If this works out economically for NIO, it could be an absolute game changer, bigger than the Tesla superchargers.
Imagine every argument being made against the use comfort of electric vehicles. Every response to them is that battery swap can solve it.
It's more comfortable than refuelling your car with smelly and toxic fluids, and it's faster and more comfortable than rapid charging.
It also solves the claimed problem about battery degradation and being 'stuck' with a certain battery technology while others emerge.
Swap stations don't actually need the same insanely powerful grid connections large fast-charging parks do, as the batteries can be charged at a slower pace.
They can also help balance the grid.
Again, IF they can make this work for them and customers, it might be a huge factor in the breakthrough of EVs for every use case.

Battery swap is the sole reason I initially invested in Nio. The functionality enables a completely different business model. Turns out they make damn good looking cars too.
Then I would get out of Nio ASAP. When Tesla introduces their V4 superchargers swap stations are dead.

EV battery technology has improved so much that my Cordless Drills Phobia is slowly diminishing. I'm all for NIO battery swap , getting a NIO without committing to a dinosaur battery is a priority.Prefers Blade / LFP /M3P ! Another issue they have to address is Winter road conditions like Canada makes a 'integrated car wash' a pre requisite to swap stations!

Nice cars but the BAAS concept with subscription will only be useful if you live close to a swapping station. What about smaller cities - will there be a swapping station in Maastricht for example?

Battery swap is a great idea ! I just wonder what will happen if in the next five years the average charging time improves with batteries and falls to 10 minutes or below? The difference with a swap will be tiny ... The deployment of these stations will be so expensive for just a minor improvement. Is it worth it ?
Fast charging stations are even more costly to built than NIO swap stations. Just check out Tesla V3 charging station or Audi's, you will see they need way more batteries as power banks. You may wonder why charging stations need battery banks...Another advantage of swap station is its smaller footprint (land use) than a charging station with equivalent capacity, which is another cost benefit.
@@JimyLawrence I would kind of doubt that ;) you can't compare a one car swap station with a 10 car charging station ;)

@@MrTibast75 I think it's more important to think about the battery degradation aspect. A lot of tesla owners are finding out that their $20,000 battery doesnt work anymore and now they either need to fork up the cash for a new one or just buy a new car. With the battery swap, you never have to worry about that. Also, these fast chargers will just wear out their batteries even more.
It's also awesome to be able to upgrade temporary for a holiday or towing something, nice to have the flexibility.
Battery swap is getting many positive and opposing comments, don’t forget NIO can charge just like all other EVs, swap is nit the only way. I wish US politician will stop sanctioning China and give us a chance to import NIO, BYD, ORA, Xpeng, etc. and not just the overpriced Tesla.
