda campaign to belittle the Athens Olympics. This report is one such example.

I feel the only solution to the troubles of the world is for every country to be allowed to harness whatever natural resources it may possess and for the citizens of that country to be the primary beneficiaries of a nation's wealth. Look at the Middle East, awash with oil yet it only truly benefits a small group of ruling elites. If the majority of the population of Greece wishes to represent itself as an Orthodox country it should be able to as much as, say, Saudi Arabia to be an Islamic one.

greek is purely a religious term.
The constitution of 1827 written by mainly Albanian population of the territories that you call greece and hundreds of documents clearly describe it, wrote:
Greek is any believer in Christ who resides or will reside in territories of the ottoman empire liberated by weapons.
That boy, can be any statement but certainly not an Ethnic statement, and as there is no such thing as Christ or God, your greece is a fake state. You can believe a lie to be true, fine.

what about Christians in Muslim countries? what about them, is their religion tolerated? Are they allowed to build Churches?.. Hm... let me think, the Christian comunity in Turkey has been massacred and destoyed, the one in Egypt is dailly suppressed and persecuted, in Saudi Arabia if you wear a cross you end up in jail... Would the Australian journalist want all the muslim immigrants in Greece to go to australia? I'm sure the Greek government would gladly pay their plane tickets!

the only thing to be realized here is :abolish all the religions....it is nothing more than a barrier amongst people of the world. The mater being debated here is wether or not a minority should have a proper building to pray to a spiritual entity..i mean we live in the 21st century and people still hate each other only because their particular spiritual entity is different than another one..humanity is really disappointing sometimes

@serreosoo8 Final note - In Islam there is no room for nationalism. nationalism is a great sin. it doesnt matter where u come from & the colour of your skin. All muslims are brother & sisters in islam. this is the truth, but this doesnt mean that all muslims practise this. unfortunatelly, as in all religions, there are ignorants in Islam too. I hope what i have said will hit ground & bring an open dialogue instead of ignorant comments (although i am afraid this is too wishful thinking...)
