In 1992, I mailed (snail mail) Nintendo Power to ask for advice on how to beat Dracula. I remember they recommended the axe, but I ended up beating the game before I got their response! Oh, the old days…
Poor Grant Danasty. First his entire family was killed, then he was turned into a demon and placed as a boss in a skippable stage, then he got turned into a zombie-mummy in Castlevania Judgement and then finally he got next to completely forgotten or/and ignored in the Netflix series. This underappreciated Castlevania hero truly deserves a better fate!
Talk about being taken for "Granted". Should he have not been in a position to "Grant" himself to others? Just asking, as I don't mean to demean him, or speak ill of him. He does have plenty to "Grant" to others, doesn't he? I think so.

That’s awesome. My oldest nephew is 16. Buying him Zelda tomorrow and my youngest nephew is 2. I can’t wait til the 2 year old gets into games. Uncle T is going to buy him every game he wants
Alucard is able to use holy sub-weapons because his mother is from a "holy bloodline" according to Koji Igarashi and in SotN there was supposed to be an alignment system in which Alucard became either good or evil depending on his use of sub-weapons(good) or evil(dark magic). Also Sypha is a female who disguised herself as a male in order to escape from hunted down and executed as a witch. Nothing was mistranslated in English it was designed to keep the disguise going until the end.
Regarding Sypha, is that the reason in the games? In the crappy Netflix show (well, it was pretty good and then turned crappy) they have her dress as a man to avoid trouble while travelling. Haven't read much of the lore outside of the games, but I know in the games she works for the church rather than being a gnostic mouthpiece for Warren Ellis's anti-religious beliefs in the Netflix show

Oh Castlevania III, one of the best games on the NES and my personal favorite. It's also one of the best in the whole series. The feeling of dealing the last blow to Dracula after a long and hard battle is just epic. The weird ways in which they made some of the bosses laughable in the original Famicom version was also interesting though it's soundtrack is still amazing and helped getting you in the right mood of fighting Dracula's dark army, especially using Grant.
Like the original game 3 was created to move one stage to the next and be an interactive movie, when they created the North American version they messed up the flow of the original release by making some of the bosses non existent (Dracula form 1, giant bat) and others up to chance as to if you get through.

One of my favorites. I still come back to this game from time to time, and it really shows what the NES was capable of. I've never beaten it, but still is a lot of fun.
The 2nd loop in this game is pretty brutal. Other than additional enemies in areas that didn't have them, it also replaces all the medusa heads with skulls and they fly even more erratic than the medusa heads do. I made a challenge to myself to beat every path on the 2nd loop with every secondary character, since you start the 2nd loop with whichever character you finished the first loop with. Also, you can not get any other secondary characters in the 2nd loop. They just do not appear when you beat the boss of their stage.

Alacard is actually Adtian Tepes, half human half vampire being (a Dhampir). Technically a living being who drinks blood if he wishes and could become a full vampire when dead.
Gosh, I remember playing this game as a kid and thinking this was the hardest friggin game in the world. I am realizing now I must have unknowingly chosen the absolute worst combination of paths to go down 😂
Cool vid. I liked the entry codes. One thing you forgot to mention about Grant is that he can throw daggers and axes from the ceiling and walls. I fight Medusa with Grant by throwing axes down on her from the ceiling. Also, at 49:35 there is a Double in the block at the bottom left of the screen. Also, the one watching from the shadows was probably meant to be some villager who witnesses Trevor standing there as the castle crumbles, and that villager tells the tale of Trevor's heroism. However, with the addition of Curse of Darkness, it's possible that the person in the shadows is Issac, one of Dracula's loyal followers who was too late in arriving to help defend the castle.
What a classic! Easily the best Castlevania on NES. I love the choices you have to make between multiple paths and the different characters you can choose to have join Trevor, the decision of which even affect the ending. It's an 8-bit masterpiece. Happy Halloween, U Can Beat Video Games!
I'm surprised you didn't mention how the sub-weapon multiplier works on the first level. Enemy kill count with sub-weapons will let you get the multiplier faster, and the candles count as a kill if you break them with your sub-weapon. You can get Holy Water x3 by the first level boss. Keep up the good work! (Edit) Just got part way through the clocktower and noticed you mentioned the mechanic of the double/triple shot. Lol)
Love this game so much. One of the few nes games I had to get a physical copy of and play through the same day. This, castlevania 1, ninja gaiden, Mario 3, and contra are the best nes games ever made
Me Before the glitch: “ok this should be cool! Can’t wait to try” Me 10 seconds into the glitch: “ok, this looks a little tricky but shouldn’t be that hard!” Me 20 seconds into the glitch “ok, I guess this will take some serious practice but I’ll get it!” Me 30 seconds into the glitch “ok, this might not be for me… this looks really difficult” Me 40 seconds into the glitch “fast forward…” 😅😅😅
I love how you mention the whole map thing vs picking an exit on a stage. Because I think that very thing happens one or two games in the series from now. Richter also happens to be one of the favorites among the Belmont clan.
This is a special one for me. This is my favorite Castlevania and I've only ever beaten it with Sypha because her homing balls absolutely tears apart bosses. But it took me a very long time because this game is by far the toughest Castlevania for NES. Now that I know that Urata code I can just start with Sypha....that's freaking awesome. Thanks again for a masterful playthrough.
Favorite Castlevania game, shit was amazing when I beat it with no deaths. Although this video makes my countless trial and errors very pointless in retrospective but it is still much appreciated if I can’t remember a section
Back in 2009 the Wii Internet Channel cost 5 bucks and then Nintendo made it free and refunded everyone who bought it and gave people a choice for a NES game. I chose Castlevania III because I've never played it and I enjoyed it, especially when I played it for Halloween.
The joke about Alucard eating wall mest maybe being human..... According to the instruction booklet, the wall meat is called a leg of werewolf, so, technically, yeah, its human
When I first heard about this game as a kid, I couldn’t wait to play it. Then I did, and it was hard as balls! I can’t believe people speed run it today.
About time this was done One of the best castlevania games ever. It was hard but fair for the most part And while Trevor/Sypha is canon, he actually recruited everyone. Great run
I did it, I finally beat Castlevania III, I don't think I had played this for nearly 30 years! This was a tough one and there were moments in the last few stages where I felt like I was having more frustration than fun, this game doesn't hold back on the cheap shots. I played the steam version and I'm not sure I'd recommend it, when the screen would become even a little busy it would suffer horrible slowdown that also affected the music which is really unfortunate because this game has such a great soundtrack!
This and the first Castlevania took up many many hours of my time as a kid. I spent so much time trying to beat the first one, and after weeks and weeks, I finally defeated Dracula at the end of the first one only to learn that he turns into a big bat/gargoyle thing. I don't think I ever tried beating it again. Castlevania 3 didn't take up quite as much of my time, and I don't think i ever beat it, but i do remember playing it quite a bit.
I know that I've already raved about this game enough, but there's another aspect of it that came to mind while watching this: it is remarkable that a game made back when this one was made was able to have its levels designed to account for multiple playable characters, and to allow for the levels to be able to be completed, regardless of which character that the player is using.
Medusa with Grant? Axes from the ceiling. Also, I cannot unhear it when you say it... Chrevor jumps the penjulum to chry his shtrategy against Jracula. Great video, I enjoyed it. Thanks.
Castlevania 3 is my favorite out of the series, probably one of my all-time favorite NES games. I really enjoy watching your playthroughs, I ended this game back in the days but I didn't get a chance to end it with Cypher so I'm glad you showed me that ending, I'm looking forward to the next game you play
That glitch trick to the last level was hands down the wildest trick I've ever seen in a game. I don't know how anyone ever figured that out and can only imagine how long they spent messing around to finally get it lol.
First time I've ever actually sat and played alongside your video. Just made it to level 6. I always thought this game was insanely hard but it's actually not that bad. So great to finally play through it and experience the gameplay firsthand.
I remember being really confused as to who or what Sypha was supposed to be. I found that ambiguity to be pretty fun. I feel like there was a lot of conflicting information from various sources back in the day.
The stage warp that you demonstrated must be the most laborious glitch I've ever seen in a game. It's probably easier just to progress through this hard ass game! lol
27:25 : Who the HELL discovered that, and HOW?? OMG! LOL! Note : I think that glitch is more complicated than actually making it to the final level in normal fashion! LOL Edit: 38:05 : My bad, he pointed that out too haha

Alacard is actually Adtian Tepes, half human half vampire being (a Dhampir). Technically a living being who drinks blood if he wishes and could become a full vampire when dead.
This game was so amazing. This, Deja Vu, and Ninja Gaiden 2 was a hell of a Christmas as a kid in the early 90’s.
i got dd3 and gauntlet 2 for christmas back at that time
This is a great walkthrough of a quality I’ve not seen anywhere else. I was able to beat the game thanks to your work :)
Once again, awesome video! I am one of the few weirdos whose favorite old school Castlevania is Simon's Quest but still enjoying this video.
That's my favorite one on the nes too. It's the most fun to replay, and not ridiculously hard.
What a classic! Easily the best Castlevania on NES. I love the choices you have to make between multiple paths and the different characters you can choose to have join Trevor, the decision of which even affect the ending. It's an 8-bit masterpiece. Happy Halloween, U Can Beat Video Games!
I discovered this channel 3 to 4 months ago when I was looking up a guide for Legacy of the Wizard. Been subbed since this channel never disappoints.
Finally!! This is the one console Castlevania game I have yet to beat. Thank you!
Can’t wait to try”
Me 10 seconds into the glitch: “ok, this looks a little tricky but shouldn’t be that hard!”
Me 20 seconds into the glitch “ok, I guess this will take some serious practice but I’ll get it!”
Me 30 seconds into the glitch “ok, this might not be for me… this looks really difficult”
Me 40 seconds into the glitch “fast forward…”
😅😅😅
Just finished this with the Syfa path. You made this look easy. Cheers.
When I first heard about this game as a kid, I couldn’t wait to play it. Then I did, and it was hard as balls! I can’t believe people speed run it today.
Omg I've played this game so many times & I never saw just the trevor ending..such a masterful job..triumphant skill..so excellent..keep it up 🤙🏼
Easily the best of the "retro styled" Castlevanias. Branching paths, multiple characters, replayability. It's one of my all time favorites.
Who the HELL figures out things like that stair glitch. WHAT?!? Just… WHAT?!?
About time this was done
One of the best castlevania games ever. It was hard but fair for the most part
And while Trevor/Sypha is canon, he actually recruited everyone.
I've always liked the castlevania series however this guy is the man! He talkes the talk but more importantly he walked the walk u the man dog!!
This is my favorite Castlevania game of all time. Thanks for covering it. Love your channel.
One of the absolute best NES games and one of the best Castlevania games ever! Great choice for the last episode before Halloween.
NOW THIS IS THE ONE WE'VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR I FEEL SO PUMPED UP RIGHT NOW!!!
yes!!!
Greetings from the BIG SKY. Castlevania remains as a favorite for me.
Medusa with Grant? Axes from the ceiling.
Also, I cannot unhear it when you say it... Chrevor jumps the penjulum to chry his shtrategy against Jracula.
Great video, I enjoyed it. Thanks.
Awesome content.
You'll be at 100k soon!
Man I can't get enough of this channel! Its like playing a game with a prima guide.
The music on Alucards level damn it's ominous
At the end, when you suggest having different exits to pick your path rather than the map, you've described Rondo of Blood.
2:20:12 Could have been Isaac from curse of darkness, though I doubt they thought that long ahead.
47:34 You can also cling to the ceiling and drop axes on Medusa. It's worth a laugh.
You won my like early with the "Load bearing boss" bit. Amazing job as always.
That was pretty funny
You do an amazing job narrating the whole way through without missing a beat. Well done! I miss playing this game.
My favorite from the NES Castlevania trilogy :) Boy is it fun, but also difficult.
That glitch trick to the last level was hands down the wildest trick I've ever seen in a game. I don't know how anyone ever figured that out and can only imagine how long they spent messing around to finally get it lol.
I see a notification there's a new video on this channel - I'm instantly interested in this!
Absolutely love the Castlevania series.. just in time for halloween
Love Castlevania 3. It's one of my most played classic cv games. Love the branching paths and different characters to give plenty of replay ability.
One of the best soundtracks on the NES.
Getting this for Christmas in 1990 was a highlight that year.
FINALLY!!!!!!!!! Finally you're doing Castlevania 3
I actually named my son Trevor after this game. Great video!
When nothing came up yesterday, I knew you were working on something good! You did not disappoint!
"Load bearing boss." That's clever. I like it.
The stage warp that you demonstrated must be the most laborious glitch I've ever seen in a game. It's probably easier just to progress through this hard ass game! lol
And you later stated as much. 😀
27:25 : Who the HELL discovered that, and HOW?? OMG! LOL!
Note : I think that glitch is more complicated than actually making it to the final level in normal fashion! LOL
Edit: 38:05 : My bad, he pointed that out too haha
My fave NES Vania. Had so much fun renting this. Would always try to get farther each time. Only beat it via emulation years after childhood.
Emulation makes these old games way more tolerable.
Yes! I was hoping for this! This is the only one of the 3 Castlevania games I haven’t finished.
I really appreciate how naturally "wall meat" rolls off your tongue like it's an everyday-standard-totally normal object.
Hey! The mummies aren't spawned by lightning, it's actually the mummifying bandage that forms them 😄 ... So glad this video finally came out. The two waterways with the birds and merpeople always kills my runs 🦇
That skip to the end glitch is probably the most insane warp I've ever seen. How did anyone figure that out?
