It's no secret that cars with the B58 engine are muted somewhat, including the M140, M240, M340 and of course the Toyota Supra. But how can you free up some of that delicious inline 6 noise? By removing silencers of course...
I took my car on a journey over to BAF Motorsport in Wakefield to release some more noise. We'd decided upon a double resonator delete and they sit along the mid-pipe. A bit of a difficult job just to replace them as one of the pipes is oval shaped as opposed to circular.

Sounds very very close to my mate’s 340i with the factory M performance exhaust, especially at cold start. It should have sounded like this coming out the factory.
Definitely, they have such nice sounding engines!
My 540i is going in for a dual resonator delete tomorrow! Also got a quad pipe Backbox which I may fit depending if it’s gonna be full hooligan mode!
Looking forward to it mate?
Just The Driven yeah,I had the aftermarket backbox on with the resonators in place and it wasn’t loud enough lol. Just trying to figure out if my car has a PPF for emissions etc
What year is it?
Just The Driven 67 reg
I'm sure PPFs were 2018 onwards, worth a Google though!
Enjoyed the video mate. I had the Remus axle-back fitted on my M140 during the last lockdown and it gave the cold start an improved sound. What surprised me is how it improved the performance of the car, night and day difference. 👍✌️
I've had the double res deleted for a lil while now,but i'm honestly thinking to put the secondary res back in and just get the m performance back box.I'm not so much a fan of all the constantly popping when you let off the throttle.I'd much rather loud upshift bangs and better downshifts
Great video mate, this is what I want to do to mine but I’m in Scotland and trying to find someone to do a decent job ain’t easy.
Looking forward to seeing what you do next, subscribed 👍
Thanks champ. Are there no reputable fabrication shops around your way?
JJB thanks for the reply I’ve been phoning around and getting some crazy prices but I’ll persevere
Go to ecotune in hillington exhaust place there
I think i want one of these will look for one next February when i only have 1 year finance left on my car. Thing is trying to find these cars that are well equipped with options are hard to come by!
Do it mate 👍 id start looking before the end of the year personally, even as early as September as a lot of people will be trading in used cars for the new registrations in Sept. Usually a buyer's market for a month or so afterwards as there's a bunch of cars coming to the market
Sounds nice. I fancy having a double resonator delete done to my M240i, are there any places you can recommend Manchester way?
SK Garage.
Not too loud for neighbors? Also does the exhaust flap make a difference when in conform and in sport. I felt on stock it did nothing lol. thanks for posting the video!
The cold start is a little noisy but it calms down relatively quickly
No way this is my car just seen the reg 😱looks abit different now though
Just seen this, crazy how small the world is now
Sounds so good
Thank you brother 🙌
How much was this, I’m from Leeds and want my m140 doing too. Found the same everyone wants to do a full mid pipe or wants to chuck some 3 inch in not the proper 80mm. Liked that he actually took the exhaust off and did it properly too 👍
£120 fitted mate. Get in touch with BAF Motorsport I'm sure he'll be able to sort you out. Tell him I sent you!
JJB nice one mate cheers, will do 👍
Danny Tate Did you get this done in the end Danny? I’m from Leeds too and thinking of getting mine done? Just wondered what your thoughts were on it if you’d gone ahead? Cheers Ian
Tommo IT I did have it done yes, I would definitely recommend having it done. The sound is fantastic, really gives the car a bit more drama. Cold start is a bit too loud to be honest but once driving there is zero drone, you only really know anything has been done when you step on it or when you have it in sport/traction mode and get loud cracks in between gear changes and pops on overrun.
I did use the company in the video and got the feeling they didn’t really want that type of work, it all felt very rushed while they were doing it although the job was done to a decent standard in the end after I had words about not rushing it and just making sure it was right. However they did adjust my exhaust as part of it to make sure the tips were centralised in the bumper as mine were off from factory.
@@onetyrefire9722 In your opinion is it much louder than stock? In sports mode, not just the cracks and pops the actual exhaust noise?
So much better than the gt86 👌
Thank you 👍
Great vid again. Just loose the ciggy when driving, makes it look unprofessional.
I didn't expect to film at that point! I was just in awe of the sound 😬
Thanks for the comment!
Na I didn't mean to sound like a knob, just noticed it straight away u could tell u were chilling
Just The Driven Does drink more fuel due to 2 res deleted, or it exactly the same efficient as stock exhaust?
No extra drinking 😌 MPG stays the same
My worry is droning, are you defo sure there is no drone when in comfort, at all speeds?
You can hear the car ever so slightly but it's not droning/resonance, it's just the sound. No stupid vibrations or cabin shake at any speeds. Once the valves are closed it quietens down loads, even in sports mode it doesn't drone, you just hear the sound more.
Is this process reversible? Did you hold on to your old resonator in case it ever needed to go back on?
You can clamp them in place I imagine in order to keep it reversible but you'll still need to cut it unless you were to replace the entire centre section
Did you experience any droning at different rpm’s with this mod?
No droning at all at motorways
Hiya, when you say £120 fitted, is that the all in cost? Who sourced the replacement exhaust pieces?
All in cost yes & Chris @ BAF has material to make replacements
Love the noise mate was going to do mine but have been told removing box nearest to engine (PPF/GPF) filter will ruin emissions and so fail MOT? Any ideas with your 140i? Does sound sweet! Cheers gr8 vid.
Mine is a pre GPF model so it doesn't have them buddy. You can remove the resonators in yours but it won't be as loud, or you could get a GPF/PPF back exhaust that could also work
@@JXLPerformance thanks for reply mate 😁
Hi mate is that res delete with the M Performance exhaust?
This is not an MPerf Exhaust 👍🏼
Is this road legal and will still pass an MOT?
Yes, 100%
No ECU adjusts needed? Do you think it sounds louder than just fitted with the M Performance exhaust? Thanks for the video!!
No ECU adjustments are needed 😁 - id say it's 20/30 percent louder than a MPE
How loud is it compared to stock? I want a decent increase in volume so i can hear it over my music haha.
If you're in comfort you can barely tell, in sports mode it's more throaty and louder, not too loud though! I have my music loud most of the time and I can hear it
@@JXLPerformance so its not much louder in sports mode than stock? Im looking for a large increase in noise thats all haha, it would be nice to hear it well over music with the windows down
@@carmad1287 It is louder in sport yes, the pops and crackles and much louder, it tends to be louder in sport as it holds on to the gears longer, in comfort it's relatively quiet
@@JXLPerformance Lets say im just accelerating relatively steady in sports mode, with the windows down is it much more noticeable than stock?
In that sense it's not drastically louder, you'll notice a difference but it's not the same level as a backbox delete/decat
Is a single res delete not worth it?
Its worth it if you're wanting a slight increase in noise, a middle ground between this and stock 👍
@@JXLPerformance 20 years ago I'd have done the lot, but at nearly 50 just a little quieter might be me. Plus I think my neighbours would kill me 😂👍
🤣 no harm in doing it! The cold start is quite a bit louder with both of them out so one may the best route if you don't plan on fighting your neighbours 😛
Did you end up doing this mate? Planning on a single res delete for my 840i but not sure if it would just be best to remove both. Having said that, I am looking for a nice middle ground.
What about with a downpipe?
That's one of the next things for me 😁
JJB Awesome!!! From argentina 👍🏻
very smart. rev the engine hard from cold, thick as pig shit.
Hardly revving hard, and it wasnt for long, plus these engines aren't made of chocolate but thanks for your concern
You waffle more than the annoying ads that pop up during the video
Thanks Malcolm
Great vid, just get to the point, we all know you want subscribers 😎
