I played this game a lot with a buddy of mine who had it, back when we were in our early teens. It was in the mid 90s, but he happened to have the game, we both loved playing old NES games, he lived across the street and a shared love of the film was one of the things we bonded over.
Love this game. I remember saving up my lawn mowing money to buy it. Took a few weeks for me to beat. But I’m sure there a lot of secrets and tricks that I missed. Looking forward to watching this whole episode.
I used to rent games like this and loved them but never could get anywhere substantial. But they never included the manual when you rented them, and there was usually info in the manual you needed or the game didn't make sense.
@@stewiegriffin5557I rented this game so many times. Wrote down the password and restarted where I left. Eventually I finally beat it. I'm 45 and still played this game today.

I was so pumped to see this in my UA-cam news feed! This is one of my favorite NES games, and was one of the first ones I repurchased after selling most of my video game collection off in the late 2000s early 2010s. It's not a perfect game, but it is so fun and engrossing, and of course being made by Capcom, it has a phenomenal soundtrack and overall excellent presentation for an NES game.

I remember the Arcade game but didn't realize it was Willow, have to watch that movie as I missed it for some reason. Still can't wait to see how it plays.

Great to see you cover this one. I never really got super far in this game, but it's EASILY in my top five when it comes to music. Songs from this still pop into my head more than 20 years later. Only Castlevania, Mega Man 2, and a few Sunsoft games share that dubious honor...
I loved this game growing up. Took my cousin and I a good 3 years to figure it out. We had no manual or guides to go off of. Man, getting to Bavmorta without enough magic the first time was soul crushing. As an adult the only thing that bothers me now is that they spelled Saoirse's name "Sorsha". Oof...
I just want you to know: I appreciate the hard work you put into these strategy guide videos. You are THE man, keep up the stellar work. Classic games will never die!
I love this one so much that I ripped the sprites for Spriters' Resource. This is a great Action-Adventure title that has what is, for my money, quite possibly the greatest adventuring tune ever written; it starts out with a heroic feel to it, and slowly fades into a wistful notion of absorbing all the sights and sounds that pass you by on your quest. Funny story, too; I didn't see the movie until about 2004 or so, but had been playing this since it was brand new. The whole reason I watched the movie is that my significant other was a huge fan, and we'd had this long conversation about Willow, where neither knew what the other was talking about, since I hadn't realized how different the game was. Turns out I didn't care for the movie, but still love the game, so I'd definitely recommend it to anyone into top-down Action-Adventure titles.
The only reason I rented Willow back in the day is because it's got the Capcom label on it. The talk of controls or fun factor comes up in games, Capcom was one of the kings.
Definitely one of the hidden gems on the NES. Anyone who likes a good action RPG and likes old-school NES games should check it out. Thanks for the great video and stay safe out there!
Bro, I LOVE your videos! I played almost every single one you've featured (the NES ones, at least) when they first came out on the NES when I was a kid! And Willow was one that my cousin and I used to play A LOT. Thank you so much, your videos always hit me right in the nostalgia, and bring back great memories that I haven't thought about in years. The only thing I can think of to make them any better would be if you broke it down into "chapters" so I could skip right to the levels/areas that are giving me trouble, instead of having to skip around manually. Other than that, they are amazingly close to perfection! Can't wait to see a Mega Man series (especially Mega Man 3, my personal favorite along side Mega Man 2), if you ever feel so inclined to make it, lol. Again, great videos, keep up the amazing work!
Had this game as a kid. Going to watch this, then the movie again, then the new show. I love the way Willow looks in this game, it's a cool game, kind of reminds me of Lagoon.
i talked to the Zodic killer about the password system for willow and a few other games. The Zodic killer quit and said that these passwords are worse than what the Zodic killer usually does and turned himself inn. Great job Nintendo your password system helped captured a very dangerous criminal in the books and movie

I'm really glad I stuck with this game. I didn't think much of it at all when I first scooped it out of a bargain bin. But it soon became one of my fondest memories of the NES.
Awesome addition, been waiting for this one for awhile! Always so excited to see you do a new action/adventure title, definitely my favorite genre to watch on this channel!

@@SECONDQUEST on second look, they were already pushing the sprite display limit. you can tell because the fourth one that appeared only showed the bottom sprites and it would appear and disappear as the other ones got hit.
Wakka seeds let you breathe underwater. There you go, all the Blitzball players must use those and Wakka himself was named after them. It all makes sense.
One small correction about that ending segment about Capcom developing the Minish Cap, they actually worked on more than just the Minish Cap. They also made both Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages and from what I understand it was Capcom who approached Nintendo on developing these games since a lot of staff at Capcom where big fans of the Zelda series. In fact their idea was to make three Oracle games (each one representing one of the pieces of the Triforce) with the ability to transfer data between each entry to create a full story, unfortunately the third game had to be scraped due to the difficulty of developing three full games with data transfer between them.

USE SHELINDRA’S WAND! Willow is my favorite fantasy movie. The game was wildly difficult as a 10 year old. Thank you so much for shining a light on this wonderful world
This is one game I've been meaning to do go back and finally beat after all these years. It's been on my mind for a while now and now it's here on UCBVG. It must be a sign.
Willow was made by Capcom, so it wouldn't be a big stretch to think they took some sounds from other games. Still a good adventure game; Capcom mostly did a good job when it came to licensed games on the NES.
I knew this was coming, eapecially with the new series. But, youre notorious for playing gems no one knows about, and this may be one of the best zelda clones out there.
One of my all time favorite NES games. The graphics are beautiful, the music is fantastic, and the gameplay was fun. It could be a bit challenging at times, but it wasn't the most cryptic. Honestly I just need to complain about the password system.
6 minutes old? Wow, I made it for an early video!!! I got to play this, but only as a rental from my local Blockbuster.... and it had no instructions. =.= Still, I remember having fun with it. :D
Thank you for supplying some good Willow content after the new series disappointed. I had always wanted to play this game, but was never able to find it.
Yo this channel is so awesome. Thank you for being such a positive influence on the gaming community and showing how to beat difficult games in a way that doesn't bring depression and hopelessness as tends to happen in the modern era.
I have very fond memories of playing this with one of my cousins whenever I'd spend the night over there. We had no clue what we were doing, but we had a good time anyway
I've never been able to beat this game, but I have great memories of watching my grandmother play it. She was also the one who played the movie for me since I was wee. Hope you're enjoying the new show, if that's your thing!
I always liked how the homes in the starting village are doorless straw huts on the outside, but inside they have wood flooring, walls, and glass windows lol
I absolutely love this game, and I must say, this is a great introduction to your channel. For years I actually thought Willow should've continued via a Game rather than a televised series, and one thing they could've done was maybe incorporate some very loose elements from the game, like the idea of killing magic-based beings with "The Devil-Eye Sword". Also, I had no idea that a woman did the music for this game! The music in this game was stellar for the hardware, and it's sad that she's done so little (at least that I know of) since. One thing that you didn't mention was an unused bit of lore at 14:28, when the woman says that if you go into the cave, sometimes you can hear a voice inside. My brother and I always loved the implications of that..
Oh MAN WILLOW!!! I haven't played this game, I haven't even seen a playthrough, but for some reason I'm sooo interested in this game. I haven't even watched yet but I know I'm gonna love it I love you man you're awesome, thank you for WILLOW ULTIMATE GUIDE!!! BABAAYYYYY!!!
OH man I totally had a feeling you'd do this one! With the show coming out I was thinking you'd do it and I was right! Woo! This is an amazing game. The general town music is a little hard to listen to but I love this game so much.
I definitely want to play this game again. Back in the day I played it and never finished it! Thanks to this video, I can definitely try it again! Great Video!

This is one of my favorite games for NES! Also, I heard that Capcom was given a treatment script with extra lore to goof off with. The arcade version was hair pulling for me, but I beat it, hence why I have no more hair.
Nice! I feel like I missed this game completely as a kid (I actually read the novelization of the film before learning there WAS a film, then found out as an adult that there was a video game), and every time I saw some speedrun or other video on it, I would think it looked fun, but a bit too complicated for me to jump into. Maybe this video is just what I'd need!

I love this game! So many great memories playing it as a kid! I wish they would make a sequel game or something.
I never did play this, but I've always been curious about it. Looking forward to watching this guide!
The Willow arcade game is also great fun to play today as it had a shop system and hidden secrets that's much more fun to play with unlimited credits.
One of my favorite games of all time. I would love for Capcom to put this along with the arcade version in a collection for consoles.
Willow was made by Capcom, so it wouldn't be a big stretch to think they took some sounds from other games. Still a good adventure game; Capcom mostly did a good job when it came to licensed games on the NES.
This is the 1 game I was waiting for on UCBVG. Also, yesterday I saw an ad for a new Willow web series. Great timing!
So excited to watch this!!! One of my favorite NES game as a kid! excellent channel...
6 minutes old? Wow, I made it for an early video!!!
I got to play this, but only as a rental from my local Blockbuster.... and it had no instructions. =.= Still, I remember having fun with it. :D
34:12 - That Phat Gus (Mark Rober squirrel obstacle course) reference caught me completely off guard. Well played, sir.
My favorite nes game based on a movie. Thank you so much for doing this game. God I missed this game
Thank you for supplying some good Willow content after the new series disappointed. I had always wanted to play this game, but was never able to find it.
@Nicholas Time And yet you're the one name-calling.
@Nicholas Time Two episodes, but fair enough; it has disappointed me so far.
Hey man, thanks for the video, I've checked everyday for the last week, please dont stop
Thanks for this! I grinded for days and then stopped for whatever reason. Thanks for bringing closure to a lot of my childhood Nintendo experiences!
Never knew this was on the nes. Only played the arcade version which to this is a nightmare to beat.
Listening to the music and sound effects, all I hear is Strider (NES). But I am guessing its because its Capcom.
this review was infinitely more enjoyable than the new Willow show
Yo this channel is so awesome. Thank you for being such a positive influence on the gaming community and showing how to beat difficult games in a way that doesn't bring depression and hopelessness as tends to happen in the modern era.
dude, you always do the coolest games! loved this game as a kid but it was way too challenging as a wee lad lol
I have very fond memories of playing this with one of my cousins whenever I'd spend the night over there. We had no clue what we were doing, but we had a good time anyway
A game that I loved as a kid but could never beat. This video gave me such satisfaction. Thank you good sir
I've never been able to beat this game, but I have great memories of watching my grandmother play it. She was also the one who played the movie for me since I was wee. Hope you're enjoying the new show, if that's your thing!
I look forward to your videos every week! Amazing content! Any chance we can get an Earthbound playthrough! Or a community vote? =)
I always liked how the homes in the starting village are doorless straw huts on the outside, but inside they have wood flooring, walls, and glass windows lol
Lighter colors to make it look bigger 😂
This video has the only reference to the Jackalope I've heard in nearly 3 decades. Obscure, but still classic. Bravo!
I literally *just* bought this game right before I heard about the new show. So glad to see this video come up before I tried playing!
Alllllriiiiiiiight! Been looking forward to this! Hope you hit 100k subscribers soon!
Ah.. i love this channel, finally another video. You make a great video game talking background voice while working overtime.
Man I consider myself a Nintendo Master(jokingly) nah I I am very very well versed in gaming since 1989 and I never knew there was a Willow game...Man I loved the movie as a kid and definitely would of played the game ...Great GEM YCBV 💪💯
This is one of my favorite games for NES! Also, I heard that Capcom was given a treatment script with extra lore to goof off with. The arcade version was hair pulling for me, but I beat it, hence why I have no more hair.
My mother rented me a nes for a weekend when I was about 7, willow came with the rental. My weekend was awesome!
This game is one of my first Jrpgs and it was hard as hell
The game over screen scared me as a child💖💞🥰
One of my top 10 games. I'm really happy to see you cover Willow.
Thanks to this guide I was not only been able to, finally, completed the game but I was also been able to get all the achievements for Retroarch!
