Another banger. I was obsessed with this game back in the day due to the fact you could play as other characters with unique abilities. And good news for your stats: I was a Grant guy! His ability to walk on all surfaces was right up my alley. I was so blown away by the ability to avoid fights and cut through the levels, either with Grant's wallcrawling or Alucard's flight. So it was great to see your video since you made sure to include all the optional paths and endings. I'll also reveal that it wasn't until today at 46 years old when I learned from you Alucard is "Dracula" backwards. Wow. Do I feel dumb for missing that!! Little me way at likely all of 12 years old back when simply never put it together. At least as a former science teacher I already knew the difference in stalagmites and stalactites?? Thank you JaBG! Yeah we wanted to give the full experience, and I was definitely a huge fan of Grant as a kid. As fun as it is to fly, Grant's ability to climb upside down was so cool and you felt especially clever when you found all of the most effective ways to make use of that move. Ha and no worries; I felt silly myself when I discovered Alucard was simply Dracula backwards, as well.

But the absolute fucking annoying ass thing that destroys this game and its legacy is the fucking choppy ass stiff controls. WHY THE FUCK AM I STUCK ON THE SAME TRAJECTORY AFTER JUMPING SOMEWHERE? IT COMPLETELY FUCKS WITH YOUR SENSES WHEN THE GAME LOCKS YOU INTO GETTING FUCKING ROCKED BY ENEMY FIRE!!! The weak ass whipe is about a quarter of an inch big and the fucking bats fly everywhere!!! WHY!!??? Fucking Konami always destroying their games by making them too hard. Anyways, Thank god Castlevania 4 fixed that quickly. It absolutely doesnt even have to be this way because Grant handles smoothly.
Back in the day player here. I was a Grant enjoyer, with my favorite route being through the sunken city / shorter castle dungeons. Short cutting with Grant felt more legit and less cheesy to me. Sypha was a very close second. Alucard just felt too slow and bulky and I didn’t like his weapon. However, the tall falling blocks area (7-05) without Alucard is probably the most annoying part of the whole game.
Yeah the handful of moments where Alucard really shines like you mentioned make this game a lot more manageable. Grant's move is definitely the most satisfying, especially when you find a good short cut to exploit with his ability.
This channel is awesome. I grew up playing all these games..Not only is this a walk thru but Gary tells you how to beat the bosses and the cat gives fun facts about the game. Which makes the videos way more interestingt hen other walk thru videos ive seen on UA-cam..
An excellent class, as always. I think this is the first school I've ever been enrolled in where I never wanna miss a class lol. I played this game once when I was super little but didn't make it far. Thank you!
On stage 5-C you can get on the level of those Skeleton cannons' fireballs and just whip them while you wait to move up the stairs. Also on the Cyclops boss, an easier and less time-consuming strategy is to just go right up to it, whip it in the face, retreat slightly (he'll swing his weapon), then repeat. Sometimes he'll still charge at you but with this method it's pretty simple.
The weird glitching at the top of the screen at the very start of the film crawl was jarring. The soundtrack in this game is legendary. I'm in the minority that likes the American soundtrack better. The Japanese soundtrack, while quite similar, uses different instruments which are fun, but I'm partial to the US one. 6:18 No damage run compromised! 20:47 I've never even heard of that trick before! I have done a Trevor-only run before, but not one on Hard Mode. Also, 55:45 is probably my favorite overall stage in the game. Love the setting. And who can ignore the fun of the rising water section! As for my favorite route, probably the one that goes through the Pirate Ghost ship with Grant. All characters are fun to use but I use, in order, Grant, Sypha and Alucard in that order. 1:26:10 Also a great place for Sypha's freeze spell! 1:30:55 I always thought the screams from the skulls when they turn white were horrifying as a kid. 1:32:00 Oddly, this is the only music that doesn't appear in the sound test for the game. Great run. I think I now have to attempt hard mode!

Glad you didn't sleep on the music for the whole video. However, I would be remiss if I failed to mention the music from the Famicom version, which uses the VRC6 chip.
Awesome job as always sir! I never got very far in this game. I was always more of a Simon's quest guy. Additionally that would be why he has always been my fav Belmont. I can't wait to see your next couple classes, they should be your Master Classes in my opinion due to difficulty. 😀
Another one of my favorite NES games of all time. LOL I've always noticed that too, when you met a spirit helper, they always shook with their left hands.......
It's not a bad idea to carry a second secondary weapon like you mentioned, particularly to give yourself more versatility for some of the bosses but I typically prefer Trevor's attacks and damage so I don't go out of my way to kit Alucard with anything special (though his normal attack is great on that one iteration of the final boss like we show).

Using secondary weapons while crouching is impossible without modifying the controller which is not allowed in normal speedruns. That's why we only use it in emulators for casual play and tool-assisted speedruns. Professionals use real hardware.

Same goes to Castlevania I/IV and chronicle. Since Ps1 symphony of the night, games becomes more exploration oriented and it was fun as well
Yeah this brings a very novel spin to the franchise with the different characters, giving it a lot of different ways (and literally different paths) to play it.

Of the trilogy i never did finish 3, however i did grab the castlevania collection......might be time to see if i can finish it

Ha I love it, and that is definitely a challenge. This game is hard enough as it is, but run it enough and I could see being able to pull it off.

The climbing is arguably the most fun mechanic, though I can't pass up the opportunity to take a huge shortcut now and again via Alucard's flight.
