Cold water builds your cold resistance and your hands ability to warm themselves, additionally it builds the strength of your blood vessels which in turn gives you a better ability to circulate warm blood in your hands.

I present the cold water method that are being used in the wim hof method online course to adapt feet and hands to cold environment. 1. Fill a bucket with 4-10 L of water, insert 3-4,5 L of ice in any form. 2. Measure temperature, temperature should be 0-10 degree Celsius. Closer to 0 degree Celsius is recommended. 3. Put your feet in the water, take them out when the sharp intense pain is gone. If it's not gone before 8 minutes take them out. 4. Repeat 3 but put your hands in the bucket. Measure the time that you expose your feet and hands, it's a scientific way to measure your progress. PS. If you have any cardio or cardiovascular disease you should use these methods carefully since
That's not correct. The first thing you're taught in the online method. Is to fill a bowl with water, than ice. Put your hands (or feet) in, one at a time. For two minutes. Do one, than the other. He does not say to do feet only that it helps feet too. For the homework he says to do hands. Two minutes, in a bowl with water and ice. That's how you start. I'm a premium member on his site and going through the course.
I had heel bursitis for almost a year. I tried everything to get rid of it, nothing helped, or seemed to calm the inflamation. I realized that my feet were constantly cold. This technique changed my core temperature in my feet and literally cured my bursitis in about 2 weeks. Thank you so much Wim. I thought i was doomed and had to undergo an operation.

It really helps! I had cold hands all the time it was pretty annoying but the cold showers and going outside in the winter without gloves. Using icebath it really helped. It took some months for me though my circulation was terrible. But after a while i forgot i even ever had cold hands because it was gone
So basically you just continued doing the cold showers and cold baths? I work nights and i work outside in the winter also and its freezing half the time. I cant feel my hands in some weather. The cold baths and showers have not helped my hands at all
Mmmh I'm taking cold showers and cold bath since 1 year now, and haven't noticed any difference with my hands, like they can still get pretty cold. Imo that hand thing isn't as proved as the cold shower
@@mattystewart8 Try ice/cold water baths for just your hands. If you do your whole body, blood will flow away from the extremities to the vital organs. If you do just your hands it will flow to your hands. You should notice after a cold water bath for your hands that your hands are red and blood is flowing to warm them up.
I’ve only been doing whm for a couple weeks and when I recently went to Juneau Alaska and continued breathing and cold showers, the cold exposure outside was totally bearable. Water was typically 35°, raining constantly, chilly. I was actually warm and walked around in a t shirt outside sweating, in the rain and cold. And while my hands got cold and I could move them fast to text or take pictures, they didn’t hurt and I didn’t feel the need to keep warming them in the jacket or whatever.
I could not keep either hand in for 2 min. today, on my first try. So I did 30 seconds for each, one after the other. And then another 30 seconds. So, clearly I needed this challenge and I'll continue to do it. And will start with my feet as well.
This works. I had this problem as a jr field engineer in oil and gas. -70 celsius was freezing my hands. An old cementer told me that first snow of the year, go outside and plunge your hands into the snow until they turn red. Then let them warm in the air on their own. Solved a 20 year problem of cold hands and the effect has lasted for 20 years.
Some people are commenting that they don't get the answer. What I got was that you practice placing the extremities in ice water, and that way you're making your extremities accustomed to it, and if you follow the instructions of the method, your blood vessels will eventually not constrict as much in the cold so your hands/feet won't feel painful and stiff 🤷🏻♀️

Lots of people have commented that he doesn't actually answer the question, but I think the answer is hidden in the first 7 seconds. If the person next to you is singing 'Be-bop-a-loo-la' in the most irritating way, then you won't give a damn about your hands anymore. Sorted!

I believe I have Raynauds syndrome (or as I call it dead hands) which in cold weather I get quite badly. My fingers on my right hand go completely white. If you have seen a dead body, well its like that. It usually happens if I go out and the temperature suddenly drops, especially if I'm holding something like keys or shopping. Is this something you would recommend that could help me overcome this happening?
I am into whm for 1 week so far. I want to cure this really, it hurts sometimes in the winter.. but this year it was much better than the last one because i went in plant based whole food diet and i am sure whm will help

I already knew about wim hof and tried to overcome the pain but couldn't. I had to quit three months later. Now I really want to try this method and see what happens.

I love you Wim Hof. My direct experience: the exercise of submerging one hand into a bucket of fridge cold chilly water for 1-3 minutes is akin to a tiny methamphetamine hit. I argue if one doesnt feel inspired to do a cold shower, cool, do the hand in ice water activity. The first 20-45 seconds will be the worst pain Earth can deliver. If you press pass this point with samurai determination, after 90 seconds the pain vanishes. The reason the pain vanishes is n incorrect statement: your body delivers a massive doping of self-manufactured painkillers/adrenaline to survive the cold. When people say your hand goes numb this in a miseducated assumption- you just get a dose of painkillers. Im no expert at all. I’ve done this 2 days ago and it was worst pain ever for the full 2 minutes. Now using cooled water without ice. Also very painful but more bearable. Hopefully my body will adapt to this so I can try with ice again.

i'v been doing wim hof method for a month now, its great, unfortunately my left hand finger jionts has swollen up & is painfull to grab things... any help before i throw in the towel & go to the doctor wod be appreciated :)
I'd suggest, stip doing the hands in ice until the swelling goes down to a reasonably level, then start again, figure out the frequency that maintains a mild swelling/pain and see if the swelling goes down after a while, and/or you are able to increase the frequency. I've found that any painful reactions form wim hoff seem to be "healing crises" that get better with continued practice. Fro example one of my thumb joints has had a painful hard nodule on it for a couple of years, frost couple of times with ice water it got more painful and hurt to use the thumb but it cleared up. Hasn't got rid of it either though, I'll see how it goes in the future maybe will help it heal. But if your hands don't adapt at all or get worse after a couple of weeks there's probably something else going on that means you need to ease off even more.
The first winter I was a logger it was always -20F and struggled with excruciating cold feet. Now I don't even think about it, they acclimated, probably because of this.
I have not done cold plunge yet, not because I'm hesitant, it's just more about logistics, but I am doing cold showers alternate days. Hands and feet are always cold, cold showers or not. Is cold therapy contra-indicated for Raynaud's (there are 3 varying degrees of this condition: phenomena; syndrome; and disease). I have been diagnosed with it as a disease, but I do not hold a lot of weight to diagnosis'. however I have had frost bite on my fingers due to it, and I often wear indoor IR gloves. Could cold therapy eventually reverse this autoimmune condition, or is it more less a contraindication to cold therapy? Thank you.
I am preparing for the submerge in ice water and would do it straight away but have Raynauds which seems to be a circulation condition where in cold weather the fingers go very white and then can be purple quite alarmingly and if the body can't be warmed up it can be difficult to get out of it but still will do the ice water soon. In my 30's and 40's I could control it but getting very difficult now. Anybody else have the same?
What about for people with Raynaud’s syndrome. Cold hands are not just cold hands for me, it’s such a painful and frightening experience. Is there anyone who has worked with this?
I am sorry to hear that. It all should come from your adrenal gland that are in exhaustion. Basically the blood doesn't flow in the whole body (especially extremities) because your heart doesn't have enough power from the adrenal gland. stop the refined sugar if you do and have a loads of fruits and the most important get some rest (sleeps, sun, vegetable juice are very regenerative) hang in there
stranger thing that I get often when doing the breathing exercise is that my whole body is boiling at some point and my fingers get pretty stiff, hard to move them. Couple of stages later in the retention phase I feel almost like detaching from my body. Not sure if thats good, feels at least okay, strangest thing about it is that it gives absolutely no pain when this happens
Would I get any increase in benefits if I keep hands/feet in ice water for longer than 2 minutes, or would I just be wasting my time? Thanks in advance, for any replies👍🙂
I have to say that cold baths are doing wonders for me, even though I have carpian tunnel due to a really stiff neck and shoulders/tendinitis it helps A LOT. I think I have tinnitus, any suggestions? it's like a pumpin sensation. it's like a buzz . Also we don't use any heater anymore ;)
Tinnitus can have a variety of causes, so it could be good to go to a doctor to see if it might be treatable. Mine is apparently not, but I have been living with it for a few years now and I have gotten used to it (rather quickly, fortunately). :)
I've been doing WHM for 3 weeks now, but my hands and feet are always cold no matter what I do... though it may have something to do with the fact that I am skinny and live in Canada.:)
Why would that matter? Being skinny doesn't mean you have to be cold, the body is capable of heating itself. I don't know if you've experienced this but other skinny people in cold climates like in Canada have where after touching snow or holding a snowball, the hands will all of a sudden burn up and become awfully hot.
You should be used to it more than other when ur from canada no? :p but just put ur hands in water with icecubes for 2 minutes and when u take them out swing them around to force blood back in for better bloodflow it thats how simple it is. Do that every day or if you notice you have cold hands.. The difference in surrounding temperature alone will make them feel warm after hehe
Hi guys, if the closure of circulatory system at the extremities are a physiologycal function of the body, wouldn't it be counterproductive or harmfull to train our body not to react the way it evolved to? Ps. I love wim hof method and I am starting to study and practice it (despite not having cold weather or cold water where I live)
If blood is cut off by ice water baths, then you will have no protection from gangreen if your hands get very cold. I assume this training must increase blood to hands when they are exposed to extreme cold, which is why it's possible to avoid gangreen without gloves even mountain climbing.
People who did Fundamentals course, does it teach how to improve my health without cold showers or cold weather exposure? (I just have mild cold in less than 3 months of the year. Now, the water is warm right from the tap)
Yes good question, I have Raynauds for a very long time but only came since I moved to Australia, a warm country for god sake previously from Scotland. But I would like to know if you know your blood group? as I am trying to find out if it's mostly Rh negitives that get this condition. Hope this is helpful to us both, Cheers
My hands and arms get pins and needles, which get more intense the longer I stay in my ice bath. It goes away afterward but sometimes lingers for a while, is this normal.
@@observantgeezer3292 experience, i dont know what the science says but i think its because the hands and limbs are like sacrificable parts of the body but the core and head are important so in cold they cut off at minimum the blood at the limbs for the core to keep its temperature. I think you just gotta let the body adapt to it
Hi Wim, I had a question that might not be as mainstream, but do your hands and or feet get physically cold or do they stay warm. This does not refer to the feeling but in the way that if you would measure the temperature if they get cold according to the thermometer. Since in my case I my hands get physically cold almost always especially when I use my mind strongly. Also when I sport like when I am running a long distance or faster than physically supposed (in both cases using my mind to override my body) my body gets physically seen quite cold. I myself don't have problems with it(except when you need to do things like opening a zipper of bottle etc.) but still.
Man, I attempted the cold shower this morning and I couldn’t get past my hands! Lol maybe I need to try this 1st and then attempt the cold shower again. 🥶
MJWShow well one of the things I reallllllly dislike in life is being cold. I just couldn’t seem to get past the whole idea. I don’t think cold therapy is something I’m gonna be doing. Good thing there are a million ways to take care of the human body, I can’t handle the cold. 🤷🏼♀️✌🏼🦋
Hola me gustaría saber si lo puedo hacer todos los días o día por medio lo agradecería q lo estoy haciendo y tengo mis pies 8 minutos y después meto mis manos y pies con dos rondas de 5 minutos
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but if you have raynauds syndrome I highly doubt there's a cure, if I have a cold bath or shower I try to avoid getting my hands and feet wet as much as possible, and they still go white. I'm not saying don't keep trying but be cautious, you'd feel silly if you got so obsessed that you got frost bite, then gangrene, then an amputation :-/
After taking a could bath i feel strong and vital directly afterwards but weakend a few hours later and once i got sick the next day. What am i doing wrong any experiences?
Ismir Eghal your body is just having a hard time equalizing. Take a hot shower immediately afterwards to warm up (don't forget to end on cold again though)
You also need to take it slow.. At first you end your bath with cold water or at least colder than you are used to e.g. where it feels just warm or neutral and a bit lower than that. Then you start increasing the time under cold water day by day...
Ive been doing pretty cold showers for the past two months and have benefited much from the results. However, the first time i did the method in a cold river about a month ago, my hands/ fingers were numb for some time afterwards. I dont think this was a good thing because i had a lack of sensitivity in a couple of my fingers for the next month (its mostly come back, i think). Im not sure why exactly this happed, or how to avoid it in the future, but i think a major factor might be because the water flow was pretty strong so i had to put a decent amont of pressure on my fingers against the rocks below me to keep me from getting caught in the current. I hope this is the main factor so i can continue to do cold river baths, but im afraid to do it again in a slower current in the case that that would still cause damage. Anybody with similar experiences or advice? Please respond if so.

You simply fill a container with ice water and keep your hands in it for 5 minutes. Set a timer for 5 minutes and put your hands in the ice water. Do this daily. That's it. Don't leave your hands in for more than 8 minutes because that risks frostbite. You can also do this with your feet.
Michael Harbach Hi, and thanks for the info. Question: Do you ice swim? Has this method made you not experience that burning sensation, and the numbness that sets in after 3-4 minutes?

I am preparing for the submerge in ice water and would do it straight away but have Raynauds which seems to be a circulation condition where in cold weather the fingers go very white and then can be purple quite alarmingly and if the body can't be warmed up it can be difficult to get out of it but still will do the ice water soon. In my 30's and 40's I could control it but getting very difficult now. Anybody else have the same?
Thank you! You are the best!
What about for people with Raynaud’s syndrome. Cold hands are not just cold hands for me, it’s such a painful and frightening experience. Is there anyone who has worked with this?
I am sorry to hear that. It all should come from your adrenal gland that are in exhaustion. Basically the blood doesn't flow in the whole body (especially extremities) because your heart doesn't have enough power from the adrenal gland. stop the refined sugar if you do and have a loads of fruits and the most important get some rest (sleeps, sun, vegetable juice are very regenerative) hang in there
Is this safe for people with Raynaulds Disease? Anyone? Thanks
stranger thing that I get often when doing the breathing exercise is that my whole body is boiling at some point and my fingers get pretty stiff, hard to move them. Couple of stages later in the retention phase I feel almost like detaching from my body. Not sure if thats good, feels at least okay, strangest thing about it is that it gives absolutely no pain when this happens
just get use to it, got it
Man...i feel even more cold after this..i love warm watering say about 50C
Thank you wim
Is it safe when you suffer from Raynaud's disease ?
Commercially very clever to direct to the fundamentals course but for me it's a non-starter.
wtf is a pumpkin sensation?
He meant "Pumping"@@Postermaestro
thx for clarifying, I've been quite puzzled by this ever since@@NyneT9
My lips and chin went purple in the cold shower this morning, still feel good!!
I recommend ICEHOF cold hot Gloves
What if you have arthritis in your hands and fingers ? Is the cold water beneficial ?
I figured the same. Gonna give it a try for a several weeks. Can only benefit from it
no , but taking Boron trace mineral will eleviate arthritis alltogether. research it.
You didn't pay enough. Send more money and then it will work.
Keep it up.. it takes time but you're doing fantastic 👍
Ok 👌 Thanks for sharing!
where is that tutorial?
Where's your creditcard?

Does this help if you get Reynolds in your feet and hands?
Wim good morning..I have this question. In the morning should I do the breathing first and then the cold shower or vice versa..or different times
Wim how to treat cold feet due to diabetes
thank you wim hof
People who did Fundamentals course, does it teach how to improve my health without cold showers or cold weather exposure? (I just have mild cold in less than 3 months of the year. Now, the water is warm right from the tap)
Almost every exercise involves cold water.
Is this good for arthritis???
search about Boron trace mineral. that cures it ; )
Great! and now would you explain?!?
ive got raynauds so i really need some tips

هل جربت الطريقة؟
best answer is briefly sounds from Wim put your hands in cold water.
what's the safe amount of time to put in your hands in ice water
Before they get black and you can't feel them anymore
So... Practice makes perfect??
Spirited Aloena {edit} perfect practice makes perfect! Just my 2 cents
What about if you have Raynauds?
Yes good question, I have Raynauds for a very long time but only came since I moved to Australia, a warm country for god sake previously from Scotland. But I would like to know if you know your blood group? as I am trying to find out if it's mostly Rh negitives that get this condition. Hope this is helpful to us both, Cheers
My hands and arms get pins and needles, which get more intense the longer I stay in my ice bath. It goes away afterward but sometimes lingers for a while, is this normal.
Hand its normal but arms idk,PS after re reading yes it is normal
@@mh-qv5tv Nice, thanks for reply, where did you get this info, or are you speaking from experience?
@@observantgeezer3292 experience, i dont know what the science says but i think its because the hands and limbs are like sacrificable parts of the body but the core and head are important so in cold they cut off at minimum the blood at the limbs for the core to keep its temperature. I think you just gotta let the body adapt to it
@@mh-qv5tv Thanks, gonna have to just suck it up and deal with it.

Pretty much answered the question to “why do my hands get cold?”
Please translation, excellent videos, thank you very much.
Hi Wim, I had a question that might not be as mainstream,
but do your hands and or feet get physically cold or do they stay warm.
That lady singing is feelin it.
obnoxious
I have cold feet, need I do the same thing with my feet?
Alexandre Sena absolutely!
He had me at “How to”
Man, I attempted the cold shower this morning and I couldn’t get past my hands! Lol maybe I need to try this 1st and then attempt the cold shower again. 🥶
How are you getting on after 4 months. I can do cold showers but not ice cold. Cold enough. Struggling to get there with ice cold still.
MJWShow well one of the things I reallllllly dislike in life is being cold. I just couldn’t seem to get past the whole idea. I don’t think cold therapy is something I’m gonna be doing. Good thing there are a million ways to take care of the human body, I can’t handle the cold.
🤷🏼♀️✌🏼🦋
SHOCK THE BODY!!!!
HOORAH ;^) !
Is it normal my fingers always instantly tingling like hell when I go in ice water ?
French translation for all your programs would be fantastic ;) ! (When it will be ?)
Ge ne sepa 😂
Does not work for me. My hands go from cold to painful to white and numb. I never get that warming sensation.
Initially the same here. You have to artificially warm them to kick start. Also it helps if the rest of your body is not cold.
Sixsoul that makes perfect sense!thank you very much sixsoul can't wait to try it out :)
Hey. Did you get all the sensitivity back? How long were you in the water for?
Has feeling come back? I just had the same thing happen and wonder if my fingertips will go back to feeling Normal soon
@Markus Rein I water fasted 5 days and even worked the day job. Only had hunger growls a few times. Much easier if you're adapted to keto diet.
Who made the music (the composer) for this video?
I'm thinking it might be Wim or his son themselves!
Title says how to then doesn't show you how to just sends you elsewhere
Don't bother having a youtube channel if there is no actual content on here it's a waste of time
This is how creators make a living. If you are expecting the world to give you everything for free without you giving something back a little in return then you can expect to be disappointed.
But he did show you how. If you have trouble sticking your hand in ice... *then stick your hand in ice more regularly* .
He even gave you a specific time: 2 minutes.
Rich Ray I think most of us would agree Wim Hof has done more than his share of free giving and he has put his hard earned money to use for the betterment of his fallow man. I for one would like to see him gain more wealth for we know he will only put it back into helping people with his work.
I can't do the hands only the feet
How about cold feet?
*How to avoid sweaty hands? 😢😭😭😭😭😭*
exercise a lot more and get your hands and feet used to a wide range of temps
Don't be fat
put them in warm water maybe!
I`ll give this video a like to cuz I still don't know the explanation for cold hands xD haha

I love the meme like irony the tumbnail has
Did I just watch a tutorial about watching another tutorial? LOL
