@@pal2tech learned that technique in 1966 when I began working and learning to do movies for a portrait wedding studio. Learned then to do a practice to get the speed as with a movie, it is important to do a pan very slowly. Even if you think it is slow, do it slower as the speed to the eye is different from the result on film. I like the videos related to the Fuji brand. Love my X T20 but do wish that the 16-80 and the 70-300 had been available as that would have saved buying another 4 lenses I currently own. Less stuff to carry around too.
Useful, but not comprehensive. He did not touch on the subjects of parallax distortion or the camera's nodal point. Perhaps not important when sweeping for a panorama, but VERY important when stitching individual shots together, particularly if the focal point is close to the lens.
I love your channel. Hands down, the best photographic / Fuji content online. Without you, I´d be lost. And I also love the fact, that you somehow create this welcoming atmosphere of 90´s sitcom. So friendly, familiar and uplifting. And the information is always SO SPOT ON! I haven´t commented anything so far and it´s just an coincidence, that I comment under "Panorama" video, but I really love all of them. I don´t understand, why you don´t have millions of subscribers. Keep going, you are doing an amazing job and you can tell you LOVE this. Maybe that´s why it´s so enjoyable. THANK YOU!
I have found you're my #1 go to guy for information. There are a couple other people who are also good, but I know I can count on your information every time.
Thank you for posting this. My camera is new and I was out hiking and thought, "I should do a panorama" I was amazed at what good results I got without ever having read the manual or even thought about panorama. Now, having done that, with your video, I'll even do better next time. Thank you so very much. I love your videos!
I’ve only tried it twice I think, I thought it did a pretty good job; but I consider it a quick-and-dirty pano, if I really want a pano of the scene, I will do it manually in the vertical position, and pivoting from the front of the lens as far as possible to avoid parallax issues as much as possible, then stitch later in software. But that takes time and dedication. I use the pano mode on my iPhone quite frequently, and I do the same; I avoid any great sweeps of the phone, rather rotating it on the lens axis if I can. For far-off scenery, this won’t matter, but with nearer objects, it certainly can. One trick I haven’t bothered to try, but I know some use, is to have a string with a coin or some other weight, easily kept in a pocket, which can be tied to the end of the lens and dropped to the ground and put a foot on it and held tight, which aids in maintaining the pivot point in the one spot in a simple portable way.
One the most interesting and informative videos you have done. There was so much great stuff in there that I was totally unaware of. If I could subscribe TWICE, I would. Thanks.
Thanks Chris, I have used this with some success, but you pointed out a couple of features I wasn't aware of, so thanks again for your in depth review.
Some great tips, especially about planting your feet at the ending point of the pano. I’ve tried taking several panos and always seem to be contorting my body to get the shot. This tip will help me.
Another fantastically useful video. I’ve never tried to use pano mode, but will certainly give it a go now I understand it. Maybe Fujifilm will start linking to your vids on their documentation, they really should, the info is so easy to follow. Have a great weekend, Chris! Andrew
Thank you soooooooo much for this explanation! I have been shooting with Fuji since X-T1 and I knew about the panorama feature but I never tried. I had no idea about the medium panorama and to me looks like a Hasselblad X-Pan in my Fuji's! Definitely I'll try and use frequently after your video. Again, thank you Soo much again for your Passion, dedication and time. Cheers!
tried out this pano option the other day for about 15-20 minutes and not 1 would go thru to my memory card - Always got an error no matter how i changed up sweep speed, nothing worked. Too slow, too fast, ... truly annoying!! 🤦🏻♀️ wished it worked for me more easily or at all in my case!! 🙄 Guess i just continue doing panos the regular tried & true way. This would have been nice to have for more “on the fly” type scenarios. An awesome vid non the less Chris, thanks for another informative lesson!
hello, I've been following you for a few months, and my English isn't so good, but you're explaining this very well on the channel, and that I want to know that I have an X t4 and x100v, too, I decided to subscribe to your channel 👍
Just seen this. Good advice, thanks. But ... to avoid possible parallax error, I think it's better to try and rotate the camera in a fixed position instead of swinging it in a large arc around your body as you recommend.
I always enjoy your videos, and often learn new things. I'd like to suggest you tackle the subject of parallax distortion, if you ever decide to update this video to include 'stitched' panoramas, and perhaps show people how to find the nodal point to avoid it.
Great tips there, especially about positioning to avoid falling over at the end of the pan! I’ve never used that feature for panos on my XT3’s, as I shoot with cam vertically in raw and stitch in LR. So, will give it a try. Thanks for posting, you’re a great resource for Fuji XT owners on what is a very complex camera! Cheers from the UK👍
Lotta good detailed info in such a short vid - well done!👍 Hand held takes practice, and tollerance of cam “back seat driver nags” - slow down, too slow, turn left here, not right 😁 for fails. Special effects “clone” tip - have model pose (still) on one side of pan, then while you move cam, quickly run around behind you and jump into other side of pan and stay still. Fin pic should show person twice.
Hi, could you please do a video on the exposure compensation dial? What/how is it doing electronically/digitally technically? Why is it there, can't the ISO dial be used? When do i go and use that dial? Thanks in advanced!
Hi pal2tech, great video and lots of useful tips :). I have kind of a different way for shooting panos, usually I let my camera (XT20) auto expose and then I use the AEL button so that the exposure settings are fixed and then I start the panorama. Keep up the good work. Most of the times I use the vertical mode.
I love your videos! You have helped me so much with my XT3. But, you might brush up on your birds; that was a Canada goose, not a duck. ;). Keep up the great videos!
Omg i own a x-t3 sinds it was first sold and I didn’t know that the camera could do this. I always do this with my iPhone! Next time i will use my 8-16 zoom and try it out. Thx buddy!
On the X T5, you probably will get a bit more lenient. See with the files as the dynamic range I found was really good on the Xt5 even the JPEG’s are fantastic for being able to knock down the highlights and add shadow unloving the T5 actually will give this a go this afternoon. I thought it was a bit gimmicky to be quite honest but it can produce some pretty good images
Hello Pal2Tech. Tried experimenting yesterday and found (as you predicted) I got many slightly different "stripes" of blue sky color when shooting on Aperture. I tried "Locking the AWB" and the results were great ... looks like completely consistent color and 'exposure' across 120 degree arc. Only "Locked" AWB. But scene had little contrast so not sure if more manual control might be needed if more contrast present?
Excellent. I'd like to have seen you say more and actually demonstrate how you set exposure manually for a panorama shot. Do you mean you set A, SS and ISO manually? What about WB? Overall this "Buttons and Settings" series you're doing is really good. LOTS of appetite for this 'how to' knowledge.
Thank you Chris for the wonderful tips love them a lot....Please if it's possible to do some content on using Fuji cams with flash....Been trying to learn tips for getting the best shots without over-exposure or under-exposing the shots...Thanks in advance...Shout out from South Africa!
Hi Chris. If you put the camera on a tripod and find the no-parallax point of the lens at a given focal length, will you get better results with the pano mode? Thanks!
Hi, thanks for your video. Can I cancel that panoramic shoot in the middle of the shoot and still keep my image. Or I'm forced to fullfil the whole motion?
Great tips, thanks. Question: On my x-s10, in the drive menu the panorama is greyed out and inaccessible. Any thoughts on what functional conflict(s) might be causing this?
I believe I didn't get the part where I should shoot with tracking auto focus or manual focus or just go full auto and let the camera do everything. I have a X-T20 and years ago, I was getting great Panoramic shots but last year the focus was off quite a bit lead to me shooting with my cellphone and it records a video clip and crop it. However, I still like the older panos with my X-T20.
Hah! Nice trick with pan! Thanks! And yes, We enjoy your video!))) Waiting for another one. I'm going to buy this amazing camera. What about its autoficus while shooting video? Is it ok or sometimes it loses you?
Good video. Have you tried taking 360 photos to upload to Google Street View with Fuji? I guess panorama mode doesn't work for 360 Any tips like lens and exposure?
Your video's have become a "must see" for me. Great job as always! PS. I just got into bird photography and am struggling a bit to capture birds in flight. Do you have any tips regarding best focus settings on XT-3 that would make the experience a bit less frustrating?
I have the same question. So far I'm a total -FAIL- at focusing on birds in flight. My fall back has been to select manual focus. Pre-focus. (and set exposure: aperture and shutter speed, based on conditions). That way the camera doesn't have to do anything when you press the button, just take the shot. (Or shots, if you're shooting in CH mode.)
Great tips!!!!...BTW, have you reverted back to using Adobe Lightroom Classic??? I been noticing since your Capture One tutorials (which were great BTW), you yourself still seem to be using LR
What a great trick to get the biggest panorama files by using up/down and then holding the camera in portrait orientation!
InstaBlaster...
Great tip about planting your feet where you want to end up and swinging your body around.
Thanks Paula!! Yeah, especially when shooting in L mode where you are twisting around 180 degrees, LOL!!!
@@pal2tech It's also a good technique to use in panning.

Thank you for these little 'zoom-ins' on specific features. I find them painless and digestible and I end up learning something each time
You always explain the day-by-day issues that many photographers might experience, and you do it amazingly well. Thanks!
A comprehensive tutorial on panorama shots! Thank you and have a nice weekend!

thanks a lot from a very confused x100v owner to clarify the angle setting. great video!

Thank you for the tips. My favorite one is to set the camera vertical and shoot a horizontal pano. 🤙 have a great weekend 📸

Very good presentation. Will go and try your suggestions.I really appreciate your instructions.
you always explain so WELL!

just curious .... can we create better panoramas using a cam slider?
excellent description and very helpful. thank you
Thanks a lot for your explanation. Your videos are always interesting and anytime something new can be learnt.
Great vid and useful tips and explanation. Thanks.
You are amazing. I am learning so much from your videos.
Every friday I wait to your video to know what I'm going to try out the weekend with my Fuji! Thanks you!

Another tip is to keep the shutter speed fairly high > 1/100s when doing a panorama. Otherwise parts of the stitched panorama will be blurred.
That is an absolutely awesome tip and should’ve been included in the video. Thank you for letting me know!
