Tequila Ocho Blanco is one of the best tequila's out there. Everyone that I've had try it really liked it. Add in that it's affordable @ ~$40 depending on region and you just can't beat it.
The palates have spoken!!.....a deserved winner, I like to keep my little shelf stocked with a single bottle of each of these offerings close at hand, occasionally two bottles if they are close to my heart, then I just leave the 3 cases of ocho next to my couch
I did my own blind test with 3 friends.. Fortaleza Cazcanes Lalo Tequila ocho Mijenta Patron All 3 pick Fortaleza 1st Cazcanes close 2nd Lalo and tequila ocho tied for 3rd Mijenta Patron last no suprise...
Can't go wrong with Arette at 25 for a mixer. Even though it placed last in your video, the newbies need to understand that it is the best bang for your buck.
Literally watched this video while at the liquor store. I had ocho and Tesoro in my cart waiting on the winner of this lol. Ocho it is .. thanks fellas .. cheers 🥂
Not surprised that Fortaleza didn't come out on top. I was lucky enough to do some tequila sampling at El Buho in Tlaquepaque, Jalisco and the Fortaleza blanco underwhelmed me even when I knew exactly what it was. Their anejo I think is really where I think their reputation is lived up to. My favorite blanco is actually Siete Leguas right now, which I think has a great combination of pure agave and pepper
agreed ocho is just so good and especially for the price. Forta is so underwhelming given how saught after it is haha. I have at least 4 tequilas right now that are easily accessible and better than fort.
Great blind taste test. Saved a lot of time and money just buying the top 2. I got the top two Ocho & El Tesoro. Tastes exactly as they said. El Tesoro is a smoother Agave taste, so maybe best for first shot on a empty stomach. But then you want the Ocho which dominates with more intense layers of flavor.
If I can make a suggestion, I have always been curious how much "Label Engineering" goes on in Tequila, given we know the NOM on all of them. How about a drink through on a single NOM, say 1139 (El Tesoro, Villa Lobos & Tapatio). I'd love to see what your evaluation of their differences & similarities are.
I love the fact you guys know these brands well, yet you are surprised at the results. I think outside of maybe G4, I could not have guessed any of the others correctly. Well done.
Have mostly been a margarita drinker for tequila, I'm like so many that had a bad early experience with cheap shots. So I've been going through your blinds and drink throughs to put together a short list of tequilas to see if I can develop a taste for it.
Coming from someone who hated tequila before, fortaleza was given to me as a birthday shot at room temp. First time I didn't make a face and enjoy the taste of my shot. I'm sure the other high rated tequilas are just as tasty but that one changed my mind
Loved the video! I would love to see blind testing of high proof blanco. But really you guys have to try the Cazcanes line. It’s pricey but really worth it. Especially their high proof.
Ocho is awesome. Just bought it, popped it open. Lingering minty pepper citrus. Like lemon pepper or lime pepper rather. Medium coating viscosity, nice legs not huge. But oily and drying at the same time. super lingering citrus pepper still here minutes after. GET IT. Price is higher in in CO. They has g4 and tesoro too but didn't get them. Need to get to a place with arette to try next.
depends.. the first thing in choosing best Blanco is AVAILABILITY.. in some areas, like mine.. forget finding Fortoleza... or G4 .. only El Tesoro is available 65$ in my area VA. ABC stores and the Ocho is 50$ on the east coast.
I saw two bottles of Fortaleza today. Sadly they were both Winter Blend 2022. One of the stores said they do carry the blanco, it was just sold out. But it is on order and coming soon.
Hey guys, can you provide all the details from the bottle of Ocho so we can try to find? NOM 1474 right? Anything else you can provide in addition to 2021, please let me know.
@@CuriosityPublic Thank you so much! As I always say, blind is the best way to compare. I wonder if you need something to cleanse the palate between tastes? If so, you would want to do that before you start too. Anyway, love these videos!
I just picked up bottles of Tequila Ocho, El Tesoro, and G4. Currently can't get any Fortaleza, but plan to grab some Cazcanes instead and have a bottle of Codigo. Going to be a fun blind soon!
Blind tests always surprise. Especially when you think you know what you're drinking. Fortaleza, with agaves from the Valles, would technically be more earthy.
Wow! We did a similar blind and tequila ocho didnt do very well because it "punched you in the face" too much! El tesoro was our fav. We didn't have Forteleza however. Also note that cleansing palate matters. I didnt see you do that?
This was a great video! By your description I thought that the orange was G4 ! Surprise about 8. What year and field was that bottle you had? I need one
Great vid. Love me some Ocho. The BEST part is that you will get variances with their estate batches. I’ve had one year taste significantly different from another. So gooooood.
Ocho two in a row. Thanks for these. I love a good blind. I hate marketing. It keeps the prices down and wallets happy. Happy wife happy life. Time to go get some.
Guys! I will love to see yours review on this Tequilas: Caballito Cerrero agave azul 40 Terralta blanco 110 Calle 23 Criollo G4 108 Ocho Puntas Cascahuin cerro de Luz This is the 6 unicorns on Tequila world
Glad I saw this video. I drink El Tesoro and Tapatio almost daily. I was looking to get Fortaleza next but think I'm changing that to Ocho Blanco. At least one bottle. I figure Ocho would be the most Agave forward because 1st barrel batch is El Tesoro, 2nd batch/use is Tapatio, and last is Ocho. So all the juice is the same, just when it gets put in the barrel and how long it sits per brand. El Tesoro more of a bourbon drinker's brand, Tapatio, the classic family recipe, and Ocho catering to the more agave forward pallet.
Great video as always! So Dillon just shows up to drink and talk, eh? LOL make him put in some work instead of putting you guys to sleep 😉 And huge shout outs to the movie review on the podcast, that was sooo f’ing good! I’ve watched that movie so many times and to hear from a different perspective was so interesting! And to hear from all 3 perspectives with all the little bits of info you guys knew, ugh so cool! Thanks for it, more please! Do 12 and 13 too, please!
I'm a whiskey guy but this year I've decided that I need to add a couple other spirits to the shelves. Picked up Tequila Ocho Reposado tonight because I heard it was a decent brand. I had the Blanco in hand but I think my bourbon brain said "better get something more brown" and I went for the Reposado. Next week I'll add the Blanco to the shelf so I can compare the barrel impact. Tequila still not my thing but Tequila Ocho is miles better than the Patron I had tried in the past.
@@CuriosityPublic Finally getting into Tequilas because of this channel! Can't wait to see the Reposado video, and hope you can include Siete Leguas in it, as we don't get G4/Tapatio/Forteleza here!
I was under the impression that Ocho was very much like G4, profile wise. I personally can't do G4, way too mineral (Dickle-like). Unfortunately, Fortaleza is no longer on shelves around me :( But I cant still get Tapatio, so not terrible.
Not too surprised by El Tesoro. The local military liquor store has it for an unbelievably low price and I stock up every visit. It make a great mixer for a Margarita.
Great video, loved your great selection of those 5 Blancos! Obviously, other notables were necessarily excluded. Personally, I only wish you had made it a ‘Six-shooter Challenge,’ by just adding "7 Leguas.”
I had the Forteleza a couple days ago. It was delicious but I did not get that much earthiness. I have only had Ocho Reposado and haven't finished it because it tastes like it has olive brine in it to me and I don't like that. I would like to try the blanco but I'm not buying a bottle just to sample it. I've only had the G4 109 which I found astringent and unpleasant. (OK, I'm an outlier) I really tried to like it and Ocho but couldn't do it. I like El Tosoro but I've been buying Arette because for $30 it's very good and a great bargain.

Also worth noting that Tequila Ocho, though a different NOM, is from the same master distiller Carlos Camarena.
1579 is an interesting lineup due to the different combinations of well/spring/rain water used in the different brands.
100% on the Ocho, totally agree
