Welcome back to another DRAGON QUEST video everyone! Today we take a look at concreted's impressive DQIV patch. Dragon Quest IV on the DS was an amazing game, but it had one issue. No party chat!!! It took years for someone to figure out how to patch it back in the game and its finally here! Hope you enjoy. - Ігри
They don't chat in my gaming environment. You got the patch, so I think you are more familiar with it than the Japanese.
By the way, In old Japan, it was thought that foxes disguised themselves as humans and made fun of people. Mr. Torneko encounters it in Chapter 3, they are foxes. Even in modern Japan, there are fox statues at shrines.
Thank you for letting many people know about Dragon Quest. I was born in Japan, and Dragon Quest was always close to me.
I'm glad that people are enjoying it in other countries as well. You are very detailed. Maybe it's more detailed than Japanese people.
Right now, I'm playing the 11th "DRAGON QUEST XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age" in Japanese. I bought it at Steam.

I'm gonna admit I just got the mobile version of dq4 a week ago and at times in rare moments I can't understand the party members cause of their accents lol but that's what gives them so much character because of their accent I would like to see if the Hd 2d remake of dq3 make people have Australian accents since you did prove Erdrick or also called Arusu was Australian

I think the place that Erdrick was born was a fictional continent in between Australia and South America.
Anyways I'm happy that they mostly dropped the accents in text form. I'm happy to hear various accents if it's voice acted, but the moment I need to figure out that when somebody says "oot" what they are actually saying is "out" then I'd rather it just be written in proper English.

The thing with Psaro is that he technically predates Sephiroth by a few years, but his design was made *after* Sephiroth. That's why Psaro's design looks so out of place compared to the others

Even with those text box flaws, that’s still really amazing.
Tells you how much more that as good as DQ4 is, it can be ever better.
So apparently a new patch was released a couple of months ago, and from what I've played so far (up to the beginning of chapter 5), it's even better than what we had before (you can now even name the hero)

Nice. Thanks for letting me know this finally exists. I've been itching to replay this one again but I was getting frustrated with the phone version because even though you can emulate this game via Bluestacks trying to emulate finger swipes and pokes to keyboard and gamepad presses and to the mobile UI was nothing short of a nightmare. But now, with this glorious patch the phone version is essentially obsolete. The only thing better about the phone version now is the sound quality but I'll gladly trade that in for the DS UI and controls ANYDAY. I hate playing games on phones and other touch devices.
This channel has come a long way in the year and a half since I started paying attention.
Holy crap this is huge!! Now this is nearly the definitive version of IV!! (I still cross my fingers that IV PS1 can get fan translated a la V PS2)

I've encountered an annoying issue with the patched ROM -- it occurs right at the beginning of the game when you talk to frog/Eliza. When the English text is longer than what fits in the dialogue window the game does not wait for button push and scrolls the text up immediately which makes it impossible to read (only computers read that fast). I compared it with an unpatched USA version and can confirm it happens only in the patched JP version. The original USA game is fine, the text always fits the box and the game prompts for a button press when it's too long.
They should just remake the Zenithia Trilogy in 3D with voice acting. How dope would it be to here Kyle Hebert as Ragnar, or Liam O'Brien as Psaro?
Liam O’Brien or Matt Mercer as Psaro would be cool. Reason I choose Matt Mercer because Psaro is played by Daisuke Ono in Dragon Quest Heroes who is also Jotaro Kujo.

This is fantastic! I just wish that the orchestrated ost can be ripped from the phone versions and patched in to the DS version, then that version would be the best version in every way. The DS music is not bad, but it needed to use Midis to play all the music which makes the music sound crunchy and lower quality (especially whenever a horned instrument was used, which Dragon Quest uses in its music all the time) compared to what the phone versions gave us. With that said, the problem with the phone version is the touch controls. Even though they probably did the best that they could with the controls on phones, it still has some issues and there is no sort of controller support to speak of to remedy that issue. Also the higher resolution graphics on phones were nice, but an emulator can do that with the DS graphics.
Unfortunately, that's probably impossible. Like most DS games, Dragon Quest IV uses a sequenced music format. You can't just convert streamed music to that.
@@kilicool64 Yeah, sadly the only true way to get the definitive edition of DQ 4-6 would be modern console and PC remasters of those games. I doubt that something like that is even in the planning stages though.
I might do this for my playthrough! But I also wonder if it's worth going through the trouble of patching it, when I could just play the mobile version...

Yeah nothing beats zenithian trilogy party chat. In DQV they even react to a guy vomiting off of a boat
Hot on having played the two Heroes games, a voiced-over DQ IV remake would definitely blow most of the other games out of the water. They really nailed all characters in those.

Man I started a playthrough of this game a week ago I wish I knew this was coming cause I'm already half way through the game. I'm guessing if I ripped my save and tried to play it on this version it wouldn't work though.

Having played the Android version of DQ4 as my first DQ game, I have to say that the translation can be a little rough at some parts.

How much party chat does DQ4 have compared to the other 2 DS remakes? Is it like 5 where there’s a ton of it or is it like 6 where I gotta ask myself why did I even bother clicking the B button?

I just came here to say I'd buy a whole new console if need be for a new dqm game. I still play dqmj (preferred 1 to 2, and computer I was running 3 on died, and it's a flawed pain)

Just curious but has anyone else tried this on real hardware? I tried it last week on my DSi XL off the sd card using Twilight Menu but saw right away there were visual glitches with the title screen 3D cutscene. Didn't notice anything else in the 20mins I played but just curious if anyone else ran into this. I normally only play on real carts though and I softmodded my DS just to try this hack so I am newer to it if glitches are normal with this method.

@@DarkStarPL Good to know! Hopefully a solution aside from r4's and twilight menu will come around that will fix the compatability issues that pop up.
I did not have any issues personally on my R4 Gold with the opening cut-scene. I am having issues getting the English patch to work in general though. Even using the AR code on Desmume I'm still getting %'s and Japanese text. After inputting my name the game crashed. I more than likely screwed up the process so I'm hoping sackchief makes a tutorial so I can see exactly how to do it.

Can u please make a tutorial for this? i've beggined the game with 2 DS with the japanese and the english version to translate just the party chat. i've a bit experience in tweaking and i've been trying to patch it but i failed.

@@sackchief It would be incredibly helpful if you did. I tried to follow the tutorial on github but so far my results have bore little fruit. I'm trying to get the patch working on my R4 cart but so far even after testing with emulators on my PC it still only comes out as % and japanese. So I hope for the sake of those of us who are confused on how to get this working you could please make a tutorial on how to properly patch party chat back into Dragon Quest IV. If you're reading this, Thank you for doing so! I've been enjoying your content as I've started getting into Dragon Quest!

I felt so sad that they'd cut out the party chat from the English version but nice to see you can cheat it in. In the original text, Kiryl's feelings towards Alena are really pure and devoted, but I understand that you don't like it anyway when it's about your girl. I mean, I really want to kill Angelo when he tries to get hands on MY JESSICA XD.

At least every Dragon Quest translation from Dragon Quest V onward had party chat implemented.
@@RegalPixelKing Yeah. That's after fans complained about 4 not having it. Basically they got caught with their pants down because they were trying to save money. If fans hadn't bitched about it or said anything 5 and 6 probably would not have had party chat, either...
