Neocolor I background / Colour ‘n’ Chat | Adult Colouring

Hi everyone. In this video, I do my very first voiceover video where I complete a background using Neocolor I crayons in RJ Hampson’s Dragon dreams colouring book. I also use my Derwent blender pen and refill it with Zest-it blending fluid in the way Imogen (Colouring kid) showed it on her UA-cam video - thanks Imogen! I will link her very useful video below.

I also use my Spectrum Noir silver metallic marker pen and a white Arteza gel pen for the stars in the sky.
Neocolor i crayons used:
Black
Violet
Prussian blue
Dark ultramarine
Periwinkle blue
Please note: I am not sure why the volume/sound on the voiceover part of the video was lower than the introduction part (I did use a microphone). I tried to improve it the best I could during the editing process but you may still need to increase the volume a bit on your device. Hope that’s okay, I’ll get there eventually with a little bit of trial and error. Thanks for your patience.
I like the voice over. It’s hard to explain what you’re doing while you’re concentrating on doing it.

You're absolutely right about store prices, WHSmith used to be my go to store years ago, but it's no wonder Amazon is killing it 🤷.

Great video K, I'm a fan of speeded up content and the voice over. Anything too long and I won't watch it, no matter how much I like the author. Those Neocolor I's work really well, that sky just glows!❤️❤️

Hi K. Love the background. So pretty. Enjoy your trip to Wales. I don’t mind the voice over. I just like watching you color and listening to your voice. Oh btw, I was doing a pic with the Neo 1s and needed a color they didn’t have so I used a Neo 2 and then blended all of it with gamsol. Came out great. You can’t tell which was the 1 and which was the 2. Have a great day and thanks a lot for the video.

Love this K, I have the Neo 2 already but I get tired of using water and have moved more towards pastels but I have the Neo 1 in my cart at the moment and am getting very ready to go for it.

I really like the voice-over for things like this where you show a single technique. The higher speed let’s me fit in more videos! 😆 Of course, I would still like real-time for more complicated pieces where you do a whole page with multiple techniques.

Can you use the Golden satin fluid on Amazon paper and then use wet mediums, or does the paper not like it too?
Great voice over. At least you didn't put it to music, I hate them videos because the music is always really loud and then talking really quiet.

That was interesting seeing the blender pen and zest it with neos , thanks for sharing . Prices on the high st that aren’t budget shops are ridiculous 🙈, I would like to support my local shops but as someone else said Amazon …… love it or hate it is often a third sometimes more cheaper . I treated myself to a few new clothes in the sales ( I always buy charity shop / vintage ) and honestly no way would I have paid the full price ! Colouring supplies is a different story 🤣🤣🤣xx

The voice-over was very well done. If it's easier for you, that might be the way to go more often. Also, this may be obvious, but you can put Zest-It in all kinds of different water- or alcohol-based blenders (after they dry out). I've used Gamsol and alcohol as well but Zest-It works the best and is nontoxic.

I liked the voice over. Thank you so much for doing a voice over instead of the music. That music drives me 😜. I haven’t tried any of the neocolor ones yet but I’d like to. I may try to pick up a small set and see if I enjoy them. Thanks for showing your technique. Also congrats on getting started with your art journaling. I also would like to try diamond painting. I enjoy some of the color by numbers books so I think I would like the diamond painting as well.
Do you think I could get a similar background effect with the neocolor 2 if I pretreated the page with satin glazing liquid?
Yes, I think you would get a similar look with Neo’s on a pre-prepared page but you might need a second coat of the Neo’s, I usually find I do need a second application to get a more intense colour ❤️😊

Yay, great background. Funnily enough I've used this technique this month in a RjHampson page, as well. (Nightgarden) It is useful, although I'm not how long my blender pen will last, will definitely be trying to fill it. Works well in this paper, and does replace a watercolour background really well. I might need to add to my neo 2's set though, I only have the 30 set, and was struggling for lighter shades. Very glad you've had a go back in your Art journal, I've not worked in mine this month, as Its just been too hot in my room to work in here, but now I'm back in here, hopefully I can. 👍 Great Video, x

I love this technique, thanks for sharing it with us all. I was wondering 💭 if you’d be able to try doing a background with the bambino crayons 🖍 and the blender pen 🖊. The reason I’m asking is I’m building up my Neocolor 2 collection as they’re so expensive in Australia 🇦🇺 so I don’t want to start a new collection of the Neocolor 1, I’d prefer to buy the cheaper set of bambino crayons 🖍 if it works. I’d love 💗 it 🤞🏻if you could try it out please? 😊 P.S. The voice over is a nice new touch to your channel. 👍🏻🎉

the prices of things at the mo is very frustrating. i do enjoy diamond painting, the click when you pop a drill in is very satisfying. Do you think this technoque would work with bambino crayons?
You could try it with Bambino crayons, they are made of clay and not wax but it might still work. I might give it a try at some point 😊
Hi Kay, Could you please show us the back of the Amazon paper? I found with a Johanna Basford book, the Derwent blender caused some warping on the back of the paper where I had blended it. Thanks, Ann.
It causes a little bit of warping but not much, I mainly use it on single sided pages
Thanks for sharing this! Is there any bleed through with the zest-it? And do you find any difference between the original formula and the citrus free?
No bleed through with the zest it and I’ve not used the citrus one so I’m not sure how it compares to the original
