      I'm a huge fan of Varpu and the "Her Finland" channel! I also link to her on every video and highly recommend her work and attitude. I didn't know that you two were friends! But it makes a lot of sense now, you have much in common, you are both very genuine, down to earth, friendly, and sweet. I do whatever I can to help grow your channels. Thank you Katja, (and Varpu!) you have helped so many of us improve our Finnish!

      @@FinntegrationSociety Thank you so much (kiitos paljon!) I genuinely appreciate your support here when you comment, but also on your channel as well! And yes! Our channel's have a similar niche so we found each other years ago online and have kept in touch since then! It's always been nice to connect with others doing a similar thing :)

    These filler words are so annoying because they completely break my mental translation process 😑 I guess I'm still not used to them.
    Interesting to know that puhekieli Voitsä! Finnish intonation is so flat that many times I don't understand when I'm being asked a question, especially when puhekieli is used.
    Another great video! Kiitos!😁

      That's a very good point about disrupting the mental translation! And so true about the flat intonation, Finnish is kind of known for that 😅 Thank you so much for the comment! Kiitos paljon kommentistasi! :D

    Well, it's like a question how people are thinking. If you know what you are saying, gaps become unlikely and you don't need a filler word. Me being German, I like never use such word... (and if: it's more in the meaning: "as good as").

    The few Scandinavians I've met all speak English with an almost perfect American accent. I don't know what they're doing different in the learning process but other European countries all seem to retain their accents for the most part.

    • @nikoforu
      @nikoforu 5 місяців тому +1

      Subtitles on a large amount of American/British programs/films. There's passive English learning from a young age. It doesn't hurt that English is a distant cousin of Scandinavian languages (that doesn't apply to Finland, obviously, being non-Scandinavian). I've met Finns from different generations and the difference with English fluency is still staggering. Katchats is rather typical of the last 30-40 years.
      Niinku...
      I'm originally from Canada and all the movies/series are dubbed in French (l lived in the French part of Canada). You had TV channels from the rest of Canada (English) that you could always switched to, but it required an extra effort to understand everything (no subtitles, obviously). Now try to imagine countries with no large English-speaking population with mass media to support it and it's pretty obvious people from other European countries (France, Italy, Spain...) don't have high English profiency.
      Niinku...
      Of course, the Internet age is changing everything now.
      Niinku...
      Yeah, that covers it.
