Peter Besenyei Flies Through the Corinth Canal

Peter Besenyei, one of the most talented pilots in the world and Red Bull Air Race competitor, recently flew through the Corinth Canal in his aerobatics plane, doing his best "Luke Skywalker navigating the Death Star" impression.
The aircraft, an Extra 300S D-EFBY that has 300+ horsepower, has a wingspan of 26 feet -- not much less than the 70ft that the Corinth Canal measures at its narrowest point. Opened in 1893, the historic waterway connects the Gulf of Corinth with the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea After crossing the canal for the first time in an aligned flight, the pilot raised the degree of difficulty by performing a series of risky tricks during his second pass. The Hungarian then continued with a flight under the old bridge of Corinthos, followed by a vertical climb and a steep descent into the Canal. Besenyei completed his programme performing two impressive loops around the bridge.
All eight Red Bull Air Races will be telecast on FOX Sports 1, with the next race in Rovinj, Croatia airing on April 14 at 7:30 pm ET. The broadcast will also be available on demand at 9:30pm ET on Red Bull TV which is available for free on the web at www.redbull.tv, through its iOS and Android applications, and on Xbox 360, Apple TV, Chromecast, and select Smart TVs.

At that speed, one miscalculation can cause the plane to slam against the canal sides. The faster you go, the quicker things can go bad.
